Most 23-year-olds have not done enough in life to be worthy of having their own documentary(紀(jì)錄片)

  Most 23-year-olds aren't LeBron James.

The NBA superstar, who recently won gold at the Beijing Olympics, has just released More Than a Game. It is a documentary that follows his rise to stardom (明星地位) and how he and four childhood friends overcame long odds to win a national championship in high school.

Combining footage (鏡頭) taken during James' career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, US, along with one-on-one interviews by writer/director Kris Belman, home videos, and personal family photographs, the film is about much more than basketball. At its core (核心) is a story of friendship, loyalty and love.

"We set out with a goal as kids and we wanted to accomplish that someway, somehow by using basketball as a tool, not knowing that it was going to create other opportunities for us," James said. "We didn't know it was going to create a brotherhood and trust. We grew from kids into young men."

While James is the star, his former teammates, Dru Joyce III, Sian Cotton, Willie McGee and Romeo Travis, play a major role in the film.

Their journey began together as 8-year-old boys, winds through years traveling all over America playing in basketball tournaments and finishes in their senior season at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

At the time, Belman was a college film student. He set out to film James and his friends' season as his final school project, a 10-minute documentary. But after gaining the trust of the players and coach Dru Joyce, Belman spent two months filming and eventually teamed with producer Harvey Mason Jr to the full-length feature.

James hopes the film will inspire youngsters (年輕人).

"We set out with a goal when we were eight and we accomplished it when we were 18," he said. "It's a great story and I wanted to get it out to kids that have a dream, that they should continue to go after it, believe in it and live it if they want to accomplish something."

A Good Teacher is a Strict Teacher

One of the most important parts in the healthy development of a

child is played by education. But the way in which education is

understood has changed completely, as we must not forget that

the severe and unfeeling way of bringing up a child in the past

was primarily based on cruel grounding(基礎(chǔ))and strict

rules that were supposed to create accomplished individuals, the typical gentlemen. Nowdays,

society is much more open-minded and it does not put a great value on being strict, although this

doesn’t mean that opinions regarding this subject do not differ.

On the one hand, there are also people who believe that there has got to be a bound between

teacher and student if any satisfying results are awaited. Luckily for us, more and more teachers are

understanding this fact and are doing their best to get over the strict rules and get in touch with us.

My opinion is that only by having a friendly attitude and accepting other opinions, especially

those of your pupils, you are truly able to do your job at high standards. However, this does not

mean that a teacher shouldn’t be a bit more rough when he feels that things are getting out of hand.

All in all, I must say that a good teacher is the teacher that has the ability to be kind and strict at the

same time, thus achieving to gain his students respect and interest.

The aim of education in the past was to      .

       A.create perfect persons      B.create open-minded persons

       C.bring up a child              D.build a cruel grounding

According to the passage, the narrow-minded people think      .

A.a(chǎn) pupil is always interested in what he is learning

B.a(chǎn) pupil himself will improve his studies

C.children should be made to study

       D.children don’t like a rough hand

The underlined word “job” in the last paragraph can be replaced by      .

       A.controlling       B.teaching    C.learning    D.punishing

The author thinks a good teacher should be     .

A.kind and strict         B.skilled and clever

C.rough and cruel              D.friendly and practical

It can be inferred from the passage that       .

A.society is much more open-minded and being strict is out date

B.a(chǎn)s long as the teachers are strict with students, the students will certainly get good marks

C.most people are in favor of strict teachers because they have strict grounding and strict rules

D.if we expect students to develop in a healthy way, the good relationship between teachers and students is important

Everyone knows you must exercise regularly to keep good health. Indeed, staying physically fit is a big part of our culture. we consider(or rightly so)that healthy people are attractive people. Since most of us want to be attractive, there is no shortage of exercise clubs, training videos, magazines and books offering to help us stay physically fit.

Unfortunately, however, our culture doesn’t place the same emphasis on mental fitness. Although we tend to like men and women with strong, healthy-looking bodies, we don’t have the same degree of respect or attraction for smart, educated, mentally healthy people. This is a pity, because there are great rewards for people who have developed the ability to think well.

If your mind is well trained and flexible, you will be able to understand a great deal of what happens around you. And if you are also well educated --- that is, if you understand basic science, mathematics, music, art, literature, history and so on --- you will find it much easier to make good decisions throughout your life. Over the long run, this leads to a sense of control over your destiny and a much better life than otherwise.

People who are poorly educated or who don’t think well --- that is, people who are not mentally fit --- see things differently. Their world is controlled by mysterious, often malevolent(惡意的)forces. Such people live within a system they will never master, forced to follow rules they will never understand. Although it may not be obvious, most spend their lives being manipulated(控制)by others. They are told what to do, what to think, how to spend their money, and what they should and should not aspire(渴望)to in life.

In my opinion, if you want to live well, you must be able to use your mind well. For this reason, I want you to be able to concentrate, to solve problems, to understand complex ideas, and to think clearly and quickly. Such skills will make it easier for you to make informed decisions, understand current events, choose good friends, manage your money well, make wise lone-term decisions and appreciate music, art and literature.

The key to developing such skills is to enjoy learning, and to have the ability and motivation to teach yourself.

    68. The writer of the passage feel disappointed that ____.

      A. too little has been done to help people to keep physically fit

      B. too much has been done to help people to keep physically fit

      C. mentally healthy people are not as popular as physically healthy people

      D. physically healthy people are not as popular as mentally healthy people

    69. The underlined word “this” in the 3rd paragraph means ____.

      A. the understanding of a great deal of what goes on around you

      B. the understanding of basic science and mathematics

      C. good training in body and mind

      D. being able to make good decisions in life

    70. The writer of this passage thinks those who are not mentally fit ____.

      A. live a poor and mysterious life   B. can’t control over their life

      C. often do what others do          D. enjoy being fooled and ruled

    71. The best title of the passage will most probably be ____.

      A. Train Your Body                    B. Train Your Mind

      C. Make Informed Decisions        D. Think Hard and Work Hard
