【題目】Some researchers believe that the mobile phone makes youngsters less thoughtful and makes it easier for them to make mistakes in life. Hitting a few keys and then seeing the desired word appear in full trains children to be fast but inaccurate when they do other things, according to scientists. They warn that this could have a negative impact on a whole generation.
ChildWise, a market research firm specializing in children's products, found that one in four undereights had a mobile. The total of 4.5 million youngsters with mobiles included 58 percent of 9 to 10yearolds, 89 percent of 11 to 12yearolds, 93 percent of 13 to 14yearolds and 95 percent of 15 to 16yearolds.
Experts are also concerned about the possible impact of mobile phone radiation on developing brains. But Michael Abramson, a professor at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, says the amount of radiation transmitted during text messaging is a mere 0.03 percent of that transmitted during voice calls — suggesting radiation is not to blame for the brain effects.
In a recent study, Prof Abramson analyzed the mobile phone use of children aged between 11 and 14 and their ability to carry out a number of computer tests. He found that increased mobile phone use appears to change the way their brains work. He said, “The kids who used their phones a lot were faster on some of the tests, but were less accurate. We suppose that using mobile phones a lot, particularly tools like predictive texts for SMS, is training them to be fast but inaccurate. The use of mobile phones is changing the way children learn and pushing them to become more impulsive in the way they behave without thinking things through.”
The findings follow other research that suggested that text messaging encourages children's language skills and does not damage the ability to spell.
【1】It can be concluded from the ChildWise's research that ________.
A. the older the child is, the greater chance he has a mobile phone

C. children aged between 11-14 were not involved in the research
D. 4.5 million people have a mobile phone in Australia
【2】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Prof Abramson thinks mobile phones have little effect on children.
B. There's less radiation transmitted during text messaging than during voice calls.
C. Text messaging trains children to be fast and accurate.
D. Text messaging may damage children's ability to spell.
【3】What does the underlined word “impulsive” in the fourth paragraph mean?

I took the Harvard Summer School program in my vacation. During my stay there, I spend a lot of time studying in the main library Widener. I enjoyed myself in the ocean of knowledges, either doing research for my papers or read special edition books. The library, which it is named after its donor Harry Widener, stands right next to the Emerson building of philosophy. Opening a pair of heavy yet elegant metal doors, I was immediate bathed in warm light. I wandered around the library, fascinating to find one treasure after other.
The library is a amazing place. One can fully experience the academic atmosphere only he visits the library. For me, the library as well as the courses explain Harvard’s place as the home of devoted scholars.

What is eco-fashion? Eco-fashion is about making clothes that take into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry. It is a complex phenomenon and the common use of the fashionable terms—‘ecological' and ‘ethical'. Ecological fashion usually refers to textile (織物) and clothing production processes and the environmental issues surrounding them;ethical fashion generally relates to the working conditions involved in the producing processes.
What are the problems with fashion? A closer look at the fashion industry points out many problems that are common practices in the creation of our fashions from the field to the factory. Firstly, the production of textiles pollutes the environment heavily. Cotton-planting uses pesticides; sheep-farming and wool-cleaning contribute to global warming; synthetics-making (人造纖維生產(chǎn)) brings about waste which does harm to our environment. Secondly, every stage of clothing production has a significant effect on the environment. They all use a great deal of energy, and some also involve chemicals which evidently do harm to the surroundings. In addition to this, there is a lot of waste produced in the process, especially in the form of polluted water. Thirdly, growing consumption levels and our shopping habits further worsen the bad effects. We are now buying clothes in increasing quantities without realizing the scale on which it affects natural environment, and we are also quick to throw away clothes that have been worn only a couple of times.
Then, how to solve the problems? Other industries that design products are ahead of the fashion industry when it comes to choosing sustainable materials, designing for minimum waste, choosing energy efficient manufacturing and creating products for longevity. The fashion industry has been slow to adopt these changes and part of the problem is the very nature of fashion. To a large degree, it is the fashion producers that really have the power and the responsibility to shape our future. There are numerous ways in which these producers can reduce their ecological footprint, from switching to green energy and reducing energy use, through selecting sustainable materials and choosing local suppliers,to recycle and minimize waste. On the other hand, as consumers we can all make contributions by selecting environmentally friendly clothing and reducing clothing consumption.
There is some concern that eco-friendly fashions are just a trend that we will eventually grow tired of but we can make sure that doesn't happen. Now many people are beginning to shop for organic food products because the benefits of eating food free of chemicals are straightforward and immediate. They relate directly to our personal health. In fact, choosing eco-fashion can also contribute to our personal health, though it is mostly done by way of keeping the health of the planet.

