Many people believe that that dogs should not be kept in large cities. They say that pet dogs should be banned because they are dangerous to man since they carry diseases and that they attack people especially young children.__ 【1】__ For example, they eat large quantities of food that could go to feed the poor and the starving of the world. What’s more , many people spend large amounts of money on their dogs ,even buying them beds and toys, taking them to doctors when they are sick ,burying them in pet cemeteries when they die. 【2】_
However I disagree with these arguments.many animals carry diseases than dogs .In fact people carry more diseases than dogs._ 【3】_ And if they are it is because they have attacked or frightened the dog. As for money spent on dogs , what people do with their money is their own business..Finally there will always be the poor in the world .
Let us now look at why dogs are good animals. 【4】__ They can also help the police to search for drugs and explosives(炸藥).In addition, dogs are able to save people’s lives after an earthquake when they are buried under fallen buildings. What’s more, dogs are used to protect property(財產(chǎn)) as well as woman and children. __【5】__
For all these reasons I believe that pet dogs should not be banned from cities.
A. They are used by the police to catch criminals(罪犯).
B. What’s more, very few people are attacked by dogs.
C. Finally dogs are used to guide the blind in the streets.
D. Some owners even leave them their money when they die

【4】A
【5】C

As with any house guests, indoor plants require a certain amount of basic, regular attention if they are going to feel at home. The first consideration when purchasing plants is to make reasonably sure that they are suitable for the condition in which they are going to be housed.
A general rule for most plants being brought indoors for the first time is to ensure that they have reasonable temperature of not less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, a position out of cold air, safe from pets and not exposed to strong sunlight.
Plants love company. When plants are growing together, they create an atmosphere of damp around themselves which is far more beneficial than hot dry conditions. A group of plants will also present a more pleasing picture and provide an opportunity for a creative arrangement. There is no secret to this. Just rely on your natural feeling for harmony.
Watering and feeding plants are probably the two areas of care that are the least well understood, but, again, if you follow a few simple rules, your plants should do well. Cold slightly warm water is therefore the answer. It is usually better to pour water on to the soil on the surface of the pot rather than put the water into the pot holder at the bottom. Avoid giving small amount of water at regular intervals- it is much better to wet the soil right through the pot in one go and then to allow it to dry noticeably before giving it a further watering.
The majority of indoor plants will be in active growth from March until October, and during this time, the established ones will benefit from regular feeding. This may mean feeding with a weak liquid fertilizer(肥料) at each watering or at intervals of a week or ten days with fertilizer at a standard strength. It is important, however, to ensure that plants are not fed when growth is inactive, when the soil in the pot is dry, or too soon after the plants has been potted up.
【1】In Paragraph 2, the author mainly tells us to___________.
A. buy plants that help clean indoor air
B. create a new environment with plants
C. put plants on the sunny side of the room
D. make sure of suitable conditions for plants
【2】What’s the benefit of plants growing together?
A. It provides owners good company.
B. It makes it convenient to look after them.
C. It helps the air around them slightly wet.
D. It allows owners to draw a pleasant picture.
【3】While watering the plants, what should we remember to do?
A. Use water that is a little warm.
B. Pour the water into the pot holder.
C. Give small amount of water at one time.
D. Consider further watering in wet weather.
【4】What is the best time to feed the plants?
A. When the soil is dry.
B. When the temperature is high.
C. When their growth is active.
D. When they have just been planted.

【題目】Many Americans are turning to Japan, they think, a country of high academic(學術(shù)的) achievement and economic success, for possible answers. However, the answers provided by Japanese preschools are not the ones Americans expected to find. In most Japanese preschools, surprisingly little emphasis is put on academic instruction. In one survey, 300 Japanese and 210 American preschool teachers, child development specialists, and parents were asked about various aspects of early childhood education. Only 2 percent of the Japanese respondents(答問卷者)listed “to give children a good start academically” as one of their top three reasons for a society to have preschools. In contrast, over half the American respondents chose this as one of their top three choices. To prepare children for successful careers in first grade and beyond, Japanese schools do not teach reading, writing, and mathematics, but rather skills such as determination, concentration, and the ability to work as a member of a group. The huge majority of young Japanese children are taught to read at home by their parents.
Like in America, there is diversity(多樣性) in Japanese early childhood education. Some Japanese kindergartens have specific aims, such as early musical training or potential(潛力的) development. In large cities, some kindergartens are attached to universities that have elementary and secondary schools. Some Japanese parents believe that if their young children attend a university-based program, it will increase the children’s chances of eventually being admitted to top-rated schools and universities. Several more progressive programs have introduced free play as a way out for the heavy intellectualizing in some Japanese kindergartens.
【1】We learn from the first paragraph that many Americans believe ________.
A. Japanese preschool education emphasizes academic instruction
B. Japanese parents are more involved in preschool education than American parents
C. Japan’s economic success is a result of its scientific achievements
D. Japan’s higher education is superior to theirs
【2】In Japan’s preschool education, the focus is on ________.
A. preparing children academically
B. shaping children’s character
C. teaching children mathematics
D. developing children’s artistic interests
【3】Why do some Japanese parents send their children to university-based kindergartens?
A. They can do better in their future studies.
B. They can make more group experience grow there.
C. They can be individually oriented when they grow up.
D. They can have better chances of getting a first-rate education.
【4】Free play has been introduced in some Japanese kindergartens in order to ________.
A. broaden children’s knowledge
B. train children’s creativity
C. lighten children’s study load
D. enrich children’s experience
