17.If someone drops a fork at Dinner in the Sky,a seven-ton platform may have to be lowered 50meters to pick up a new one.Joining a growing trend (傾向) for extreme dining---from supper in the dark to eating in the jungle---Dining in the Sky takes the concept to new heights,with a selected group of guests sitting around a table suspended (懸掛) 50meters in the air.
You could be eating above a forest,a beach or in the midst of a European capital,floating above landmarks usually only seen from the ground.Whatever the location,the aim is to elevate(提高) dinning out of the ordinary.
That's the case with the Brussels edition of Dinner in the Sky,which during June gives 22dinners at a time the chance to enjoy gourmet(珍饈的) food while suspended near sites such as the Royal Palace and the famed Atomium(原子塔).

解答 66-70 BACCD
Dining in the Sky takes the concept to new heights, with a selected group of guests sitting around a table suspended (懸掛) 50meters in the air.
Whatever the location,the aim is to elevate(提高) dinning out of the ordinary.
68.答案 C 根據(jù)Besides the beautiful views from up above,Dinner in the Sky also ensures that the food is first-class,with some of the world's top chefs preparing the meals.
69.答案 C 根據(jù)最后一段Diners are carefully strapped (捆綁) into seats similar to those on a rollercoaster (過(guò)山車) and elevated gently by crane to the height, which depends on wind and other weather conditions, but hits a maximum of 50meters.
70.答案 D  根據(jù) Kerkhofs, who used to set up bungee-jumping and amusement park installations, partnered with marketing executive David Ghelys to develop Dinner in the Sky six years ago.

7.
A.A tool to analyze tourism competitiveness
B.Opportunities from the potential markets
C.A significant contribution to economy
D.Distance and policy obstacles
E.Opportunities in existence with challenges
F.Natural and cultural draw card
76.C
Tourism is considered as one of the fastest growing industries in Australia,which contributes significantly to the Australian economy.According to ATC (September 1998),4.22million visitors came to Australia in the year ending June,1998.The main visitors are from Japan,New Zealand and United Kingdom.This paper attempts to analyze whether Australia has the ability to compete successfully with other countries as it enters the new millennium.The analysis will be used as the tool to analyze Australian tourism competitiveness.
77.F
The most obvious strength of Australia is the diversity of natural and manmade attractions.Australia has hundreds of national parks,many of which are world heritage listed.Moreover,there are many unique plants and wildlife found nowhere else on earth.Conde Nast Traveller magazine has recently ranked Australia as the best desirable destination for travelers in 1998,with Sydney being chosen as the best city in the world.Another strength of Australia is the friendliness and easygoing attitude of Australian people,which is world-famous.In addition,the mix of Australian population is truly multicultural.This cultural diversity reflects in the diversity of art,entertainment,and cuisine found in Australia.Apart from the great mix of culture,Aboriginal culture is also another draw card for Australia.The recent survey found that 80% of European visitors want to see and experience Aboriginal culture when they come to Australia.
78.D
One of Australia's inherent weaknesses is its geographical isolation.This means Australia can not position itself as a mass tourism market.However,Australian Tourist Commission attempts to change the perception of distance barrier by promoting Australia as the destination that"takes only as long to get to as a flight between West coast United States and Europe".Restrictive visa policy is another weakness.Australia's visa policy is against international trend towards more freedom of international travel.In addition,visa fee of $ 50has been implemented upon the visitors from Asian countries.Visa regulation should be relaxed,at least to allow free entry for citizens of low risk countries,those which have low visa rejection rates and low overstay rates.
79.B
There are several new emerging markets,which represent a promising opportunity for Australia.These new markets are China,India,Philippines,and South America.China,in particular,is Australia's most promising market because Australia has recently been awarded official tourism destination status by the Chinese government.In only one year,the number of Chinese tourists has already become the sixth largest market for Australia,with the growth of 25%.Another opportunity is from backpackers market,which is becoming more important over time.In addition,they tend to stay longer than most average tourists.According to Office of National Tourismaverage backpackers stay 72nights in the country.In the year ended March 1997,255,700international backpackers visited Australia.
80.E
According to the SWOT analysis,Australia has capability to compete in the international tourism market for the new millennium.It is apparent that there are many strengths and opportunities ahead to make sure that Australia can secure its competitive position.However,it is important to also recognize that there are some inherent weaknesses and possible threats that could have the impact on Australia's competitiveness.These issues need to be dealt with so that the overall competitiveness of Australia will be enhanced.Furthermore,to be able to compete in the long run,it is important to make sure that there is a balance between tourism development and environmental protection.It is the beautiful natural environment which draws visitors to Australia in the first place.

5.Getting rid of dirt,in the opinion of most people,is a good thing.However,there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.
In the early 16th century,people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease,as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in.A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths.By 1538,the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom.So did the king of England in 1546.Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way.Henry IV,king of France,was famously dirty.Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath,the king ordered that,to avoid the attack of disease,the nobleman should not go out.
Though the belief in the merit of dirt was long-lived,dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18th century.Scientifically speaking,cleaning away dirt is good to health.Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease.Yet,it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II.Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea:clothes need to be whiter than white,cloths ever softer,surfaces to shine.Has the hate for dirt,however,gone too far?
Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays.Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt,which might be responsible for the spread of disease.On the contrary,Mary Ruebush,an American immunologist (免疫學(xué)家),encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system.And the latter position is gaining some ground.

