36.E 根據(jù)E選項(xiàng)  these life lessons中指示代詞these"指代上文提到的人或物也可引出將要提及的人或物"可知"這些生活道理"即指前面一句中…working hard,experiencing failure,and valuing people"努力奮斗,經(jīng)歷失敗和珍視他人",也引出了下文的小標(biāo)題Simplify Your Work,Live in the Present,Work Towards the Impossible,Value People.
38.F 根據(jù)此部分的小標(biāo)題Live in the Present"活在當(dāng)下"可知,F(xiàn)選項(xiàng)的句意"你唯一能夠得到保障的時(shí)光就在此時(shí)此刻."right now,at this moment與the present相呼應(yīng).故選F.
39.C 根據(jù)橫線前面一句中的it seems ridiculous"別人認(rèn)為荒謬的"與C選項(xiàng)中g(shù)o beyond what others think is reasonable"打破別人眼中的常規(guī)"兩句中的ridiculous(荒謬的)與reasonable(合理的)相對(duì)應(yīng).
Show them that you value them."展示你對(duì)他們的重視",可通過(guò)"從繁忙的工作中抽出一些時(shí)間與他人不受干擾地交流"來(lái)實(shí)現(xiàn)和體現(xiàn).故選A.

3.After a terrible electrical accident, which caused him to become both blind and deaf, the whole world became completely dark and quiet for Robert Edwards for almost ten years. The loss of sight and hearing threw him into such sorrow that he tried a few times to put an end to his life. His family, especially his wife, did their best to tend and comfort him and finally he regained the will to live.
One hot summer afternoon,he was taking a walk with a stick near his house when a thunderstorm started all at once.He stood under a large tree to avoid getting wet,but he was struck by the lightning.Witnesses thought he was dead but he woke up some 20 minutes later lying face down in muddy water at the base of the tree.He was trembling badly, but when he opened his eyes,he could hardly believe what he saw:a plough and a wall. When Mrs.Edwards came running up to him, shouting to their neighbors to call for help,he could see her and hear her voice for the first time in nearly ten years.
The news of Robert regaining his sight and hearing quickly spread, and many doctors came to examine him. Most of them said that he regained his sight and hearing from the shock he got from the lightning. However, none of them could give a convincing answer as to why this should have happened. The only reasonable explanation given by one doctor was that, since Robert lost his sight and hearing as a result of a sudden shock, perhaps, the only way for him to regain them was by another sudden shock.

I am not a girl who will scream “Hello” across the street if I see someone familiar, nor will I meet with a complete stranger and begin a conversation. Instead, I will just laugh lightly. I would rather the other person spoke while I listen attentively. I can’t face the fact that I’m such a girl.

After a week---long vacation, we the tenth grade students returned to school. I reached the center of the hallway where my friend was waiting for me. Coming across a bulletin(公告), I saw some letters—Poetry Slam(詩(shī)歌朗誦賽). I told my friend how interesting the event sounded. I had heard of the event before, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone. Soon my friend and I , along with twenty other brave ones, planned to take part in the poetry slam.

When the day finally arrived, I still thought I couldn’t do this. As the lights dimmed(變暗), students all sat down. I crossed my arms over my chest as my feet shook. Poets, seated in the first two rows, all held their heads high and were practicing words for he poetry slam.

“Next is Katrina with Unspoken.” Shocked back into reality, I couldn’t move. I had to gather courage and remember I had chosen what to say, how to say it, and most importantly why I was saying it.

Taking a deep breath and looking at an unfamiliar crowd, I began. “Words can’t replace fear. One can’t live with sentences alone.” Words began jumping into the minds of others.

That was my voice jumping into the ears of those who cared. Yes, I spoke and they finally listened-there is no greater reward than pouring your heart out to those who will gently hold it. Slowly but surely, my nerves turned into courage. From now on I can refer to myself as a shy, but not so quiet, girl.

C. shy D. lonely

2.Why did the author go to the center of the hallway?

C. Excited D. Confident

4.What can we conclude from the passage?

A. The author is crazy about poetry

B. The audience praised her highly

Let Moments Inspire You

When I was a teenager I volunteered to work at the water station at a 10,000m race. My job was to hand out water to the runners. I remember being so excited to see all the different kinds of people who passed by and grabbed a cup of water. I saw so many types of people doing it. I thought maybe I could do it too! So the next year I signed up for the race.

That first 10,000m race was quite an experience. At times, I didn’t know if I could finish. Then came a defining moment. At one point near the end, a 70-year-old ran past me, very fast and I felt embarrassed that I was 50 years younger than he and I couldn’t even keep up with him. I felt defeated for a second. But then I realized something. He was running his race and I was running mine. He had different abilities, experience, training and goals for himself. I had mine. Remember my goal was only to finish. After a minute, it hit me that this was a lesson I could draw from. I learned something about myself in that moment. I turned my embarrassment into inspiration. I decided that I would not give up on running races. In fact, I would run even more races and I would learn how to train and prepare properly and one day I would be one of those 70-year-olds who was still running. As I crossed the finish line, I was proud of my accomplishment.

In life we all have those moments when we compare ourselves to others. It’s natural. Don’t allow those moments to weaken you. Turn them into motivation and let them inspire you. Use them to show you what is possible. With a proper preparation and training, you can improve your results to achieve anything you want in life.

1.The author signed up for the race because of _______.

A. her running gift B. the racers’ inspiration

C. her interest in sports D. the racers’ excitement

2.Which of the following can best describe the author?

A. Positive B. Negative

C. Doubtful D. Serious

3.How did the author feel at her race result?

A. Regretful B. Satisfied

C. Embarrassed D. Amazed

4.According to the article, finding yourself not as good as others, you should ________.

A. try to find out other gifts you might have

B. avoid comparing yourself with others

C. change or reset your goal

D. try to motivate yourself
