He did this three more times before a department store12, thinking him mad, removed him from the store. But rather than be13, the old man departed with a huge smile on his face. Although the incident was14, it was not until a year later, during my first year of university, that I gave it any further15. I walked into my language classroom and met my professor. It was that very same man.

Towards the end of the baseball game, a controversial call was given. At full speed Paul Harvey slid home(本壘)and, thinking he had just1 a game-changing run, he stood up only to face the words, “You’re2!”
Angry, he threw off his helmet and ran over to explain to the3 why the call was wrong. Before his4 really got out of control, someone pulled him away, and he walked to the bench---5.
Long after the coaches, players, and fans had gone home, he realized the impact of his6. Like most of us do when we are faced with the7 of our actions, he could have just let it go, reasoning, “Everybody8 it.”
However, in the silence of his heart, he knew that just9 everyone else does it, that doesn’t make it all right. And so, long after his friends had gone home, he10 that coach back up to the school—not to11 his car. No, the boy tracked this man down so he could tell him face to face, “I’m sorry, Sir. It was all my12.”
It takes true courage to stand up to face the13 we all make and say, “I was wrong. I’m sorry.” What makes this14 unique is that it wasn’t meant for the world to15, it was meant simply as a way to stay16 to his own heart.
The truth is at one time or another we have all been this boy ---17 out in anger, saying hurtful things, and feeling18 for doing so. But the real test comes later when we are19 with the choice to say “sorry” or to walk away thinking, “Ah, they’11 get over it.”
Maybe the “they” is a customer, a friend, or a child. Whoever it is, don’t pass up the opportunity to get right with your own heart. The time for apology is now! Courage is a20 of the heart.

科目: 來源: 題型:完形填空

I had my first job at the age of thirteen, when a friend of my mother’s who owned a book shop1me for six hours a week to help her in the shop. I was very2to earn my own pocket money and my parents3interfered with how I spent it, even when I was spending it4. They believed that by earning money, spending it, and learning from the5, I would become more mature and6 about how to handle work, relationships with others, and money.
Like many7parents, my parents also let me and my brothers do things over which they8a great deal. When I was sixteen, for example, after I finished high school and before I entered university, I wanted to spend the summer months traveling around9. My mother was against the idea of my traveling alone at such a young age, but my father felt that it would be a great10for me. In the end, my father won the11on the condition that I limited my traveling to France, my mother’s home, where I had many uncles, aunts and cousins12through the country who could13shelter and help if I needed them.
Three years later, my younger brother decided to14a year off after his first year in university and travel through the United States and the Caribbean. Again my mother was very worried and not15to see my brother leave school, but my father encouraged him and my brother had a(n)16year working his way on trains and ships to17passage to different ports and cities, and discovering many fascinating places and people.
These kinds of experiences are probably rare for children in many countries but in the US they are fairly18. Most parents start19their children at a young age to do small things by themselves. By the time they have finished high school, many American kids have already had part-time jobs, traveled around the US or other countries on their own, have20the university they plan to attend and maybe even decided on their future career, and so on.
