【題目】
Soldier and scholar
In difficult times, there are always people who step up and bring hope and confidence to the public.
Doctor Zhong Nanshan is one of them.
“Please don’t travel to Wuhan unless it’s absolutely necessary,” Zhong Nanshan, a famous respiratory (呼吸科的) expert, reminded the public when the novel coronavirus first hit Wuhan. But despite the danger, he, 84, rushed on an overnight train to Wuhan to fight the disease.
Known as the hero who defeated SARS in 2003, Zhong’s image and messages are flooding (遍布) social media. Many people say they “trust every word of Zhong”. He has given Chinese people confidence in winning the battle.
A great doctor and honest scholar (學(xué)者)
Growing up in a family of doctors, Zhong lives by a simple motto (信條): save lives and always be honest. In 2003, when SARS hit China, he volunteered to treat patients and asked his colleagues (同事) to send their most serious cases to him. After months of work, his treatment plan for SARS was adopted (采 納) by China and then the whole world, saving thousands of lives, People’s Daily reported.
Zhong is also known for being an honest scholar. In 2003, when authorities (官方) said that the SARS virus was under control, he publicly refuted their claim. “I couldn’t help myself. I said it’s not all under control,” Zhong said in a later interview. His honesty won widespread praise from the Chinese public.
Back to the frontlines
Seventeen years later, Zhong is once again leading an expert team to study the novel coronavirus. Although this new virus is known to be more dangerous to the elderly, Zhong doesn’t seem worried about his own safety. On Jan 18, he took a high-speed train from Guangzhou to Wuhan. Two days later, he became the first expert to make certain that the new virus can be spread between humans. On January 29, he and his colleagues spent over four hours online checking five patients who were in serious condition. The next day, he chose the treatment for those patients. Under his guidance, his team developed a rapid test kit (快速檢測試劑盒) for the disease that can show results within 15 minutes.
As People’s Daily wrote, “the 84-year-old Zhong Nanshan shows his professionalism as a scholar, courage as a soldier, and a sense of duty as the backbone (脊梁) of our nation.”

【題目】請閱讀一篇有關(guān)“上海垃圾分類”的短文, 根據(jù)所提供的信息, 回答問題。
If you are in Shanghai and want to throw a cup of milk tea, be careful. You need to follow these steps: first, pour out any leftover( 殘留物) into a wet waste bin; second, put the paper wrapper into a recyclable waste bin; finally, throw the single-use cup and straw(吸管) into a dry waste bin.
Sound complex( 復(fù) 雜 的 ) ? You’ll have to get used to it. From July 1st,2019 on, people in Shanghai are required to sort(將…..分類) their garbage(垃圾) according to strict rules. Garbage is divided into wet garbage, toxic( 有 毒 的 )garbage and recyclable garbage. Many other cities in China are planning to create similar sorting rules.
Why should we sort our garbage? The answer lies in the increasing amount of waste we are producing. Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year, according to China Economic Net. Most of this waste is buried in landfills, which may pollute water and soil. Moreover, we are running out of space for new landfills.
In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable garbage can be made into new materials, while wet garbage can be used to make gas, heat and fertilizer(肥料). But in order to recycle efficiently(有效地), we need to sort our garbage.
Can't garbage-processing companies do the sorting job for us? They can. But that requires a lot of work and costs lots of money. Things will become much easier if each of us can sort our own garbage. Besides, the troublesome task of sorting might encourage people to produce less waste. Do you still want to buy that milk tea?

【題目】 Dean felt his arms and legs were burning. With each breath, Dean wondered if he should be done, but as he touched the wall at the end of the pool he turned for another lap (圈). "I can do one more. This is for Kevin,” Dean told himself. He was starting his seventh lap.
Dean and the other members of his swim team were swimming to raise money for Dean's best friend, Kevin Hawking. Earlier in the year, Kevin fell ill. He needed expensive medical care that his family couldn't afford. After Kevin's friends learned what was happening, they started brainstorming ways to help. Several of Kevin's friends were on the swim team, which led to the idea of swimming.

Finally, as Dean completed his tenth lap, he knew he was too tired to keep going. If I try another lap. I'll end up lying in the middle of the pool, waiting for someone to come and get me, he thought. Dean pulled himself up onto the edge of the pool and sat breathing quickly for a couple of minutes, quietly resting before he tried to stand.
Dean's father came over and said, "Wow, Dean," shaking his head in amazement, "I am so proud of you. That's farther than anyone else has swum today, and I know it's farther than you've ever swum before."
Dean stood up and slowly walked with his father back to the seats where the other swimmers sat next to Kevin. "Thank you," Kevin said.

【題目】You Can Make a Windsock(風筒)
Have you ever seen a windsock blowing in the wind? Well, you can make one of your own! This is a fun project that you can do with things you may have. You just need to follow a few easy steps.
You will need:
● one piece of heavy colored paper ● five ribbons
● strong tape ● a string
● a pencil
What to do:
Step 1: Draw pictures on the paper. You can write your name on it. Do anything that will make it special to you.
Step 2: Make the paper into the shape of a tube. Hold one of the shorter edges(邊緣) over the other. Then make them together with the tape at each end and in the middle.
Step 3: Use a pencil to make a hole into both sides of the tube. The holes should be only on one end of the tube. Pull the string through both holes. Then tie the ends of the string together.
Step 4: Now make five holes around the top of the other end of the tube. Put a ribbon through each of the holes. Tie a knot in the ends. Make sure the knots are bigger than the holes.
Now your windsock is ready to use, but how does it work? The shape of the tube plays an important part. Wind blows through the tube and makes it fly and dance around.
