Sooner or later, most students are to take some form of English exami?nations. Often the more successful students are better prepared. However, sometimes students who do well have better test-taking skills. These abili?ties really have nothing'to do with understanding English better. They are skills that make taking the test easier, and therefore provide better results.
Here are some very important—and often ignored―guidelines to taking a test successfully.
Do not insist on completing each question before going to the next. This is extremely important. Remember one question raay only be worth one point! You will become nervous when you fail to find out its answer, making you lose your concentration and leading to worse results. However, answering the questions you are sur| you know the answers can make us more relaxed and confident.
Go through the test a second time working out the answers to more dif?ficult questions. Sometimes questions asked are answered in later questions asking for different things.
Usually a strong first impulse (沖動(dòng))means we know the answer and we don't really have to think about it too much, Going back to think about it usually makes you unsure and often causes a mistake. This is very common, so be very careful !
If you don't know the answer, write something. If you are answering a 4 possibility multiple choice question you will still have a 25% chance of be?ing correct!
Taking a test is as much for you as is for your teacher, so never cheat. If you cheat, you don't help yourself in the long run.
12. In the first paragraph, the writer stresses the importance of .

Children start out as natural scientists, and eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. You only have to share your children's curiosity(好奇心).
Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-olds to talk about science as a job. The children asked me "textbook questions" about teaching, salary and whether I liked my job. When I fin?ished answering, we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said, "Now that we're finished with your lists, do you have questions of your own about science?" After a long pause, a boy raised his hand, "Have you ever seen a grasshopper (蚱艋)eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomach ache. Why?" This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.
Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults often wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their "wait time" to three seconds or more, children give more logical(符合邏輯的),complete and creative answers.
Thirdly, watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a sci?ence discussion, don't jump in with "that's right" or "very good". These words work well when you encourage their good behaviour(行為).But in talking about science, quick praise can mean that discussion is over. In?stead, keep things going by saying " that's interesting" or " I've never thought of it in that way before" , or coming up with more questions or ideas.
Lastly, show but don't tell. Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a televi?sion programme. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大鏡),and they'll understand why you want them to wash hands before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates (蒸發(fā)),set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
8. According to the passage, children are natural scientists, and to raise their interest, the most important thing for adults to do is .
A. to let them see the world around
B. to share the children's curiosity
C. to explain difficult phrases about science
D. to supply the children with lab equipment
9. According to the passage, children can answer questions in a more logi?cal, complete and creative way if adults .
A. ask them to answer quickly
B. wait for one or two seconds after a question
C. tell them to answer the next day
D. wait at least for three seconds after a question
10. In which paragraph does the author tell us what to say to encourage children in a science discussion?
A. The second paragraph. B. The third paragraph.
C. The fourth paragraph. D. The fifth paragraph.
11. The author mentions all of the following techniques <技巧)for adults to share with their children's curiosity EXCEPT that adults should .
A. tell their children stories instead of reciting (背誦)facts
B. offer their children chances to see things for themselves
C. be patient enough when their children answer questions
D. encourage their children to ask questions of their own

The world welcomes 2015! From New Zealand to New York, the world eagerly celebrates the New Year, hoping for a better future after a year of diseases, struggles and disasters.
The islands of Samoa mid Tokelau in the Pacific Ocean and places loca?ted near the International Date Line mark the dawn o£ the New Year. As celebrations spread westwards, fireworks lit up the night sky in towns and cities around the world, as celebrators partied on the streets.
In some parts of the world, the New Year's celebrations were rather unusual. In many European countries as well as in Coney Island, New York, swimmers braved freezing water temperatures for a dip in the ocean or lake on January 1. In Rome, Italy, divers jumped off the 59-foot-high Cavour Bridge into the Tiber River. Londoners rang in the New Year with a massive fireworks display with dozens of rockets lighting up the night sky. The Scots' celebration of New Year is also called "Hogmanay". A torchlight procession led by men dressed as Vikings kicks off four days of Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh, Scotland. The procession ends with the burning of a Viking long ship. Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the year. Street festivals are held on each day culminating in a fireworks dis?play.
In New York, hundreds of thousands gathered to witness a huge ball with more than 30, 000 lights descend at midnight. This tradition was adopted by The New York Times (aher whom the square is named)in 1908 to attract crowds to celebrate the paper's new headquarters. The ball has dropped every year since then except during the wartime years of 1942 and 1943. The first ball was made of iron, but now 2,688 crystal(水晶)trian?gles decorate this lighted ball.
