【答案】
Last December, our school celebrated Christmas with students from our neighboring schools.
One month before Christmas, we held a meeting to discuss how to celebrate Christmas. Many good ideas were put forward. Li Ming suggested inviting students from our neighboring schools to enjoy our Christmas Party, which received agreement from other students.
After that, we began making full preparations for the Christmas Party. Some students practiced dances. Some students prepared some songs with guitar performance. Other students even adapted a play from our textbooks. Li Ming sent invitations to other schools. All the students were busy but felt excited.
Having got everything ready, we welcomed the students from other schools to share our Christmas Party in the school hall on Christmas Day. The wonderful performances won the applause from the audience, who laughed and cheered for the actors. In the final scene, the students from our neighboring schools danced with us excitedly. We had a big day.
All the students, including the students from our neighboring schools, appreciated the Christmas Party, with the expectation of holding a similar party next year.

【題目】 Could your cellphone give you cancer? Whether it could or not, some people are worrying about the possibility that phones, powerlines and wi-fi could be responsible for a range of illnesses, from rashes to brain tumors.
For example,Camilla Rees,48,a former investment banker in the US,moved out of her apartment in San Francisco because of the radiation coming from next door.Rees told the Los Angeles Times that when her neighbors moved in and installed a wi-fi router she lost her ability to think clearly.“I would wake up dizzy in the morning.I’d fall to the floor.I had to leave to escape that nightmare,” she saiD. Since then, she’s been on a campaign against low-level electromagnetic fields,or EMFs(低頻電磁場(chǎng)).
And she’s not alone.Millions of people say they suffer from headaches, depression, nausea and rashes when they’re too close to cellphones or other sources of EMFs.
Although the World Health Organization has officially declared that EMFs seem to pose little threat, governments are still concerneD. In fact, last April, the European Parliament called for countries to take steps to reduce exposure to EMFs.The city of San Francisco and the state of Maine are currently considering requiring cancer-warning labels on cellphones.
If these fears are reasonable, then perhaps we should all be worried about the amount of time we spend talking on our phones or plugging into wi-fi hotpots.
Some say there is evidence to support the growing anxieties.David Carpenter,a professor of environmental health sciences at the University at Albany,in New York, thinks there’s a greater than 95% chance that power lines can cause childhood leuemiA. Also there’s a greater than 90% chance that cellphones can cause brain tumors.
But others believe these concerns are unreasonable paranoia (猜疑).Dr.Martha Linet, the head of radiation epidemiology at the US National Cancer Institute, has looked at the same research as Carpenter but has reached a different conclusion.“I don’t support warning labels for cellphones,” said Linet.“We don’t have the evidence that there’s much danger.”
Studies so far suggest a weak connection between EMFs and illness — so weak that it might not exist at all.A multinational investigation of cellphones and brain cancer,in 13 countries outside the US,has been underway for several years. It’s funded in part by the European Union,in part by a cellphone industry group.
According to Robert Park,a professor of physics at the University of Maryland in the US,the magnetic waves aren’t nearly powerful enough to break apart DNA,which is now known threats, such as UV rays and X-rays,cause cancer.
Perhaps it’s just psychological. Some experts find that the electro-sensitivity syndrome seems to be similar to chemical sensitivity syndrome, which is a condition that’s considered to be psychological.
Whether EMFs are harmful or not,a break in the countryside, without the cellphone, would probably be good for all of us.

My father is the man I respect most. Strict as he may be, however he never fails to show her care and consideration. Once I broke a neighbor window. Seeing nobody around, I ran away immediately. When Dad came home, he noticed my uneasiness and asked me what has happened. I could only tell him a truth. Instead of scold, he praised my honesty and then encouraged me to apologize our neighbor. I learned from this incident that not only does Dad take care of my health and he also teaches me what to be a good citizen. How luckily I am to have such a good father!

Li Hua and Wang Hai are students of Senior Three. They all work hard but have different learning methods. Li Hua listens to her teachers attentive and tries to catch everything the teachers say. She spends more time doing her homework. It is certain what she can go to bed earlier and always keeps energetic in the day.
However, Wang Hai had a different way of learning. He likes to stay up late at the night, so he often feels sleepy in class. Thus, he misses lots of key point and it usually spends him more time to finish his homework, that makes it difficult for him to concentrate what he is doing. I prefer Li Hua's learning method.

