Today while walking past the train station, I notice two young men carrying some huge bag. They were consulting a map and seemed confused, so I asked them who they were looking for. They were looking for an address that wasn't easy to find it, and it happened to being the same way l was going. However, I helped them with one of the bags and walked with them until we found the rightly house. We had nice talk and l was told that they had come all the way from French. They were very grateful for me, and I felt very happy.

So letters sent to Santa Claus find their way to the small town of the North Pole deep in Alaska, including those simply sent to Santa. Last year, 120,000 letters arrived from 26 countries, not including the thousands with no return addresses.

Those who have return addresses usually get a reply and a North Pole postmark (郵戳) that has delighted children all over the world for many years. They feel happy to receive Santa’s reply.

Letters arrive all the year around in the town of 1,600, where streets have names such as Santa Claus Lane and Kris Kringle Drive. Around Thanksgiving, they start getting there by the thousands each day as Christmas comes. Even letters without stamps get through, an exception for the U. S. Postal Service.

“This is special because it has Santa’s name on it,” said Debra Cornelius, an officer at the main post office in nearby Fairbanks, where the letters are kept during the holiday.

Gabby Gaborik is among several dozen volunteers who are busy sending off replies to children who sent return addresses.

In his 10 years as a volunteer, Gaborik has seen every kind of wish. There are children who want the latest toys they see on TV. There are children who ask for miracles, some wanting their mother back for Christmas or their father back from Iraq, even though he died there.

Replies get a North Pole postmark, including a drawing of Santa’s face. Even late letters get a reply, Gaborik said, “It says something like ‘Thanks for writing. Santa’s been really busy,’ anything the children might want to hear,” he said.

Mr. Czapp visited the New Forest Wildlife Park to capture images of new arrival Jessie. Jessie is a lovely little fox. She has been at the animal park in Ashurst, Hampshire—home to wolves, deer and others in 25 acres of ancient woodland after being abandoned by her mother.

Mr. Czapp said, “Jessie was very playful and curious and not shy at all in front of the camera. Soon after I arrived she was chewing my shoes and everything seemed to be a game to her. As my mother and father were always busy working, so I was often at home by myself. I felt boring all the time and I felt sorry for myself. One day, in my way home from school, I saw a person living in the park. He was wearing dirty but worn-out clothes. He gave me a big smile when he saw me. He looked if he was the happiest man in the world. Looked at him, I realized how luckily I really was. I have enough food to eat and enough clothes to wear and I had hard-working parents who really cared about him. I realized what grateful I was to my parents for all that I had.
