Not all individuals visiting another country will experience all these four stages.

The first stage is called‘the honeymoon'.In this stage,you are excited about living in a different place可知,在被稱為"蜜月期"的第一階段,你會對生活在一個新地方感覺很興奮.
The next stage is‘the hostility stage'.In this stage, you begin to notice not everything is as good as you originally thought it was. 及下文people don't treat you like a guest anymore. You become tired of many things about the new culture.
Then you come to the third stage called‘recovery'.In this stage, you start to feel more positive." The whole situation starts to become more favorable and you begin to learn to adapt yourself to it整個局面開始變得比較有利,你開始學(xué)會了讓自己去適應(yīng)局面. And you come to understand everything you don't understand.
The last stage of culture shock is called‘a(chǎn)djustment'.In this stage, you have reached a point where you actually feel good. The things that originally made you feel uncomfortable or strange are now things that you understand. You have learned enough to understand the new culture.
Not all individuals visiting another country will experience all these four stages." It also occurs within cultures as individuals move from place to place or from one setting to another上述階段也發(fā)生在一個文化的內(nèi)部,當(dāng)一個人從一個地方搬到另外一個地方,或從一個環(huán)境到另外一個環(huán)境. In addition, culture shock is not limited to the overseas visitor.

19.Teddy Bear
Can you bear it?The famous teddy bear is more than 100years old,and got its name from a United States president.
In 1902,President Theodore"Teddy"Roosevelt took a trip to the American South to help work out a land disagreement between Mississippi and Louisiana.While there,the president went hunting for bears.
Days passed with no luck for the president,but lots of good luck for the bears.Finally,his guides captured (捕獲) a bear and offered to let the president shoot it,so he wouldn't have to go home empty-handed.
Roosevelt flatly (斷然地) refused.He thought it would be unfair and cruel.
When word of the president's decision got out,a cartoonist for The Washington Star newspaper drew a picture of the bear and Roosevelt holding up his hand to say"No".The cartoon was seen all over the country,making the president,who was already popular,a hero.
Meanwhile (同時),the owner of a small store in New York asked his wife to make a toy bear for sale.He displayed it in his window with a copy of the cartoon and a sign that said,"Teddy's Bear."
That bear,and many others like it,sold big,especially after President Roosevelt gave his official permission for his name to be used.Finally,the letter"s"was dropped and Teddy's Bear became simply the teddy bear.

16.To err is human. To blame the other guy is even more human.
Common sense is not all that common.
Why tell the truth when you can come up with a good excuse?
These three popular misquotes (戲謔的引語) are meant to be jokes, and yet they tell us a lot about human nature. To err,or to make mistakes,is indeed a part of being human, but it seems that most people don't want to accept the responsibility for the problem.Perhaps it is the natural thing to do.The original quote about human nature went like this:To err is human,to forgive, divine (神圣的).This saying mirrors a deal people should be forgiving of others'mistakes.Instead,we tend to do the opposite---find someone else to pass the blame on to.However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a making of great maturity.
Common sense is what we call clear thought.Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan.Common sense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm, but you leave the umbrella home when you hear a weather forecast for sunshine.Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everything.People say that in a large company,"the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing."
And what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art?One of the common problems with making excuses is that people, especially young people get the idea that it's okay not to be totally honest all the time. There is a corollary (直接推論) to that:if good excuse is"good"even if it isn't honest, then where is the place of the truth?
28.According to the passage, which of the following seems the most human?D
A.To search for truth.
B.To achieve one's ideal.
C.To make fun of others'mistakes.
D.To criticize others for one's own error.
29.According to the author,what is a sign of a man's maturity?B
A.Doing things his own way.
B.Bearing responsibility for his mistakes.
C.Making as few mistakes as possible.
D.Thinking seriously about his wrongdoing.
30.What is the author's opinion about a good excuse?D
A.Making a good excuse is sometimes a better policy.
B.Inventing a good excuse needs creative ideas.
C.A good excuse is as rewarding as honesty.
D.Bitter truth is better than a good excuse.
31.What would be the best title for his passage?A
A.Mirror of Human Nature
B.To Blame or to Forgive
C.A Mark of Maturity
D.Truth or Excuse.

17.Electrical devices(儀器)could soon use power made by human energy.Scientists say they have developed an experimental device that produces electricity from the physical movement of a person walking,British scientist Max Donelan and other scientists in Canada and the United States developed the device.
The device connects to a person's knee.As the person walks,the device captures energy each time the person slows down.To do this,the device helps with the slowing down movement of the leg,the movements of the walking person push parts of a small machine that produces electricity.Using the device,an adult walking quickly could produce thirteen watts of electricity in just a minute.Donelan says walking at that speed could produce enough power to operate a laptop computer for six minutes.
There are several possible uses for the device.Developers say it could help people who work in areas without electricity to operate small computers.The device could also he used in hospitals to operate heart pacemakers,it could even be used to assist in the movement of robotic arms and legs.
The experimental version of the device weighs about one and a half kilograms, but it is too costly for most people to buy, but the researchers hope to make a lighter, less costly version,An improved version should be ready in one year.
The developers hope the device will one day help developing countries; nearly twenty five prcent of people around the world live without electric power.
A similar product was invented in 2005by Larry Rome of the University of Pennsylvania,He created a bag carried on a person's back that also produces power from walking.The knee device does not produce as much electricity as the bag,but the bag requires the walker to carry a load of twenty to thirty kilograms.
32.The second paragraph mainly talks aboutB
A.who developed the device
B.how the device works
C.several possible uses for the devices
D.how much electricity the device can produce
33.What is the disadvantage of the experimental version of the device?C
A.It is too heavy for the walker to bear
B.It is too complex for people to use
C.It is too expensive for most people to afford
D.It will slow down one's walking speed
