李密,字玄避,又字法主,他的先人是遼東襄平人。李密見識雄闊高遠,做事富有謀略。他常分散自己的家產(chǎn)來供養(yǎng)賓客,對那些有才能的人以禮相待,一點也不吝惜。他聽說包皚在緱山,就前去追隨他。李密用蒲墊墊在牛背上,騎牛前往,在牛角上掛著一卷《漢書》,邊走邊讀。越圖公楊素恰好在路上遇見了他,勒住馬悄悄地跟在后面,說:“你是哪里的書生,這樣勤奮?”李密認識楊素,連忙下牛拜見,楊素問他讀的是什么書,他回答說:“《項羽傳》!睏钏鼐秃退钠饋,很看重他。楊素回家后對兒子玄感說:“我看李密的見識氣度,不是你們這些人能比得上的。”玄感于是仰慕李密并與他結交。
