Five Ways to Work Smarter, Not Harder

No matter how hard we work, it seems that there is never enough time to get all the important tasks done. Rather than working longer, consider working smarter, not harder. Here are some ways to work smarter:

Make a careful plan. Just like every organization needs a business plan, an efficient worker needs a work plan. 【1 Schedule your tasks throughout the days, weeks, and months, but do it ahead of time.

Set your goals. As a part of your work plan, you should set clear and measurable goals. Goals should state which tasks are to be completed and when they get completed. Rather than setting firm deadlines, which can lead to pressure and stress, allow a period of time to reach goals. 2

3 Develop a consistent daily work schedule and stick to it! If a typical workday consists of some writing tasks(emails, reports), one-on-one meetings, and processing data, set aside specific time each day to accomplish each kind of tasks.

Delegate(授權(quán))effectively. 4 The person who tries to do everything himself or herself not only is overloaded and overstressed, but is bad for their colleagues, by not allowing them to be challenged and grow by taking on important duties.

Don’t make work harder than it actually is. Much of the pressure is produced by ourselves. __5 We feel like we should do more. Remember that tasks should be completed step by step. Focus on each step rather than on the entire project, which can help us cut down on feelings that we are “overwhelmed”.

A. Stick to your plan.

B. We set unrealistic goals or standards for ourselves.

C. Also, take time to reward yourself for achieving a goal.

D. Organize your workday.

E. We cannot expect to complete the tasks quickly.

F. Learn which tasks can be delegated and which need personal attention.

G. It is a well-thought-out plan to help guide and direct work activities.

【題目】All hotels redecorate regularly. However, very few do it as frequently as Sweden’s Icehotel. As the name indicatesthe hotel that is located in the remote village of Jukkasjarvi, is built entirely from ice and, therefore, has to be rebuilt annually! The 26th version of Icehotel, which welcomed its first visitors on December 11th,features 69 rooms. To make them affordable for everyone, they range from expensive luxury suites to basic accommodations.

Among this year’s unique suite offerings is the“Elephant in the Room”,which features a massive 3-m tall sculpted African elephant overlooking an ice—framed bed. The“Counting Sheep”suite features frozen sheep that may help those who don’t sleep well get a good night’s rest. Though the atmosphere between the luxury suites and the budget rooms may differ, they are all subject to the bone-chilling-5 temperatures. To get a good night’s rest guests have to lie inside sleeping bags and keep their gloves and hats on. Though that seems a little uncomfortablevisitors say it is an experience like none other.

The hotel also features a beautifully crafted ice church where over 100 couples will get married this year and an Ice Bar that will serve drinks in ice glasses. Though dining options are limited to the hotel’s only restaurant, guests will have little to complain about with Michelin—trained chef Alexander Meier. To keep customers entertainedthe hotel offers a variety of fun activities like snowshoeing, moose or snowmobile safarisdog sledding, and even overnight wilderness camping.

The 26-year-·old tradition began accidentally in 1989 when locals organized an art exhibition to draw winter visitors to the remote village that lies 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Among the many tourists was an adventurous group and they announced their intention of spending the night in the place where the exhibition was being held. That’s when the idea of building the icy accommodations dawned on the locals.

【題目】Mr William Shakespeare and the Internet

Explanation of Contents

This is the fourth edition of these pages. It is hard to believe, but once again they are new and improved. My motive in publishing these pages remains to help and stimulate others in Shakespeare studies, and especially those who might contribute their work to the Internet. The spirit of altruism (利他主義) that originally built the Internet is not quite gone, though, sadly, through the pressure of time and profit has lessened.

A major new addition to the pages is a Shakespeare Timeline, which is an online biography mounted at this site. The problems with searching for Shakespeare resources using the available Search Engines are:

---- It is difficult to focus most searches so that you get a manageable number of relevant hits;

---- It is impossible by simply reading an abstract(摘要) to make any distinction between the output of a Junior High School student and that of a professional researcher.

Another change in these pages over previous editions is the “What’s News” page. If you come away from these pages with the feeling that they are very useful but slightly pedantic (學(xué)究的), I will have realized my goal.

An Apology

I am continually apologizing to the many who have written me requesting revisions of the pages. We are all too busy. I simply have not had the time to dedicate to these pages that I wish. But I love the material and so have, at long last, made some time to update them.

A Reminder to Young StudentsThese pages contain the best links I can find to Shakespeare on the Internet. As a reminder, I would say I very much enjoy hearing from people who view and use these pages. If you want to do Shakespeare research using the web, this page is a great starting point, and I keep it as current as I can. The web is in its infancy(初期in bringing good, scholarly content to students. Don’t forget the best, if not quickest, resources are still in your library.

【1】The passage is written to ________.

A. introduce the fourth edition of these pages

B. make an apology to readers

C. show off these pages to readers

D. let Shakespeare researchers buy these pages

【2】When searching for Shakespeare resources using Search Engines, you ________.

A. can easily recognize what the abstract means

B. will waste some time in finding what you want

C. will often come into the “What’s News” pages

D. will find something special on your computers

【3】Which of the following can best conclude the last paragraph?

A. The writer will often read letters from those who use these pages.

B. The writer of the passage is very selfish.

C. The web was just created four years ago.

D. Shakespeare researchers should first of all refer to these pages.
