All people have dreams and they obey the rule that if you can dream it, you can achieve it!Here are
four goals for people to reach a perfect life in their future.
The first goal common to all of us is health and energy. We all want to be healthy and fit, to have high
levels of energy and to live free of pain and illness. Today, with the incredible advance in medical science,
the quality of our health and fitness, and our lifespan is largely determined by design, not by chance. People with excellent health habits are far healthier, have more energy, and live longer and better than people
who have poor health habits. Remember that health is not everything, but without health everything is
nothing!
The second goal that we all have in common is to enjoy excellent relationships-intimate, personal or
social-with the people we like and respect, and who in turn. Fully 85% of your happiness will be
determined by the quality of your relationships at each stage, and in each area, of your life. How well you
get along with people, and how much they like and respect you, have more impact on the quality of your
life than perhaps any other factor.
The third common goal is to do work that we enjoy, to do it well, and to be well paid for it. You want
to be able to get and keep the job you want, to get paid more and promoted(晉升)faster. You want to
earn the very most that is possible for you at each stage of your career, whatever you do
.
The fourth goal we all have in common is to achieve financial independence. You want to reach the
point in life where you have enough money so that you never have any financial worries. You want to be
completely free of them. You want to be able to order dinner in a restaurant without referring to the price
listings to determine what you want to eat.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpiece
written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. The story line
is simple.  The book is like a biography (自傳)  of a summer in
Tom Sawyer's life.
Tom Sawyer is a smart but naughty young boy living in the
small town on the Mississippi River. He is an orphan and lives
with his aunt. He has many clever ideas, but doesn't like school,
and always likes to escape the school to fish. Tom has a trusted
friend,Huck Finn, who few of the adults approve of. Tom Sawyer
and Finn have great adventures on the Mississippi River,
pretending to be pirates, attending their own funeral, and
witnessing a murder. Tom overcomes fear and appears in court and
speaks out the murderer. He and his friends finally discover a lot
of treasures and they become millionaires...
Mark Twain's writing was based on his own childhood and his
personal experience. What makes this story great is that Tom
Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. It is a
story filled with action, adventure, ingenious (巧妙的)  ideas, love,
and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication
of what Twain did or wishes he did during his childhood.
The book is a little difficult to read at first. Perhaps,it will
take you a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the
book. But on the whole, the book is an enjoyable read for people of
all ages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking forward
to feeling young again.
1.Which of the following doesn't fit in with Tom?
A. He often escapes the school.
B. He has a trusted friend.
C. He is a good student.
D. Both of his parents died when he was young.
2. According to the passage, the story is concerned with the  following things EXCEPT _____   .
A. love
B. schoolyard politics
C. action
D. power
3. The author's purpose of writing this passage is to ____.
A. let readers know Mark Twain
B. remind people of their childhood
C. tell the story of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
D. recommend the book to others
4. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Tom Sawyer prefers fishing to going to school.
B. The story is about Mark Twain's personal experience.
C. There is 19th century dialect in the book.
D. The whole story represents what Twain did or wishes he did during his childhood.

The climate of any place is the kind of weather. It usually has
over a long period of time. The houses we live in, the clothes we wear,
and the food we eat depend on the climate of the place where we live.
Climate is a pattern that is not nearly as simple as we think,
and it is affected by many factors. The distance to the North or
South Pole or to the equator really matters a lot. If you live near
either of the poles, you live in a cold climate, for the place where
you live does not get as much or as direct sunshine as a place
farther away from the poles. In places close to the equator, the
climate is very hot, for they are the parts where the sun shines
almost straight down.
Whether rain or snow falls makes a great difference to the
climate. In hot, dry deserts, little rain falls, but in a hot rainforest,
the amount (數(shù)量) of rainfalls is far larger than that in a desert, for
there is a heavy rain almost every day, even several times per day.
Though a rainforest and a desert may be the same distance from the
equator, their climates are rather different from each other.
How much rain or snow falls is considered by some to be
determined by the winds, the surrounding mountains and the
currents (水流) in nearby seas and so on. In short, it is a very
complex natural phenomenon.
1. This passage mainly talks about   ____.
A. weather
B. different climates
C. climate and its determining factors
D. the difference between weather and climate
2. From this passage, we know climate and weather are ____ and climate is ____.
A. almost the same; the general term of weather
B. quite different; the average weather conditions at a particular place over a period of time
C. not the same; included by weather
D. very much alike; bigger and weather is smaller
3. The climates between a tropical(熱帶的) desert and a tropical rainforest are different in ____   .
A. the amount of rainfalls
B. the winds and the surrounding mountains
C. the currents in nearby seas
D. how much sunshine the two different places can get
4. From the context, we can guess that the word "complex" means ____   .

Break-a week-long school vacation in the United States. But what if you're a student
and don't have enough money for a trip? Don't worry. Here are some useful suggestions.
●Save: This probably is the most important preparation for traveling. Cut expenses to
fatten your wallet so you'll have more choices about where to go and how to get there.

go to a less-known area. Smaller towns can have many interesting activities and sights.
●Pack necessary things: The most important things to take are not always clothes. Remember
medicine in case you get sick and snacks in case you cannot find a cheap restaurant.

You wake up in the morning, the day is beautiful and the
plans for the day are what you have been looking forward to for
a long time. Then the telephone rings, you say hello, and the
drama starts. The person on the other end has a depressing
tone in his voice as he starts to tell you how terrible his
morning is and that there is nothing to look forward to. You are
still in a wonderful mood? Impossible!
Communicating with negative people can wash out your
happiness. It may not change what you think, but
communicating long enough with them will make you feel
depressed for a moment or a long time.
Life brings ups and downs, but some people are stuck in
the wrong idea that life has no happiness to offer. They only
feel glad when they make others feel bad. No wonder they can
hardly win others' pity or respect.
When you communicate with positive people, your spirit
stays happy and therefore more positive things are attracted.
When the dagger(匕首)of a negative person is put in you,you
feel the heavy feeling that all in all, brings you down.
Sometimes we have no choice but to communicate with
negative people. This could be a co-worker,or a relative. In this
case, say what needs to be said as little as possible. Sometimes
it feels good to let out your anger back to the negative person,
but all this does is to lower you to that same negative level and
they won't feel ashamed of themselves about that.
Negativity often affects happiness without even being
realized. The negative words of another at the start of the day
can cling to(附著) you throughout the rest of your day, which
makes you feel bad and steals your happiness. Life is too short
to feel negative. Stay positive and avoid negativity as much as
possible.

A. By influencing our emotion.
B. By telling us the nature of life.
C. By changing our ways of thinking.

3. Some negative people base their happiness on ___   .
