I ran into a stranger as he passed by. “I am so sorry!” was my reply. Then he said,“ Excuse me too… I wasn’t even watching for you.” We were very    , this stranger and I. Then we went on our     ways after saying goodbye.
But at home, a       story is told. Later, in the     , as I cooked our meal, my daughter crept up to me, very still. When I turned, I nearly     her down. “Get out of the way!” I        with a frown(皺眉). She left,       her little heart broken.
That  night, as I     awake in bed, God’s quiet     spoke to me and said, “While
with a stranger, you are     and polite, but with those you love, you are quick and excited… Go look right now on the kitchen floor, you will find some       there by the door. Those are the flowers she brought for you. She picked them herself- pink, yellow, and blue. She stood there quietly, not to      your surprise, and you never saw the tears in her eyes.”
By this time, I felt sad and small and now my own tears had begun to fall. I quietly went and knelt by her bed,“Wake up, sweetheart, wake up,” I said,“Are these the flowers you picked for me? She smiled, “I found them, out by the tree. I wrapped them in a napkin, just for you. I knew you would like them.     the blue.” I said,” I am so sorry that I missed them today… And I shouldn’t have fussed at you that way.”
And she whispered, “Mommy, that is okay… I still love you     .” I hugged her and said, “ I love you too… And I love my flowers, especially the blue.”
Are you     that: If you die tomorrow, the     that you are working for could easily replace you in a matter of days. But the family you leave     will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we     ourselves more to our work than into our families- an unwise       indeed.

My grandmother often said to me, “You can count the number of your true friends on the fingers of one hand.” For a long time I thought this was true. However, I’ve now discovered my grandmother was only half right. Maybe we do only make a few “best” friends in our lifetime, but those aren’t the only people that we can call friends. There are many different types. Let me tell you about a few of them.
One type of friends is the type I call the “football mom friend”. My neighbor Sally is a good example. We both have kids who play football in a football club, and someone has to take them to practice and pick them up. Sally and I and two other mothers take turns to do this. We meet sometimes and have tea and talk about what our kids are doing, but those are the only times that we meet each other. I enjoy being with these women, but we don’t do anything else together.
Another type is called the “hobby friend”. That’s the person you share an interest or a hobby with. Michael and Cater, who are brothers, are a good example of this type. We’re all in a bird watching club. Every few weekends the members of the club go on a trip to watch different kinds of birds. There’s nothing romantic(浪漫的)about my relationship with Michael and Cater, of course. We just share interest in birds.
Then there’s the “other half of the couple” type of friends. Jim is married to Rose, a friend that I’ve known since college. When Rose married Jim, I realized that I would have to be Jim’s friend if I want to continue to be Rose’s. Jim and I don’t share so many interests, but we do have a friendly relationship.
小題1:What does the first paragraph tell us about?

A.the writer made friends with Jim only because of Rose
B.Jim was the writer’s good friend at college
C.Rose didn’t want the writer to be a friend of her husband

One Sunday, my family had gathered at my parents’ house to feast upon Mom’s wonderful cooking. During the normal dinner chatter (閑聊), I noticed that my father was slurring (說話含混) his words. No one mentioned this during dinner, but I felt compelled to discuss it with my mother afterward.
We decided that there was something seriously wrong and that Dad needed to see the doctor.
Mom phoned me two days later. “The doctor found a brain tumor (腫瘤). It’s too large at this point to operate. Maybe they can do something then, but the odds are long.”
Even with the treatment, my father’s condition worsened, and the doctor finally informed us that this condition was terminal (晚期的). During one of his stays in the hospital, we brought our baby daughter Chelsey with us when we visited him. By this time he had great difficulty speaking. I finally figured out that he wanted Chelsey to sit on his stomach so he could make faces at her.
Watching the two of them together, I realized I was living an experience that would stay with me forever. Though grateful for the times they could share, I couldn’t shake the feeling of a clock ticking in the background.?
On the visit to my parents’ home during what we all know was my father’s last days, my mother took Chelsey from my arms and announced, “Your father would like to see you alone for a minute.”
I entered the bedroom where my father lay on a rented hospital bed. He appeared even weaker than the day before.
“How are you feeling, Dad?” I asked. “Can I do anything for you?”
He tried to speak, but he couldn’t make out a word.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t understand you,” I said.
With great difficulty he said, “I love you.”
We don’t learn courage from heroes on the evening news. We learn true courage from watching ordinary people rise above hopeless situations. In many ways my father was a strict, uncommunicative man. He found it difficult to show emotion. The bravest thing I ever saw him do was overcome that barrier to open his heart to his son and family at the end of his life.
小題1:Which of the following statements is TRUE?

小題3: The father had never said “I love you” to the writer before because ________.

The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day. A few days ago, my car was not running well.I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic had it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine.I was amazed. The sad truth is that great talent is not enough.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn. I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $100,000 a year. A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade was telling me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this business consultant who gave me the phrase, “They are one skill away from great wealth.”
There is an old saying that goes, "Job means 'just over broke(破產(chǎn))".And unfortunately, I would say that the saying applies to millions of people.Because schools do not think financial intelligence is intelligence, most workers "live within their means".They work and they pay the bills.Instead I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn.
When I ask the classes I teach, “How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald's?” almost all the students raise their hands. I then ask, “So if most of you can cook a better hamburger, how come McDonald's makes more money than you?” The answer is obvious: McDonald's is excellent at business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.
小題1:The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that
A.he is just one of the talented people
B.he is ready to help others
C.he has a sharp sense of hearing
D.he knows little about car repairing
小題2:The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by____
A.spend more than they can afford
B.1ive within what they earn
C.1ive in their own circle
D.do in their own way
小題3:Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?
A.They don’t work hard enough.
B.They have no specialized skills.
C.They don't make full use of their talents.
D.They lack financial intelligence.
小題4:The main purpose of the author is to tell us____
A.how young people can find a satisfactory job
B.What schools should teach about finance
C.why so many talented people are poor
D.how McDonald's makes much money

One effective way of destroying happiness is to look at something and focus on even the smallest fault. It’s like looking at the tiled (鋪瓦的) ceiling and concentrating on the space where one tile is    1  .
Once I heard a bald man said, “Whenever I enter a room, all I see is hair.” Once you’ve    2   what your missing tile is, explore whether acquiring it will    3   make you happy. Then do one of the three things: get it, replace it with a different    4 , or forget about it and    5  the tiles in your life that are not missing.
We all know people who have had a relatively    6  life, yet are essentially unhappy, while people who have suffered a great deal generally remain happy.
The first    7  is gratitude. All happy people are grateful. Ungrateful people cannot be happy. We tend to think that being unhappy leads people to    8 , but it’s truer to say that complaining leads to people becoming unhappy.
The second secret is awareness. We should    9   that happiness is a byproduct (副產(chǎn)品) of something else. The most obvious    10   are those pursuits ( 追求) that give our lives purpose---anything from studying insects to playing baseball. The more passions we have, the more happiness we are   11   to experience.
Finally, the belief that something permanent goes beyond us and that our   12   has some larger meaning can help us to feel happier. We need a spiritual faith, or a philosophy of life. Whatever your philosophy is, it should    13  this truth: if you choose to find the   14   in every situation, you will be blessed, and if you choose to find the awful, you will be cursed. As for happiness itself, this    15   depends on your decision to make.
