It's important to learn about protecting our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us:
1.Reduce
If you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely. Millions of trees are being cut down to make paper. If everyone uses a little paper carelessly and throw it out, soon we would not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people don't know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to reduce the waste
2.Reuse
You should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them out. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. With a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.
3. Recycle
Bottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By doing so, we save lots of time and money. For example, coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat(壓平)and melted(融化)and the melted things are made for new coke cans.
4.Recover
When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten(腐爛的)apples, You have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food.
5. Repair
If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it instead of throwing it away. If you want to change for better ones, It is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repair. It is true that North America is a "throw-away" society(社會(huì)).But the time has come to change our way of life so that we can protect our environment. Every one of us should try our best.
【小題1】_______can be recycled.

A.Only hard things B.Many thingsC.Few soft thingsD.A11 things
【小題2】The "recover' rule mainly requires us_______.
A.to throw waste things awayB.to cover waste things with earth
C.to get back the useful partsD.to throw the whole things away
【小題3】We can infer(推斷)that the writer of this passage may live in_______.
A.ChinaB.JapanC.AustraliaD.America
【小題4】Which of the following is true?
A.We will have no resources(資源)of nature unless we can do with the waste.
B.Recycling is the best way to save resources.
C.If we waste less, we can save more resources of nature

Like many people, I have no clear idea about heroes. At some point, we all wonder if we need a hero and what a hero really is.
Although there are a lot of differences in cultures, heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics (特點(diǎn)) which give us courage and make us want to learn from them.
A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a special story to tell and people think highly of it. But a hero is not just the person with great fame (聲譽(yù)) .
A hero has powers (力量) larger than himself. Some people want to live like a hero, and they have to experience life with new and further meaning. A sure test for would-be heroes is what or whom they serve. What do they want to live and die for? If the answer suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not heroes.
A hero has a vision from the mountaintop. He has the power to move people. He creates new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of Britain. Without Martin Luther King, Jr., Americans might take different buses, eat in different restaurants, go for walks in different parks, and shop in different stores because of the different colors of their skin.
There might be changes in society without a hero, but the speed of change would be rather slow. Thanks to heroes in history, they make the society develop so rapidly.
【小題1】According to this passage, a hero is a person who always __________.

A.gives us courageB.thinks highly of others
C.shares great fameD.stands on the mountaintop
【小題2】If you want to live like a hero, you should __________.
A.experience a new and meaningful life
B.listen to something worth talking about

【小題3】The underlined word “vision” in the passage means “__________”.
A.風(fēng)景B.想象
C.遠(yuǎn)見D.形象
【小題4】 Black people in America used to __________ before Martin Luther King, Jr..
A.shop at the white’s stores
B.drive buses with the white
C.take walks in the white’s parks
D.eat in restaurants without the white
【小題5】 What can we learn from the passage?
A.We don’t need heroes anymore at some point now.
B.Heroes are all the same though different in cultures.
C.People get power from heroes to move to a new place.
D.Our society has developed faster because of heroes in history.
