If you are human, you can’t help but experience times when everything seems to be going wrong and you feel as if your life is completely out of control. It is during those “down times” that words of encouragement from family, friends, co-workers or even strangers can lighten your spirits. It is also during those times that destructive words can sink you deeper and deeper into depression.
For example, consider this story about a group of frogs who were traveling through the woods when two of them fell into a deep pit (坑). All of the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two unfortunate frogs they would never get out.
The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump out of the pit. The other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs took heed of what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain. The more they shouted, the harder he jumped and finally he made it to safety.
When he got out, the other frogs asked him why he continued to jump when they were all shouting at him to simply quit. The frog explained to them that he was a little bit deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.
Every time you have a chance to say either something positive or negative to another human being, do choose the chance to say something positive! Don’t let those opportunities get away from you. Your words have a large amount of power. Use them wisely. You really never know just how much they can mean to someone else.

Oprah Winfrey, the queen of American daytime talk TV, is considered one of the most powerful women in the world. Now, after 25 years’ hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, the star has announced she is calling it quits.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the move “signals the beginning of the decline for the daytime talk show.” More women are working full-time jobs, and people are turning to cable (有線(xiàn)電視) and pre-recorded shows for their entertainment.
It may be that Oprah isn’t quitting so much as moving on. She has created the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and will most likely move her show to the network. If audiences around the world need Oprah, they well know where to look.
Oprah Winfrey was born to a single teenage mother in a small town in rural Mississippi, US. As a child, she lived with poverty and abuse. But she got a job at a local radio station, where her honesty, emotional style won her many fans. She quickly rose through the ranks of radio and television before launching her own production company and starting her own show.
Oprah’s talk show was not the first of its kind, but it quickly became the best and most popular. It made talk shows popular, and others jumped in to start similar shows. But while other talk shows turned ugly, featuring guests who argued and attacked each other with chairs, Oprah rose above the mess.
“Part of her power lies in the fact that her life story resonates (產(chǎn)生共鳴) with her audience, as a kind of version of the American dream,” writes Kevin Connolly, a reporter with the BBC.
She became a star because of the way she opened up about her problems to her audience. She shared her own struggles with relationships and weight. She focused on self-help. Connolly believes “something in her honesty and her sometimes painfully emotional directness struck home with a certain type of American”.
60. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. The stop of Oprah’s show reflects the decrease of audience.
B. Oprah hosted her show for about 25 years.
C. American talk show was pioneered by Oprah.
D. Oprah used to be a radio presenter.
61. What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. Oprah could deal with the guests fighting very well.
B. Oprah’s show stood out with her unique style.
C. Oprah turned a deaf ear to other people’s quarrel.
D. Oprah’s fame rose because lots of people watch her show.
62. From Kevin Connolly, we know people like Oprah’s show for all the reasons EXCEPT ________.
A. Oprah always shares people’s life stories in her show
B. the audiences are touched by Oprah’s honesty and frankness
C. Oprah’s life story reflects the truth of American dream
D. some audiences are inspired by Oprah’s show
63. According to the text, Oprah ________.
A. always volunteers to help those who need help
B. has practiced presentational skills since she was young
C. believes that one should rely on himself to solve problems
D. calls on women to work full-time jobs

There were times when it was only schoolchildren who felt sick before they got their grades.
71
Many teachers are opposed to it. They don’t mind being evaluated. But they are upset because the results are then being posted on the Internet and accessible to millions of Internet users. 72 The teachers are graded on categories such as “motivated”, “good instruction”, “easy examinations”, or even “sexy”. 73
The creators of the website say that the students are only being offered the chance to provide teachers with some feedback(反饋)about their classroom instruction. Bernd Dicks founded the website with three friends. 74 On a grading scale of one to six, the teachers’ average grade is as high as 2.7 and it has been improving lately. He often says the impression is that students are bullying(欺負(fù))their teachers. But there is also bullying of the students by teachers.
“Teachers must also learn to live with criticism,” he added. But still, the website is not totally prevented from being manipulated(人為操縱), as one teacher near the northern city of Hanover recently proved. 75 Within a few days, seven of his colleagues were listed in the top 10 rankings of Germany’s best teachers.
On the website www. spickmich. De during the past four months students have posted evaluations of 100,000 teachers.
A.He registered himself on the website as a student and then rated his own teaching colleagues highly.
B.Many teachers think that their privacy has been disturbed.
C.But now teachers in Germany are scared, too, as they are being graded by their students.
D.He says that the students are largely quite satisfied with their teachers.
E.He says a majority of the students expressed their dissatisfaction with their teachers.
F.He tried to make friends with students as many as possible.
