Ben and his brother were both students in a middle school. Ben worked hard but he was not doing well at school. Boys in his class made jokes (開玩笑) about him because he was so slow.

His mother was worried about them. She made a plan to get her son to do better at school. She told them to go to the City Public Library to read a book a week and do a book report.

One day, in Ben’s class, the teacher showed a picture of space. She asked “Who knows about it?” Ben put up his hand and the teacher let him answer. “Why did Ben put up his hand?” “He never said anything.” “What could he want to say?” his classmates thought.

Well, in fact, Ben knew about the space and he could also say a lot about it. He named many stars and even knew how we can watch them. The teacher and the students were surprised (驚訝). Ben learned all these from doing book reports. Ben later went to the top of his class.

After Ben finished high school, he went to Yale University (耶魯大學) and at last became one of the best doctors in the USA. He learned a lot from his mother. What a great mother!
