The famous American gorilla (大猩猩) expert Diane Fossey had a completely new way to study gorillas—she pre-tended to be one of them. She copied their actions and way of life—eating plants and getting down on her hands and knees to walk the way a gorilla does: It was a new relationship.

Diane Fossey was murdered in Rwanda in 1985 and her story was made into the popular film Gorillas in the Mist. It was a long way from King Kong, which is about a gorilla as a monster (a frightening animal), and helped to show a new idea: the real monster is man, while the gorilla is to be ad-mired. Today there are thought to be around 48 000 lowland gorillas and maybe 400 450 mountain gorillas in the wild. From the Congo in West Africa, to Rwanda and Uganda further east, they are endangered by hunting and by the cutting down of their forest homes.

Some time ago, I found in my letterbox a little magazine from the World Wide Fund for Nature. It had two photos side by side. One was of a young gorilla. “This is a species of mammal (哺乳類動物),” said the words below it. “It is being destroyed by man. We must save it for our own good. ” The other photo showed a human baby. The words also read, “This is a species of mammal,” but then went on: “It is the most destructive (破壞性的) on earth. We must re- train it for its own good. ”

1. The text mainly talks about ________.

A. Diane Fossey

B. the gorillas in Rwanda

C. the protection of the gorillas

D. the film Gorillas in the Mist

2. We can learn from the text that ________.

A. Gorillas in the Mist was based on Fosseys experiences

B. lowland gorillas live longer than mountain gorillas

C King Kong showed us that a gorilla is admirable

D. Diane Fossey was murdered by a gorilla

3. What message can we get from the two photos in the magazine?

A. Gorillas are man. s close friends.

B. Both man and the gorilla need to be saved.

C. Young gorillas are as lovely as human babies.

D. Man should live peacefully with the gorilla.

Advertisers tend to think big and perhaps this is why they’re always coming in for criticism. Their critics seem to offend them because they have a talent for self-promotion and because they have so much money to throw around. ‘It’s unfair,’ they say, ‘that this entirely unproductive industry (if we can call it that) should absorb millions of pounds each year. It only goes to show how much profit the big companies are making. Why don’t they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods? After all, it’s the consumer who pays…’
The poor old consumer! He’d have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn’t create mass markets for products. It is precisely because of the heavy advertising that consumer goods are so cheap. But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods. Another equally important function is to inform. A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods comes largely from the advertisements we read. Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about. Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine, it is more than likely you would obtain details regarding performance, price, etc., from an advertisement.
Lots of people pretend that they never read advertisements, but this claim may be seriously doubted. It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days. And what fun they often are, too! Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements. Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall or reading railway rules while waiting for a train? Would you like to read only closely printed columns of news in your daily paper? A cheerful, witty advertisement makes such a difference to a dull wall or a newspaper full of disasters.
We must not forget, either, that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets. Newspapers, commercial radio and television companies could not survive without this source of revenue(收益). The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper, or can enjoy so many broadcast programmes is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers. Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price!
Another thing we mustn’t forget is the ‘small ads.’ which are in virtually every newspaper and magazine. What a greatly useful service they perform for the community! Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns. For instance, you can find a job, buy or sell a house, announce a birth, marriage or death in what used to be called the ‘hatch, match and dispatch’ column but by far the most fascinating section is the personal or ‘a(chǎn)gony’ column(讀者來信專欄). No other item in a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature. It’s the best advertisement for advertising there is!

A. Give more support to weak schools

B. Treat all the children equally.

C. Balanced education may stop school choice.

D. Free the students from heavy burdens.

E. Key schools and classes are illegal.

F. To end the industrial management of education.

61.

Education should be aimed to make better citizens instead of making money. If you’re interested in making money, you should start your own business other than schools. Now it’s high time that we put an end to the industrial management of education(教育產(chǎn)業(yè)化) and have it benefit all the people instead of the few rich ones.

62.

We should take concrete(切實的)measures to lessen the students’ heavy burden of homework.. We must kick off concrete policies and rules instead of talking empty talks. We must take action. Only solid policies can guarantee all the students grow soundly.

63.

My parents are farmer-turned workers. I think we should be treated equally with the local children. We should not only have the equal right to go to the local public schools, but also have the rights to take part in the local national college entrance exam instead of being forced to go back to our native place

64.

School choice has become a serious educational problem. To solve this problem fundamentally, we must stick to the balanced development. The government should offer more support to weak schools and have all the teachers exchange the round hillock work(輪崗)among all the schools.

65.

The government is unwilling to spend enough money on education. The key schools turn to parents for money to build new buildings and labs and increase their teachers’ income. This makes a wider gap(差距) between key schools and common schools. Therefore, in order to realize the balance of education, the government should offer more help to weak schools.
