16.In the United States,30percent of the grown-up population has a"weight"problem.To many people,the cause is clear:they eat too much.But scientific experiments do little to support this idea.Going back to the American of 1910,we find that people were thinner than today,yet they are more food.In those days people worked harder physically,walked more,used machines much less,and didn't watch television.
Several modern studies,besides,have shown that fatter people do not eat more on average than thinner people.In fact,some research work,such as 1970study of 3,545London office workers,reports that fat people eat less than thinner people on the average.
Studies show that thin people are more active than fat people.A study by the research group of School of Medicine at Stanford University found the following interesting facts.The more a man ran,the greater body fat he lost.The more he ran,the greater he needed for food.Thus,those who ran the most ate the most,yet lost the greater amount of body fat.

12.There are thousands of products (商品) of all colors and shapes in a supermarket,making you believe that they are worth a try.How?Packaging is the silent but persuading salesman.
There on the shelves,each bottle,can,box,and jar has been carefully designed and measured to speak to the inner self of the consumer,because he/she is buying not only a product but also his/her belief in life.Scientists have studied consumer behavior recently and found that the look of the package has a great effect on the"quality"of the product and on how well it sells,because"consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package.Many products are packages and many packages are products.",as Louis Cheskin,the first social scientist studying consumers'feelings for packaging,noticed.
Colors are one of the best tools in packaging.Studies of eye movement have shown that colours draw human attention quickly.Take V8for example.For many years,the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that is it very good for your body.And the word"green"today can keep food prices going up.
Shapes are another attraction.Circles often suggest happiness and peacefulness,because these shapes are pleasing to both the eye and the heart.That's why the round yellow M signs of McDonald's are inviting to both young and old.
This new consumer response to the colors and shapes of packages reminds producers and sellers that people by to satisfy both body and soul.

7.Do you have a habit of writing things down?Making time to write down certain things,such as our daily experiences,our goals,and our thoughts can change the way we live our lives.Here are 4ways that tell you writing things down can change your life.
(1)It clears your mind for higher-level thinking.
You can clear your mind by writing things down in two different ways:writing to-do lists and writing morning pages.David Allen,the author of Getting Things Done suggests writing down every task,activity and project you need to pay attention to.Writing down every"to-do"item that you can think of clears space in your head for more important topics.You can also write"morning pages",which was pioneered by Julia Cameron,author of The Artist's Way.Morning pages involves(牽涉)what's important in your mind.Through doing this first thing each morning,you clear your head in preparation for the day's most important thinking.
(2)It gives you a record of the past.
If you keep a diary and regularly write down your thoughts and feelings,you'll soon have a record of your experiences.Keeping a diary is sometimes like talking a situation through with a friend.Reading back through this record also provides a valuable record about your past thought and feelings.You can recall some special moments or special events that you could have forgotten.Many people have dreams of writing a book.When you keep writing down things,you'll realize that you have written a book.
(3)You have a sense of achievement.
Writing things down can help you get a sense of achievement and can also raise your levels of self-trust.When you look back to see how successfully you've gone through and dealt with important decisions and difficult situations in the past,you'll have a sense of achievement and feel more confident in your ability to achieve your goals.Equally,if we write down everything we need to do in a special day or week,we have a sense of satisfaction (滿足) when,having completed the task,we can cross the item off our list.
(4)It helps you think big.
Writing things down gives you space to think big and aim high.When we write things down,we enter a world of possibility and have a chance to make further plans.Writing our goals and dreams down makes it more likely that we'll achieve them one day.Writing down our goals is therefore the first step towards making them a reality.

66.Julia Cameron may most probably agree thatA.

Your Bank
In many cases you can purchase U.S.currency for your trip from a bank.Banks tend to have higher exchange rates than some currency exchange businesses.Before you purchase currency from a bank,check the currency change rates for that day so you can compare the rate the bank is giving and determine if it's a good offer.There is a fee involved in withdrawing foreign currency from your bank.

5.Can you believe your eyes?A recent experiment suggests that the answer to that question may depend on your age.
Martin Doherty,a psychologist at the University of Stifling in Scotland, led the team of scientists. In this experiment,Doherty and his team tested the perception(觀察力) of some people, using pictures of some orange circles. The researchers showed the same pictures to two groups of people. The first group included 151 children aged 4 to 10,and the second group included 24 adults aged 18 to 25.
The first group of pictures showed two circles alone on a white background. One of the circles was larger than the other, and these people were asked to identify the larger one.Four-year-olds identified the correct circle 79 percent of the time.Adults identified the correct circle 95 percent of the time.
Next, both groups were shown a picture where the orange circles, again of different sizes, were surrounded by gray circles. Here's where the trick lies in.In some of the pictures, the smaller orange circle was surrounded by even smaller gray circles--making the orange circle appear larger than the other orange circle, which was the real larger one.And the larger orange circle was surrounded by even bigger gray circles--so it appeared to be smaller than the real smaller orange circle.
When young children aged 4 to 6 looked at these tricky pictures, they weren't fooled-they were still able to find the bigger circle with roughly the same accuracy as before.Older children and adults,on the other hand, did not do as well.Older children often identified the smaller circle as the larger one,and adults got it wrong most of the time.
As children get older,Doherty said, their brains may develop the ability to identify visual context(背景).In other words, they will begin to process the whole picture at once:the tricky gray circles,as well as the orange circle in the middle. As a result, they're more likely to fall for this kind of visual trick.
71.Doherty and his team of scientists did an experiment to evaluate.D
A.children's and adults'brains
B.children's and adults'eye-sight
C.the influence of people's age

72.When asked to find the larger circle,.C
A.a(chǎn)dults got it right most of the time with gray ones around
B.children at 6 got it wrong 79%of the time with no gray ones around
C.children at 4 got it right about 79%of the time with gray ones around
D.only adults over 1 8 got it right 95%of the time with gray ones around
73.According to the passage,we can know that.A
A.a(chǎn) circle surrounded by bigger ones looks smaller than its real size
B.a(chǎn)n orange circle appears bigger than a gray one of the same size
C.a(chǎn) circle surrounded by other circles looks bigger than its real size
D.a(chǎn) smaller orange circle appears bigger on a white background
74.Visual context may work when children get older than.B
A.4               B.6               C.10              D.18
75.Why are younger children not fooled?D
A.Because older people are influenced by their experience.
B.Because they are smarter than older children and adults.
C.Because people's eyes become weaker as they grow older.
D.Because their brains can hardly notice related things together.
