【題目】 Mary picked up a pencil and a piece of paper, saying, "Now, you want to earn money for the autumn camping trip, right? "Tom, her brother, nodded. He wasn't able to go last year Because he hadn’t earned enough money during the summer. This year he came up with a plan.
He made a necklace(項(xiàng)鏈) for his mother that everyone admired(羨慕). They were surprised to learn that Tom had made it for her. Why not make more necklaces and sell them?
“OK," said Mary, "The first thing you need to do is to work out how much you have now."
“I have $20. 00 in the bank, and $7. 25 in my room," explained Tom.
“That gives you a total of $27.25,” said Mary, “That is called your capital(資金). The next thing you need to know is how much it will cost you to make each necklace.”
“Well, the pet shop will give me all the feathers the birds lose. I'll have to buy the beads (小珠子) and string,” said Tom.
Mary wrote on the piece of paper:
CAPITAL $ 27. 25
EXPENSES Feathers no cost
String for 10 necklaces $ 2.50
Beads for 10 necklaces + $ 15.00
Total(總計(jì)) $17.50
“How much do you think you can sell such a necklace for?" asked Mary.
“Hmm, Tom looked thoughtful and said,” There’s a shop in town that sells almost the same kind of necklace for $7.50. If I charge(要價(jià))$ 6. 00, people will think that's a bargain.”
“OK. If you sell each necklace for $6. 00, you'll make a good profit(利潤(rùn)) on each then,” said Mary.

根據(jù)“IfIsell20necklaces,I’llhaveenoughfromtheprofitforthecampingtripand$10.00leftover.”
根據(jù)文中“Wonderful!”Tomcried,“IfIsell20necklaces,I’llhaveenoughfromtheprofitforthecampingtripand$10.00leftover.”可知,他從賣的20條項(xiàng)鏈的利潤(rùn)中扣除了旅行的費(fèi)用,然后還剩下10美元,故選B。
【5】
最佳標(biāo)題題。根據(jù)文中“Now,youwanttoearnmoneyfortheautumncampingtrip,right?”可知此文是講湯姆將如何掙錢去參加秋天野營旅行的故事,故選D。

【題目】 A makeshift hospital(臨時(shí)醫(yī)院)has been set up by members of the California National Guard in California, in the US.
Feng Bangli, from Wuhan, Hubei, began to have a fever at the end of January and suspected that he had been infected(感染)with the virus. He tried several times to be allowed to enter a hospital but failed. He gave up and stayed at home, taking drugs prescribed (開藥方)by doctors.
At that time, “too many patients were waiting to see doctors at every hospital, and it was not possible for me to get a bed,” said Feng. Days later, with the community staff’s help, Feng tested positive for COVID-19 and was sent to a makeshift hospital for treatment.
“Without such makeshift hospitals, many COVID-19 patients like me may never have found a bed,” said Feng, who recovered(恢復(fù))and was discharged(獲準(zhǔn)離開) from the makeshift hospital in Wuchang district at the end of February after staying there for 12 days.
Like Feng, more than 12,000 COVID-19 patients in Wuhan received treatment and care at 15 makeshift hospitals, which were converted(改造)from exhibition halls and sports stadiums. These hospitals, which mainly received patients with mild symptoms(輕癥), contained one in every four confirmed COVID-19 patients in the city, said Ma Xiaowei, minister of China’s National Health Commission.
“Building makeshift hospitals was a key decision made in the critical(關(guān)鍵的)moment when Wuhan was facing a formidable task of epidemic(疫情)control, and it has played an important role in both prevention and treatment of the disease,” he said.
Makeshift hospitals have greatly reduced pressure(壓力)on designated (指定的)hospitals to receive and treat patients, which made it possible to treat and isolate(隔離)all people in need, said Xu Junmei, vice-president of Wuchang makeshift hospital. “They were the life vessels(生命之舟)during the peak of the epidemic.”
【1】What point does the writer make by using Feng Bangli’s example?
A.COVID-19 has infected a large number of people in a very short time.
B.Hospitals should always be prepared for any unexpected situations.

A.it has greatly reduced pressure on designated hospitals to receive and treat patients.
B.it was needed for receiving and treating patients.
C.Wuhan has a poor medical system.
D.the designated (指定的) hospitals aren’t enough
【4】What did Xu Junmei think of makeshift hospitals?
A.They wasted resources.
B.They were greatly helpful and saved a lot of people.
C.They were not practical.
D.They would not be used any more.
【5】What is the main purpose of the article?
A.To praise China’s quick response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
B.To make other countries copy China’s method of fighting the virus.
C.To show the value of building makeshift hospitals to fight COVID-19.
D.To compare the measures different countries have taken to deal with COVID-19.

【題目】 Both native English speakers and non-native speakers find the spelling of English is the most difficult. The English spelling system is not based on a phonetic (語音) link between sounds and letters, as is the spelling of Spanish and some other languages. Instead, English spelling is affected by the historical development of the language. Some words are pronounced in several different ways; similarly, different combinations (結(jié)合)of letters can produce the same pronunciation.
The link between sound and spelling in English is not phonetically exact for two main reasons. First, spelling changes did not keep pace with changes in the sound system after the development of printing and of conventions (慣例)for spelling. For example, the k in knife and the gh in right come from the Middle English period (from about 1100 to about 1500) , when they were pronounced as separate sounds. Second, there are some spelling conventions that are based on other languages. For example, during the 16th century the "b" was put into the word doubt. This reflected the Latin word, dubitare, even though the "b” was not pronounced in English.
Two further influences contributed to the illogical system of spelling. When books began to be printed in England, the newly invented spelling system was undermined (逐漸削弱)because nearly all the early London printers were foreign. They were usually paid by the line and often put additional letters into words to earn more. They regularly also added extra letters to the last word of a line to make the whole text look neater. Many of their spelling errors eventually became accepted English spellings.
There have been many attempts (試圖,嘗試)to reform English spelling. The author and playwright George Bernard Shaw suggested a completely new alphabet, but this had very limited success. American English has developed some of its own spelling conventions, largely as a result of the work of spelling reformer Noah Webster. Webster attempted to get rid of some of the irregularities from the English spelling system and distance American English from British English. Nevertheless, the system as a whole remains particularly complex, and English is widely regarded as having the worst spelling of any language in the world.
【1】What is the most difficult for native English speakers and non-native speakers?
【2】Why isn't the link between sound and spelling in English phonetically exact?
【3】Did the printers often put additional letters into words to get more money?
【4】What did Noah Webster do to reform English spelling?
【5】What is the passage mainly about?