Dear Bruce,
I’m very excited to learn from that you will start an English magazine called New Babel. That sounds great and I definitely agree with you on that.
Some of the columns mention in the letter are really my cup of tea. “Cultural Express” gives us better understanding of the world. Unless people from different parts of the world have different value, it’s necessary to learn from each other. Apart from that, “Thoughts” is pretty good for us Chinese students to open our minds and practice their critical thinking. “Entertainment” is amazing! The stories about those popular celebrities are so attractively that we absolutely can’t miss this part. As is often the case, teenagers were fond of popular things.
Well, I can’t list less. I really look forward to read this magazine.
Yours,
Thomas

【題目】On a cold winter day, many years ago, a French art teacher named Pierre Chevalier got on a train in Lyon to go to Paris. When he started his journey, he didn’t know that it was the beginning of almost 40 years of accidents and near death experiences.
During the journey, the train fell into an icy river, killing 12 passengers. Chevalier managed to swim back to the river bank. He only had a broken leg.
Two years later, Chevalier was on a plane from Paris to Moscow when a door suddenly opened and he fell out. A few minutes later, the plane crashed(墜毀); 27 people were killed. Chevalier was so lucky that he landed in a haystack(干草堆).
A few years later, he was hit by a bus, but again had no serious injuries. Then a year after that, he was driving on a mountain road when he saw a truck coming straight at him. He drove the car off the road, jumped out, landed in a tree—and watched his car fall 100 metres down the mountain.
“There are two ways you can look at it,” Chevalier said. “I’m either the world’s unluckiest man, or the world’s luckiest.” When a reporter asked Chevalier what he thought, he chose the “l(fā)uckiest” one.
Two years ago, aged 71, Chevalier bought his first lottery ticket(彩票) in 50 years and won more than 2 million.
After this, a TV company in America said they wanted him to make an advertisement. At first he accepted, but then he changed his mind. Chevalier said he wouldn’t fly to Los Angeles for the filming, because he didn’t want to push his luck. Who knows? If he had accepted the invitation, maybe he would have had another accident. But Mr Chevalier is a lucky man. If he’d had another accident, he probably would have survived that too!
【1】In the train accident many years ago, Chevalier ________.
A. didn’t get injured at all
B. was lucky enough to be alive
C. was finally pulled out of the river
D. was the only passenger to survive
【2】Why did Chevalier refuse to make the advertisement?
A. Because he had won 2 million.
B. Because he didn’t want to leave home.
C. Because he didn’t want to risk his life.
D. Because he didn’t like the TV company.
【3】The text mainly talks about ________.
A. a man with nine lives
B. the unluckiest man in the world
C. a man who traveled around the world
D. a man who earned 2 million in a lottery

【題目】China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil-shortages, car makers have announced their plans to develop hybrid(混合燃料)cars for the Chinese market.Toyota’s hybrid car Prius will be ready to drive in China this week.Let’s have a look at the new car.
Any vehicle is a hybrid car when it combines two or more sources of power.Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engine. They run at 99 percent of their power when the car is going at a steady speed. A specially designed battery motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra speed-up is needed.
Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a traditional car.At this point, the car’s gasoline engine is at rest. The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 kilometers per hour.If you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used, and no waste gas gives off.
The computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two.If you go over 24 kilometers per hour, when you step on the gas, you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.
The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at a high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also charges the batteries.
Any time you use the brake, the electric motor will work like a generator(發(fā)電機(jī))and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a result, the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.
【1】Which of the following pictures can show how the power system of Prius works correctly?(W—Wheel of the car, E.M—electric motor, G.E—gasoline engine, C—computer, B—batteries)
A.
B.
C.
D.
【2】What is the most important characteristic of hybrid cars?
A. They are powered by both a rechargeable battery and gasoline.
B. They have smaller engines than traditional gasoline ones.
C. They use only 99 percent of their power to run up hills.
D. They are much quieter than traditional cars.
【3】We can know from the report that ___________.
A. the batteries can be recharged at any time you want
B. using the brake suggests that the gasoline engine should work
C. the gasoline engine charges the batteries as well as powering the car
D. the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles without being recharged
【4】The author writes this passage mainly to ___________.
A. announce plans to develop hybrid cars for the Chinese market
B. let people know how to save their gasoline when driving a car
C. teach people how to drive a hybrid car
D. introduce a new kind of “green” car
