No one has enough, but everyone has all there is. We each have just twenty-four hours in a day. Time
is not our problems , but what we do with the limited time we have is the issue. Many people spend their
days on dozens of activities , but achieve very little because they aren't concentrating on right things. The
Pareto Principle, also known as the 80:20 Rule shows us that typically eighty per cent of unfocused effort
generates only twenty percent of the results. The remaining eighty per cent of the results are achieved
with only twenty percent of the effort . To effectively manage your time, you need to change where you
are spending your time. We all have the same amount of time every day. How you spend your time is
how you spend your life. Here are time management strategies, which may be helpful.
     Learn to say no
Politely say no should become a habit. Saying no frees up time for the things that are most important.
     Make a "to-do" list
List the tasks that need to be done in order of their importance. Save other less important things for
when you have time.
Minimize interruption
Plan ahead. Think through projects. Look for ways to "block" interruptions. For example, close your
door, don't answer the phone or work in a different space.
Combine several activities
Try to do several activities at one time. While going to school, listen to taped notes. This allows up to an
hour or two a day of good study review. While showering, make a mental list of the things. Above all,be
creative, and let it work for you.

1. According to the Pareto Principle, we can know that_________.

A. people can't achieve a lot even though they concentrate on right things

C. people are certain to succeed if they spend twenty per cent of their time
D. eighty per cent of effort spent on one matter is useless

Paul, the oracle octopus (神算章魚), was given a replica (復(fù)制品) of the World Cup as a reward
for his perfect eight-for-eight record in predicting the results of matches.
The two-year-old octopus with possible supernatural powers turned into a worldwide celebrity for
accurately predicting the German team's five World Cup wins as well as their two defeats. Paul also
tipped Spain to beat Netherlands in the final.
"We have had a lot of offers for Paul but he will definitely be staying with us and returning to his usual
job-making children smile," Sea Life spokeswoman Tanja Munzig in Oberhausen said after presenting
Pual with the World Cup replica.
There's no rational(合理的)reasons why Paul always got it right. Bettors around the world made
small fortunes based on Paul's guess, said Graham Sharpe, media relations director at William Hill in
London. "I've seen a lot of things in my lifetime but this is the first time I've ever seen people making their
picks based on what an octopus tells them. We had people coming in saying they didn't know how to
place a bet but heard about this German octopus and wanted to bet with him. It's funny. But he kept

Then where does it come from? Is it from a ghost? No, this isn't a ghost kitchen-it's the kitchen of the

Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses
with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on.
Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to
walk on the country roads in their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at
school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking
good care of your life and your health; when you get a success, your friends will say congratulations to
you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do
something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of
them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness doesn't mean money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say
you are very happy, because you have something that can't be bought with money. When you meet with
difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋轉(zhuǎn)的)door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every
chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

1. When you do something wrong , people around you will     .

A. quarrel with you
B. help you correct it
C. do something wrong like you
D. laugh at you

2. What will your friends say when you make great progress?

A. Oh, so do I
B. Congratulations!
C. Good luck!
D. Just so-so

3. The passage mainly tells us      .

A. parents always care for our life and health
B. we're not happy if we meet with difficulties
C. happiness is always around us
D. life is colorful
