Gift from a stranger
My local supermarket is always busy. The first parking space I found was convenient, but I'd noticed a woman in a blue car circling for a while. I was in a good mood, I let her have it. On the edge of the car park I backed into the next available spot—it was a tight fit.
Pretty soon I'd made my way through the supermarket and was back in the fresh air. Feeling good, I (empty) my purse change into the hands of a homeless man and helped a struggling woman reverse park(倒車(chē)).
Just as I approached my car, 1 saw the woman I'd let have my car space earlier. She was giving me odd look—half puzzled, half intent (熱切的). I smiled and wished her a pleasant day. As I squeezed back into my car, I spotted the same lady (look) in at me. "Hello," she said, hesitantly. "This sound crazy but I was on my way to drop some of my mother's things off at the charity bins.” You are just so much her.” You helped those people, I noticed, and you seemed so happy.” She looked at me meaningfully and passed a box in through the window. “I think she would like you to have it.” (shock), I took it from her automatically. She smiled and walked away.
After a pause, I opened the box. Inside was a beautiful gold necklace with a large grey pearl. It was (nice) gift I'd ever received, and it was from a complete stranger. The necklace was around my neck, a warm reminder of human kindness.

As/Because/Since;emptied;an;looking;might/may;like;Shocked;the nicest
As I squeezed back into my car是一個(gè)狀語(yǔ)從句,根據(jù)句子成分分析,主句已經(jīng)有了謂語(yǔ)形式saw,所以判斷空格應(yīng)該是一個(gè)非謂語(yǔ)的形式。由于see有一個(gè)用法是see sb doing,用于看到正在進(jìn)行的事情。
6.分析該空的句子結(jié)構(gòu),You為主語(yǔ) are為系動(dòng)詞,just so much為狀語(yǔ),me為賓語(yǔ),可以得知,劃線(xiàn)部分應(yīng)該是填一個(gè)介詞,構(gòu)成主+be+介詞+賓語(yǔ)的結(jié)構(gòu)。

People select news in expectation of a reward. This reward may be either of two kinds. One is related to what Freud calls the Pleasure Principle, the other to what he calls the Reality Principle. For want of better names, we shall call these two classes immediate reward and delayed reward.
In general, the kind of news which may be expected to give immediate reward are news of crime and corruption, accidents and disasters, sports, social events, and human interest. Delayed reward may be expected from news of public affairs, economic matters, social problems, science, education, and health.
News of the first kind pays its rewards at once. A reader can enjoy an indirect experience without any of the dangers or stresses involved. He can tremble wildly at an axe-murder, shake his head sympathetically and safely at a hurricane, identify himself with the winning team, laugh understandingly at a warm little story of children or dogs.
News of the second kind, however, pays its rewards later. It sometimes requires the reader to tolerate unpleasantness or annoyance — as, for example, when he reads of the threatening foreign situation, the mounting national debt, rising taxes, falling market, scarce housing, and cancer. It has a kind of “threat value.” It is read so that the reader may be informed and prepared. When a reader selects delayed reward news, he pulls himself into the world of surrounding reality to which he can adapt himself only by hard work. When he selects news of the other kind, he usually withdraws from the world of threatening reality toward the dream world.
For any individual, of course, the boundaries of these two classes are not stable. For example, a sociologist may read news of crime as a social problem, rather than for its immediate reward. A coach may read a sports story for its threat value: he may have to play that team next week. A politician may read an account of his latest successful public meeting, not for its delayed reward, but very much as his wife reads an account of a party. In any given story of corruption or disaster, a thoughtful reader may receive not only the immediate reward of indirect experience, but also the delayed reward of information and preparedness. Therefore, while the division of categories holds in general, an individual’s tendency may transfer any story from one kind of reading to another, or divide the experience between the two kinds of reward.

What news stories do you read?

Division of
news stories

● People expect to get from reading news.
● News stories are roughly divided into two classes.

● Readers will associate themselves closely with what happens in the news stories and imilar feelings with those involved.

● News of delayed reward will make readers suffer, or present a to them.
● News of delayed reward will induce the reader to for the reality while news of immediate reward will lead the reader to from the reality.

Unstable boundaries
of the two classes

● What readers expect from news stories are largely shaped by their .
● Serious readers will both get excited over what happens in some news stories and themselves to the reality.
● Thus, the division, on the whole, on the reader.

There are two ways to look at this question --- 1 relating to eggs in general or to the chicken egg specifically. Either way, the answer is the same: the egg came before the chicken. 2 the case of eggs in general, animals such as dinosaurs were laying eggs long before the modern chicken came into existence, 3 (mean) that in this sense, the egg predated (早于) the chicken by thousands of years. As for the chicken egg specifically , according to NPR’s Robert Krulwich, the modern chicken 4 (hatch 孵化) from an egg, meaning the egg came first.

The key to understanding the answer, and indeed the question itself, is to understand what the question is getting at. The dilemma is to understand 5 a chicken-like bird transformed into 6 is known as a modern chicken after being hatched or whether two chicken-like birds 7 (lay) and fertilized an egg that then hatched a fully formed chicken. In this case, the latter option is the most realistic, therefore answering the question of which came first. 8 (essential), a bird that was similar to a hen and another bird that is similar to 9 rooster combined their genetic material, leading to a gene mutation (突變) that resulted in the chicken that is 10 (good) known and loved today.
