One night in March 1999, a man was driving from California to Oregon, US, to visit some friends. He had stopped his car to have some food when he started to hear strange noises. Turning on the headlights, he saw an 8-foot-tall creature covered in thick, dark hair. The creature stared at him for a minute, turned in the road and walked off slowly into the woods.
In the past 50 years alone, there have been thousands of reported sightings of similar creatures in the US, Canada, the Himalayas(喜馬拉雅山地區(qū))and even Hubei Province in China. The creature is known as bigfoot.
Bigfoot is said to be a very tall(between 2 and 4. 5 metres), ape-like(類人猿似的)creature that is covered in hair and walks upright on two legs. It is very wary(警惕的)of human beings.
Believers think bigfoot is a direct descendent(后代)of ancient gigantopithecus(巨猿). But it remains one of the planet's undiscovered secrets. There is a little evidence(證據(jù))to support the believers' theory: traces of hair, footprints and body prints as well as the reported sightings. Some people have even showed what they say with photos or films of bigfoot.
But so far, no one has found bones or any other definite proof that the giant creature exists.
As a result many people believe the evidence is just part of a big trick.
The footprints are easy to make and they say: all you need to do is to make two large feet out of plaster(石膏), attach them to the bottom of your shoes and walk with big steps. As for the photos and films, they are just people dressed in ape suits.
They also say the sightings are not real, just people making mistakes. For example, bigfoot could be a bear living in the wild that sometimes stands up on its back legs.
(1)So far what we can be sure about is that_______.
A.there exist savages(野人)in several places in the world
B.there are some traces of hair, footprints and body prints of the “bigfoot”
C.bigfoot is a direct descendent of ancient gigantopithecus
D.all the big foot discovered have the same look
(2)It was in______ that man first found the ape-like creature.
A.1999
B.the 1960's
C.the 1950's
D.the 1940's
(3)We can infer from the article that some people _______bigfoot's existence.
A.may fool the world into believing
B.have definite evidences to prove
C.refuse to believe
D.will soon offer proofs of
(4)If bigfoot is just a misunderstanding, what they saw might NOT be________.
A.apes
B.bears
C.gigantopithecus
D.people dressed in animal skins
(1)B
(2)C
(3)A
(4)C
根據(jù)第二段第一句“In the past 50 years alone, there have been thousands of reported sightings of similar creatures in the US, Canada, the Himalayas and even Hubei Province in China. ” 在過去50年以來,已經(jīng)有數(shù)以千計(jì)的目擊報(bào)道類似的生物在美國,加拿大,喜馬拉雅山,甚至在中國湖北。推測可知是the 1950's
(3)A推理判斷題。由文章中“As a result many people believe the evidence is just part of a big trick. ” 因此很多人相信證據(jù)只是一部分推論。作者在暗示有人有意捏造證據(jù), 騙人相信。
(4)C推理判斷題。如果真的是gigantopithecus留下的腳印, 那就證明的確有這樣的動(dòng)物, 而整篇文章都是用的推測的語氣, 由此可得答案為C。

Are you interested in writing a novel? Well, if you want to be a good novelist, you’re supposed to avoid some common writing mistakes, the first one of which is not having a thunderous start. The first word, first sentence, and first page of your novel will decide if the reader wants to turn the page and keep reading.Having too much unnecessary information at the start and keeping the reader waiting for the real story can make him lose interest and give up on the book. You don’t want that to happen. All is well that “starts” well.
It’s also wrong not to have decided on an audience before writing your novel.Decide what kind of an audience your novel will cater to.Once you’re sure who will be reading it, you’ll know what style of writing you should adopt, the kind of language you will have to use. This gives you a direction and enables you to write better.
Another writing mistake is writing with your head, not with your heart.Every kind of reader should be pleased, every character should be perfect, every character should be likable, and the novel should have a happy ending. If these are your thoughts when writing a novel, you are probably not thinking straight.Writing with business or monetary gains as your aim should be discouraged as that affects what you really want to express.Write because you want to, not because you have to.
You also need to avoid writing too quickly or too slowly. If you are writing too slowly, it either means you are just too lazy or procrastinating (延遲).If you are writing too fast, you are either rushing it or are not giving yourself enough time to shape it.Neither of the two is healthy for your novel or you as a writer. Some sections might take longer than others and vice versa.Just maintain the required pace.
Using words and sentences that are neither appropriate nor rich is also a common writing mistake you should avoi
Words are all you have to make the readers feel what the character is feeling, to visualize what the protagonist (主人公) is looking at, or to imagine the coldness in the eyes of the criminal. If you confine (限制) your vocabulary to a limited set of words, you limit the experience of the reader.Anger is not the only word which can be used to express that emotion.Make use of words like fury, wrath, vengeance, rage and frenzy to express anger.Similarly, if a scene needs a dialog, don’t write a report or an essay there.Instead, spice it up by involving an animated, energized dialog.

Diet Coke, diet Pepsi, diet pills, no-fat diet, vegetable diet… We are surrounded by the word “diet” everywhere we look and listen. We have so easily been attracted by the promise and potential of diet products that we have stopped thinking about what diet products are doing to us. We are paying for products that harm us psychologically (心理) and physically.
Diet products greatly weaken us psychologically. On one level, we are not allowing our brain to admit that our weight problems lie not in actually losing the weight, but in controlling the amount of fatty, high-calorie, unhealthy foods. Diet products allow us to jump over the thinking stage and go straight for the scale(秤) instead. All we have to do is to recognize the word “diet” in food labels.
On another level, diet products have greater psychological effects. Every time we have a zero-calorie drink, we are telling ourselves without our awareness that we don't have to work to get results. Diet products make people believe that gain comes without pain, and that life can be without struggle.
The danger of diet products lies not only in the psychological effects they have on us, but also in the physical harm that they cause. Diet foods can indirectly harm our bodies because eating them instead of healthy foods means we are preventing our bodies from having basic nutrients. Diet foods and diet pills contain zero calorie only because the diet industry has created chemicals to produce these wonder products. Diet products may not be nutritional, and the chemicals that go into diet products are possibly dangerous in the future.
Now that we are aware of the effects that diet products have on us, it is time to seriously think about buying them. Losing weight lies in the power of minds, not in the power of chemicals. Once we realize this, we will be much better able to resist diet products, and therefore prevent the psychological harm that comes from using them.
(1)From Paragraph 1, we learn that __________.
A.diet products fail to bring out people's potential
B.people have difficulty in choosing diet products
C.diet products are misleading people
D.people are tired of diet products
(2)One psychological effect of diet products is that people tend to _________.
A.try out a variety of diet foods
B.think twice before they enjoy diet foods
C.pay attention to their own eating habits
D.watch their weight rather than their diet
(3)Diet products indirectly harm people physically because such products ______.
A.are over-taken
B.are short of basic nutrients
C.have no chemicals
D.provide too much energy
