All over the world people enjoy sports, Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer.

Many people like to watch others play games. They buy tickets or turn on their TVs to watch the games. Often they get very excited when "their" player or team wins.

Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for(參加) them. Football, for example, has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers. What fun it is to jump into a pool or lake, whether in China, Egypt or Italy! And think of people in cold countries. Going green seems to be fad(時(shí)尚)for a lot of people these days. Whether that is good or bad, we can’t really say, but for the tow of us, going green is not a fad but a lifestyle.

On April22, 2011, we decided to go green every single day for an entire year. This meant doing 365 different green things, and it also meant challenging ourselves to go green beyond easy things. Rather than recycle and reduce our energy, we had to think of 365 different green things to do and this was no easy task.

With the idea of going green every single day for a year, Our Green Year started. My life and I decided to educate people about how they could go green in their lives and hoped we could show people all the green things that could be done to help the environment. We wanted to push the message that every little bit helps.

Over the course of Our Green Year, we completely changed our lifestyle. We now shop at organic(有機(jī)的)stores. We consume less meat, choosing green food. We have greatly reduced our buying we don’t need. We have given away half of what we owned through websites. Our home is kept clean by vinegar and lemon juice, with no chemical cleaners. We make our own butter, enjoying the smell of home-made fresh bread. In our home office anyone caught doing something ungreen might be punished.

Our minds have been changed by Our Green Year. We are grateful for the chance to have been able to go green and educate others. We believe that we do have the power to change things and help our planet.

1.What might be the best title for the passage?

A. Going Green.

B. Protecting the Planet.

C. Keeping Open-Minded

D. Celebrating Our Green Year.

2.It was difficult for the couple to live a green life for the whole year because_________.

A. they needed to perform unusual green tasks

B. they didn’t know how to educate other people

C. they were unwilling to reduce their energy

D. they were expected to follow the green fad

3.What did the couple do over the course of Our Green Year?

A. They tried to get out of their ungreen habits.

B. They ignore others’ ungreen behavior.

C. They chose better chemical cleaners.

D. They sold their home-made food.

4.What can we infer form the last paragraph?

A. The government will give support to the green people.

B. The couple may continue their project in the future.

C. Some people disagree with the couple’s green ideas.

D. Our Green Year is becoming a national campaign.

Helping Students Find Their Writing Voices

One of the most frustrating things for writing teachers is reading papers that simply lack style. When all of the research has been completed and all of the sentences are structured well, but the paper still lacks some pizzazz(活力),it can be boring to grade. If you are searching for ways to help your students find their voices, why not try making students themselves the topic of the writing? 1.

Who are you?

One of the most difficult questions for students to answer is: “Who are you?” _ 2.__ In doing this, through writing, students will start to see their personalities differently and, hopefully, be able to add a feature to their writing.

Dear John

3. Encourage them to write to a famous person they’ve always admired, and then the one they absolutely hate. Explore how their language changes between the two letters. When students know their audiences, it is much easier for them to add the kind of personality their audience wants to see.

4. When students write about what matters most to them, they will often give you the best writing you’ve ever seen. You’ll get those when you ask questions that hit home. When students have something to say about a given topic, it can be easier for them to get their ideas down and then work on their writing style.

Get the words on paper, and then edit them

The most valuable lesson students can learn is to write first, and edit later. Have students write for five minutes about their topics. If they can get their ideas down on paper, that’s 90% of the battle. 5. This can help them realize that, once they have the ideas down, the rest is just fine tuning(微調(diào)). Once they have this skill mastered, it’s easy for them to start adding their own personal voices to their papers.

A. What matters to you?

B. What style is taught in class?

C. When they write about themselves, students’ voices often shine through.

D. Writing letters is a great way for students to explore their writing style.

E. Have your students explore who they are and what makes them unique.

F. Voice is that magical quality which is able to make a creative writing idea sing!

G. After that, have them edit these ideas into a really strong introductory paragraph.

Dear Arthur,

In your last letter, you told me something about your sister’s surfing on the Internet. I’m familiar to your situation. As computers become more and more popular, some students cannot help play online games and chatting. It is not only a problem of wasting time, but serious problem for their future! What you should do at first is to find out what make her addicted to computer games. Lack of love from parent ? Poor scores? Then having a heart-to-heart talk with her. Secondly, you should help herself with her study to build up her confidence and make her interesting in it. Thirdly, find something else for her to do instead computer games. Your efforts will surely help change her life.
