【答案】Dear Peter,

Good news for you!

Last time you asked me to help you collect some materials on China martial arts. Now I've found out a Chinese martial arts research magazine in the school library. But unfortunately, I failed to reach you by phone, so I'm writing this e-mail instead to inform you of the news.

As you're a big Chinese martial arts fan doing some research about it, I'm sure you need the magazine badly. After receiving the e-mail, please call me and come to get it or I can bring it to you.

You can keep this book for two weeks. If you can't finish it within the time, you must renew it.

Best wishes.

Yours,

Li Hua

【題目】 We look ahead to London’s art and exhibition openings and select the must ─ see shows.

Double science

It’s a big month for the Science Museum, with a new gallery and an exhibition opening. The Science City gallery tells the story of London between 1550 and 1800 when major scientific breakthroughs were happening across the city──from Newton’s laws of physics to the birth of microscopes allowing us to see the tiny creatures that live among us. If that isn’t enough, there’s also an exhibition on how art and science have worked closely together over the centuries and continue to do so today.

Science City 1550──1800: The Linbury Gallery at the Science Museum. Opens 12 September──13 October, free.

The Art of Innovation: From Enlightenment to Dark Matter at the Science Museum. 25 September──26 January, free but ticketed.

Are you worried yet?

We all suffer from anxiety. Artists look into this through artworks that bring to light their own anxieties or how people living with anxiety manage. The exhibition also covers what anxiety would look like if it could be visualised in light or sound──something we imagine to be impossible.

On Edge: Living in an Age of Anxiety at Science Gallery. 19 September──19 January, free.

Climbing the walls

No artist has made a bigger career out of placing sculptures of human figures all over the place. Antony Gormley, the artist behind the Angel of the North and sculptures standing all over London, takes over the Royal Academy of Arts with a blockbusting(轟動一時的) exhibition. This is the hot art ticket in town.

Antony Gormley at Royal Academy of Arts. 21 October──3 December, 18──22.

【題目】 In our daily life, many of us feel stressed more or less. Some like this pressure and work better because of it. Others are not comfortable with any stress at all; they soon become unhappy if they feel stressed. Sometimes stress can lead people to do things they wouldn’t usually do, such as overeat, smoke, drink, or use drugs. Stress, however, is a very normal part of life.

It is important to understand that stress doesn’t come from an event itself, that is, from the things that are happening in our lives. It comes from the meaning we give to what has happened. For example, a crying baby may be stressful to one person, but it may not bother another person at all; a traffic jam may be stressful to one person while another person may be able to stay calm.

We can experience stress any time we feel we don’t have control. It can come from a feeling that we can’t do anything about a situation. Basically, it is the body’s way of showing anxiety or worry.

Stress is not just caused by our mental or emotional condition. It is also influenced by how tired we are, whether we have a balanced diet with enough vitamins and minerals, whether we get enough physical exercise, and whether we can relax.

The key point of relieving the stress is that we need to find what is causing the stress in our lives. Once we have found it, we should try to change that part of our lives. If we believe that we can control stress, we can begin to control our lives. Then we can start to use stress in a positive way.

1According to the text, ________ can cause stress.

A.overeatB.smoke

C.a traffic jamD.a hard test

2The author mentions the example of a crying baby in order to ________.

A.explain that stress is everywhere

B.tell different people react to stress differently

C.help people learn that stress comes from an event

D.give the definition of stress

3What does the author suggest dealing with stress?

A.Finding the cause and making changes.

B.Controlling the emotions.

C.Having enough sleep.

D.Taking some drugs.

4From the text, we can conclude that ________.

A.if someone has stress he will do something wrong unavoidably

B.anyone can experience stress when he is out of control

C.one will feel no stress at all if he gets enough physical exercise

D.one is sure to work better because of the stress