A.they lived healthily in a dirty environment
B.they thought bath houses were too dirty to stay in
C.they believed disease could be spread in public baths

48.Which of the following best describes Henry IV's attitude to bathing?A
A.Afraid   B.Curious   C.Approving   D.Uninterested

A.By providing examples.
B.By making comparisons.
C.By following the order of time.
D.By following the order of importance.
50.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?D
A.To stress the role of dirt.
B.To introduce the history of dirt.
C.To call attention to the danger of dirt.
D.To present the change of views on dirt.

Well,I had nothing against feeling great and if Alex could jog every day,anyone could.So I took up jogging seriously and gave it a good two months of my life,and not a day more.Based on my experience,jogging is the most overvalued form of exercise around,and judging from the number of the people who left our neighborhood jogging army.I'm not alone in my opinion.
First of all,jogging is very hard on the body.Your legs and feet a real pounding(沉重的腳步) ruining down a road for two or three miles.I developed foot,leg,and back problems.Then I read about a nationally famous jogger who died of a heart attack while jogging,and I had something else to worry about.Jogging doesn't kill hundreds of people,but if you have any physical weaknesses,jogging will surely bring them out,as they did with me.
Secondly,I got no enjoyment out of jogging.Putting one foot in front of the other for forty-five minutes isn't my idea of fun.Jogging is also a lonely pastime.Some joggers say,"I love being out there with just my thoughts"Well,my thoughts began to bore me,and most of them were on how much my legs hurt.
And how could I enjoy something that brought me pain?And that wasn't just the first week-it was practically every day for two months.I never got past the pain level,and pain isn't fun.What a cruel way to do it!So many other exercises,including walking,lead to almost the same results painlessly,so why jog?
I don't jog any more,and I don't think I ever will.I'm walking two miles three times a week at a fast pace,and that feels good.I bicycle to work when the weather is good.I'm getting exercise,and I'm enjoying it at the same time.I could never say the same for jogging,and I've found a lot of better ways to stay in shape.

56. From the first paragraph,we learn that in the writer's neighborhoodA.
A. jogging became very popular
B. people jogged only during the daytime

B. many physical problems result from jogging
C. not everyone enjoys jogging

2.Today's children are the"result"of the modern society. Our parents have jobs that keep them busy almost all day long. They only have a free day in a week. This doesn't allow them to keep an eye on their children.
On the other hand, the modern society gives more freedom to the children than they could"handle".As a child, you don't know how to grow up by yourself until you reach a certain age. That is why you need school and parents to be by your side all the time.If you don't have either of them you may make a lot of mistakes. The social system of the modern society is verylenientespecially with the children.
Most of the children today are rebels (判逆者).They are rude. They are given too much freedom by their families. This is their parent's mistake. They ought to know that the freedom they give to their children is misunderstood.
For example it is a bad thing for a 17-year-old child to go out in the evening on weekends.Parents are also guilty of the way their children show up in the street or at school. The same guilt belongs to the teaching system as well.Pupils shouldn't be allowed to dress like they were on a fashion presentation at school.
Another important fact we can think of regarding the freedom of children is their free will of spending money.Parents shouldn't allow their children to spend money on whatever they want.
I think children are given too much freedom not only by their parents, but also by the society. The latter is more to be blamed!

9.Many of us enjoy doing it:you turn on the camera on your mobile phone and hold it at a high angle, making your eyes look bigger and your cheekbones more defined. You turn to your best side and click. There it is-your selfie.
Over the past year,"selfie"has become a well-known term across the globe. This August the Oxford dictionary added the word to their online dictionary and defined it as:"A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and up-loaded to a social media website."
Today it's not difficult to find social networking pages full of photos people have taken of themselves and their friends. And selfie culture has become especially relevant for young people. As many as 91 percent of teenagers have posted photos of themselves online, according to a recent survey by the US Pew Research Center.
So what are the reasons for the rise of selfie culture?
"The cult (狂熱) of the selfie celebrates regular people,"Pamela Rutledge,a professor at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, told Vogue magazine."There are many more photographs available now of real people than models."
Posting selfies also allows you to control your image online."I like having the power to choose how I look, even if I'm making a funny face,"Samantha Barks,19,a high school student in the US,told Vogue.
In addition to self-expression and documentation, selfies"allow of a close friendship for long-distance friends, because you can see each other's faces every day",wrote Casey Miller at The Huffmgton Post.
But US psychologist Jill Weber is concerned that selfies might lead to social problems,"There's a danger that your self-esteem may start to be tied to the comments and‘likes'you get when you post a selfie, and they aren't based on who you are-they're based on what you look like,"Weber told Vogue."When you get nothing or a negative response, your confidence canplummet."
63.With the first paragraph, the author intends toB.
A.tell us the fun of taking a selfie
B.describe what a selfie is
C.introduce where the selfie came from
D.inform readers that the selfie is popular among teenagers
64.Why is selfie culture so popular according to the article?A
a.It enables people to choose how they look.
b.It helps people improve their self-esteem.

6.Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that,do you suppose?Wouldn't you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me,I'd like to say,men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth-women are queens of the road.
Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea as to where they are going. We don't drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find ourselves heading in the wrong direction.Have you ever be in a car with a man who is lost?He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he's made another wrong turn.
Speeding is what men do best on the road.Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because we trick to get out of tickets but only because we don't get pulled over as frequently. We don't speed. We have more intelligence than senselessly to put our own lives as well as the lives of others in danger.
My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible, and they're totally lost into loud music beyond a necessary level. You don't ever see women driving like that.
I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are not only better drivers but also safer drivers than men.We women rule the road.Oh,and men,if you want to continue criticizing (批評(píng)) women for being bad drivers, bring it on.We know you lack confidence,or else you wouldn't be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.
