A multicultural person is someone who is deeply convinced that all cultures are equally good, enjoys learning the rich variety of cultures in the world, and most likely has been exposed to more than one culture in his or her lifetime.
You cannot motivate anyone, especially someone of another culture, until that person has accepted you. A multilingual salesperson can explain the advantages of a product in other languages, but a multicultural salesperson can motivate foreigners to buy it. That’s a(an) 【1】difference.
No one likes foreigners who are arrogant(自大的) about their own culture. The trouble is most people are arrogantly monocultural without being aware of it and even those who are can’t hide it. Foreigners sense monocultural arrogance at once and set up their own cultural barriers, which may effectively 【2】 any attempt by the monocultural person to motivate them.
Multiculturalism is a(an) 【3】 that has been neglected too often in hiring managers for international positions. Even if your company is not a multinational one, chances are you’re in touch with foreign customers or manufacturers. Do you have the right employee to build up the 【4】?

Most often they list the same qualities they would want for a domestic position, but with the 【6】 requirement that the new manager be fluent enough in English, German and French to cope with faxes and email. It sometimes takes me hours to persuade clients that the linguistic (語言的)abilities they see as crucial are not enough.
Of course, it’s far more difficult to 【7】 candidates multiculturalism than it is to check their language skills—but it’s also a far more important 【8】 to success. I remember a company that asked me to check out a salesman they were planning to send to Mexico. He’d studied Spanish, and had grown up in New York City—the most 【9】 diverse place in America. But when I interviewed him, he turned out to have no concept of the great pride Mexicans took in their culture, and moreover he was 【10】 about Mexican restaurants and markets being dirty and unsafe. I rejected him just as Mexican buyers would have if he’d been selected for the job.

【題目】Art museums are places where people can learn about various cultures. The increasingly popular “design museums” that are opening today, however, perform quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museums show objects that are easily found by the general public. These museums sometimes even place things like fridges and washing machines in the centre of the hall.
People have argued that design museums are often made use of as advertisements for new industrial technology. But their role is not simply a matter of sales — it's the honouring of excellently invented products. The difference between the window of a department store and the showcase(玻璃陳列柜) in a design museum is that the first tries to sell you something, while the second tells you the success of a sale.
One advantage of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Unlike the average art museum visitors, design museum visitors seldom feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-produced products work and look as they do, and how design has improved the quality of our lives.Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something beyond their understanding.
In recent years, several new design museums have opened their doors. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public’s growing interest in the field with new ideas. London's Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from Zippo lighters to electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins.The choices open to design museums seem far less strict than those to art museums, and visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around the exhibits.
【1】Showcases in design museums are different from store windows because they____.
A. show more technologically advanced products
B. help increase the sales of products
C. show why the products have sold well
D. attract more people than store windows do
【2】The author believes that most design museum visitors ____.
A. do not like mass-produced products B. are puzzled with technological exhibits
C. dislike exhibits in art museums D. know the exhibits very well
【3】The choices open to design museums ____.
A. are not as strict as those to art museums B. are not aimed at interesting the public
C. may fail to bring some pleasure to visitors D. may fail to attract more visitors
【4】What is the best title for this passage?
A. The forms of design museums. B. The exhibits of design museums.
C. The nature of design museums. D. The choices open to design museums.

【題目】A company has designed a water bottle, the Memobottle, which is ideal for the office worker’s bag, because it’s completely flat. With the same shape as a piece of paper, the Memobottle is a reusable water bottle that slides into your bag to lie next to books and laptops. The bottle, which can also be washed in a dishwasher, is designed to help reduce the number of plastic bottles in landfills(填埋).
Two creative people Jesse Leeworthy and Jonathan Byrt, both 28,designed the bottle to be convenient to carry and environmentally friendly. It is made from a durable and dishwasher-friendly“green” plastic.
Leeworthy and Byrt, from Australia, say more than 600 billion single-use bottles were sold globally last year. In America alone, studies show that around 1,500 single-use water bottle are consumed every second—only 20 percent of these are recycled. And the cost of buying more and more plastic bottles adds to— the pair say that bottled water costs approximately 1,400 times more than tap water.
“We’ve always been passionate about the environment,” said Leeworthy.“For years we have been focused on creative design that provides environmental remedy while improving social convenience. The Memobottle was designed to overcome two problems that we see in our society: our attachment to the outdoors, and our inability to fit water bottles in laptop bags.”
The bottle will be available in three different sizes— A5 which holds 750 ml,A4 which holds 1.25 litres and letter size which stores 1.25 litres. The product is seeking funding on Kickstarter and has already soared(飆升)past its primary goal of raising 8,310 ($13,500),reaching it in just 36 hours. Jonathan Byrt said, “The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive! The emails of support and interest, and social media comments have been amazing!”
The product is expected to be on the market by Christmas and will be available for global delivery.
