Tragedy at the Circus
In yesterday’s circus（馬戲團(tuán)）show, a tiger suddenly attacked its trainer and had to be shot dead. As the circus packed up and left, circus officials said the show would go on, even without tigers.
However, the officials can’t simply turn a blind eye to the ethical problems left behind. Even before this tragedy （悲�。�, animal rights activists protested against keeping wild animals in unnatural conditions and forcing them to suffer for the profit（利潤）of circus organizers.
It is now time for us to take effective steps to make sure that circus animals are treated properly.

Circus Safe for AnimalsOur circus recently suffered a most tragic event in its history. While we are thankful for the pity from the public, we also astonished by the opinion expressed in “Tragedy at the Circus.”
First, our performing animals are not taken from the wild. As to the ethical problems. we always believe humans and animals can―and should ―live together nicely. To us, the performing animals are representatives of their species（物種）,and our circus is one of the only places left willing to support this special role of performing animals in the existence of the species. Those who argue that circus life is harmful to animals show little knowledge of these facts. Life in the “wild” is unsafe, but a continuous struggle for existence. To overlook these realities is the greatest fault against the animal kingdom.
This circus has proven that animals are stronger and smarter than we could imagine. Within the circus is a joyful atmosphere for both animals and humans : people are educated, and species saved.

A Chinese rocket carrying a probe（探測器）destined（預(yù)定） for the moon has been sent into space.
A Long March 3C rocket with the Chang’e -2 probe took off from Xichang launch centre at about 11: 00 GMT.
The rocket will shoot the craft into the trans-lunar orbit（繞月軌道）, after which the satellite is expected to reach the moon in about five days. Chang’e -2 will be used to test key technologies and collect data for future landings. China says it will send a rover（漫游者） on its next mission, and it also has ambitions to put humans on the surface of the lunar body at some future date. The Xinhua News Agency said Chang’e -2 would circle just 15 km (nine miles) above the rocky terrain（地帶）in order to take photographs of possible landing locations.
It is China’s second lunar probe—the first was launched in 2007. The craft stayed in space for 16 months before being intentionally crashed onto the moon’s surface. China launched its first manned flight into low-earth orbit in 2003; and two more followed, with the most recent one in 2008. So far, only three countries have managed to independently send humans into space: China, Russia and the US.
In 2008, a Chinese astronaut, fighter pilot Zhai Zhigang, performed a spacewalk—the first in China’s history. He stayed outside the Shenzhou-7 capsule for 15 minutes; the exercise was seen as the key to China’s ambition to build an orbiting station in the near future.