【題目】閱讀理解
You can tell a lot about people by looking at their hair – not just whether they brush, spray or blow-dry. Scientists have found a way to use hair to figure out where a person is from and where that person has been. The finding could help solve crimes, among other useful applications.
Water is central to the new technique. The liquid makes up more than half an adult human's body weight. Our bodies break water down into hydrogen(氫) and oxygen. Atoms of these two elements end up in our tissues, fingernails, and hair.
But not all water is the same. Hydrogen and oxygen atoms can vary in how much they weigh. In the case of hydrogen, for example, there are three types according to their weights. Each type is called a hydrogen isotope(同位素). And depending on where you live, tap water contains different isotopes.
Can hair record this information? That's what James R. Ehleringer, an environmental chemist at the University of Utah, wondered. To find it out, he and his colleagues collected hair from hair stylists in 65 cities across the United States. Even though people drink a lot of bottled water these days, the researchers have found that people's hair has the same isotopes as found in local tap water. That's probably because people usually cook their food with the local water.
Authorities can now use the information to analyze hair samples from criminals or crime victims and narrow their search for clues. For example, one hair sample used in Ehleringer's study came from a man who had moved from San Francisco to Salt Lake City. As his hair grew, it reflected his change in location.
(1)What do we know about the hydrogen isotopes according to Paragraph 3?
A.They are classified by size.
B.Each type of them differs in weight.
C.They can improve the quality of tap water.
D.Some of them cannot combine with oxygen.
(2)Why is it possible to know where people are from by analyzing their hair?
A.People use the same bottled water.
B.People wash their hair in different ways.
C.People's hair is affected by the weather of the places they stay.
D.People' hair indicates the type of water in the places they stay.
(3)The last paragraph is mainly to show _______.
A.how to recognize criminals
B.how to collect hair samples
C.the usefulness of hair analysis
D.the process of Ehleringer's study
(4)Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Water composition
B.Change your hair
C.Hair detectives
D.No way out

Do you want to worry less? Of course you do, right? That's like me asking if I could send you free bacon. Worry is like black mold — it appears in damp conditions and spreads uncontrollably. And often times we don't realize it's there until it's killing us. We must get rid of worry before it destroys us. But how?
Do What You Need to Do.
You ought not to avoid tough projects or hard conversions until the last moment. If you don't do what you should be doing, you will end up spending the rest of the time worrying about the must-do things. Believe it or not, the anxiety that comes from worrying is much worse than the task we're worried about.
Get Intentional.
I think many of us act like we're puppets in a play and we're waiting for something or someone to put us in the right place. You just react to whatever is going on. We need to stop letting life just happen. We need to live on purpose.
You can't have intentionality without making plans. Making plans will enable you to achieve your aims more smoothly. Yet, don't place your plans in stone. You can adjust your plans flexibly. Accept changes. Make new plans.
There are other ways to lessen worry. As long as you are determined to take action, you will live a worry-free life.
A. Worry ruins creativity.
B. Make Plans
C. Do what you should be doing.
D. Here are some effective ways to deal with it.
E. Then move forward.
F. You do the same as people around you do.
G. Nothing can cause worry like purposelessness.
