A long-awaited final report from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concludes that foods from healthy cloned animals and their offspring(后代) are as safe as those from ordinary animals, effectively removing the last US regulatory(監(jiān)管的) barrier to the marketing of meat and milk from cloned cattle, pigs and goats.

The 968-page final report, not yet released but obtained by The Washington Post, finds no evidence to support people’s concerns that food from clones may have hidden risks.

But, recognizing that a majority of consumers are wary of food from clones—and that cloning could damage the good image of American milk and meat—the report includes hundreds of pages of raw(原始的) data so that others can see how it came to its conclusions.

The report also admits that human health concerns are not the only subject raised by the coming-out of cloned farm animals.

“Moral, religious and ethical concerns have been raised,” the agency notes in a document accompanying the report. But the report is “exactly a science-based evaluation.” It reports, because the agency is not authorized by law to consider those subjects.

In practice, it will be years before foods from clones make their way to store shelves in large quantities, in part because the clones themselves are too valuable to kill for meat or milk. Instead, the expensive animals—replicas(復(fù)制品) of some of the finest farm animals ever born—will be used firstly as breeding stock to create what supporters say will be a new generation of superior farm animals.

When food from those animals hits the market, the public may yet have its say. FDA officials have said they do not expect to require food from clones to be labeled as such, but they may allow foods from ordinary animals to be labeled as not from clones.

64.   What can we infer from the first paragraph?

A.    FDA has waited for a long time to get this final report.

B.    Products from cloned animals have been put into the market before.

C.    People are having the products from cloned animals safely.

D.    There have been once opposite opinions against cloned products.

65.   What does the underlined word “wary” mean?

A. Disappointed.           B. Careful.         C. Fond.                                 D. Proud.

66.   It will be a few years before foods from clones come into the market, partly because _____.

A.    people have little knowledge of the cloned animals

B.    supporters can’t give powerful evidence to support that

C.    the few cloned animals will first be used to create superior animals

D.    they are a new generation for the customers and are too valuable for the customers

67.   What can we conclude from the passage?

A.    FDA officials encourage people to eat more food from clones.

B.    FDA officials think the food from clones will sell better than ordinary food.

C.    People only worry about the health problems when it comes to foods from the clones.

D.    All the foods will not have detailed labels on them.

Some skyscrapers now being built will have built-in devices to help firemen in rescuing people from top floors. Steel bars, much like the rails trains run on, are firmly attached to the outer walls. The rails run straight up the walls between rows of windows.

During a fire alert at a skyscraper with this device, a special fire engine will arrive. Instead of an extension ladder, the engine will carry a light metal box. On its front is a window;on the back are a door opening and four special wheels. An electric motor that turns the wheels receives its supply of power from the fire engine through a long cable.

The firemen handle the box so that the wheels grip two adjacent rails on the building. The motor is switched on. The box, with a fireman inside, runs up the wall of the skyscraper where people await rescue at the windows.

(part of Yanglan’s speech in Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games)

Mr.President, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good afternoon!

Before I introduce our cultural programs, I want to tell you one thing first about 2008.You're going to have a great time in Beijing.

Many people are fascinated by China’s Sport legends(傳奇)in history. For example, back to Song Dynasty, which was the 11th century, people in our country started to play a game called Cuju, which is regarded as the origin of ancient football. The game was so popular that women were also participating. So now, you probably will understand why our women football team does so well today.

With a concept inspired by the famed Silk Road, our Torch Relay will break new ground, traveling from Olympia through some of the oldest civilizations known to man-Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Byzantine, Mesopotamian, Persian, Arabian, Indian and Chinese.Carrying the message "Share the Peace, Share the Olympics," the eternal flame will reach new heights as it crosses the Himalayas over the world's highest summit-Mount Qomolangma, which is known to many of you as Mt.Everest.In China, the torch will pass through Tibet, cross the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, travel the Great Wall and visit Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the 56 ethnic communities who make up our society. On its journey, the flame will be seen by and inspire more human beings than any previous relay.

I am afraid I can not give the whole picture of our cultural programs within such a short period of time. Before I end, let me share with you one story.Seven hundred years ago, amazed by his incredible descriptions of a faraway land of great beauty, people asked Marco Polo whether his stories about China were true. And Marco answered:What I have told you was not even half of what I saw.Actually, what we have shown you here today is only a fraction of Beijing that awaits you.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that Beijing will prove to be a land of wonders to all of you to athletes, spectators(觀眾)and the worldwide television audience alike.Come and join us.

  Thank you, Mr.President.Thank you all.

科目:高中英語 來源:2014屆天津市六校高三上期第一次聯(lián)考英語卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

My grandparents were married for over half a century, and played their own special game the time they had met each other. The goal of their game was to write the word “shmily” in a surprise place for the other to find. They took turns leaving “shmily” around the house, and as soon as one of them discovered it, it was their turn to hide it once more. They dragged “shmily” with their fingers through the sugar and flour containers to await whoever was preparing the next meal. “Shmily” was written in the steam left on the mirror after a hot shower, where it would reappear bath after bath. There was no end to the places where “shmily” would pop up. Little notes with “shmily” were found on car seats, or taped to steering wheels. The notes were put inside shoes and left under pillows. “Shmily” was written in the dust upon the mantel(壁爐架)and traced in the ashes of the fireplace. This mysterious word was as much a part of my grandparents’ house as the furniture.

It took me a long time before I was able to fully appreciate my grandparents’ game. Skepticism has kept me from believing in true love --- one that is pure and enduring (持久的). However, I never doubted my grandparents’ relationship. It was based on passionate(熱情的)affection which not everyone is lucky enough to experience.

But there was a dark cloud in my grandparents’ life: my grandmother had breast cancer. The disease had first appeared ten years earlier. As always, Grandpa was with her every step of the way. He comforted her in their yellow room, painted that way so that she could always be surrounded by sunshine, even when she was too sick to go outside. But my grandmother grew steadily weaker until, finally, she could not leave the house anymore. Then one day, what we all dreaded finally happened. Grandma was gone.

“Shmily.” It was written in yellow on the pink ribbons of my grandmother’s funeral bouquet (花束). As the crowd thinned and the last mourners turned to leave, Grandpa stepped up to my grandmother’s coffin and, taking a shaky breath, he began to sing to her. Through his tears and grief, the song came: S-h-m-i-l-y: See How Much I Love You.

1.According to the passage, where may the word “shmily” be found?

a.in the flour containers

b.on the mirror

c.on the sheet of toilet paper

d.on pillows

e.on the furniture

A.a, b     B. b, c     C. a, d     D. b, e

4.According to the passage, the author _________.

A.thought the game was meaningless

B.believes everyone can experience true love

C.doubted the existence of true love at first

D.sometimes left “shmily” around the house
