C. repaired by the user himself                          D. used in the U.S.A.
【小題2】According to Owner’s Responsibilities, an owner has to pay for __________.

A.the loss of the sales receiptB.a(chǎn) servicer’s overtime work
C.the product installationD.a(chǎn) mechanic’s transportation
【小題3】Which of the following is true according to the warranty?
A.Consequential damages are excluded across America.
B.A product damaged in a natural disaster is covered by the warranty.
C.A faulty cabinet due to rust can be replaced free in the second year.
D.Free repair is available for a product used improperly in the first year.

【小題1】根據(jù)Warranty Limitations保修限制部分的“Applies only to product used within the United       States or in Canada ”適用于在美國或者加拿大使用的產(chǎn)品,可知D項正確。根據(jù)“if product is approved by Canadian Standards Association when shipped from factory.” 根據(jù) Products used on a rental basis not covered by this warranty,租用的產(chǎn)品是不覆蓋在保修范圍的,因此排除B項。根據(jù)Service must be performed by an Amana servicer服務(wù)必須是在Amana的維修工來操作的,因此排除C項。
根據(jù)Pay for extra service costs, over normal service charges, if servicer is requested to perform service outside servicer’s normal business hours可知,需要付額外的服務(wù)費用,比通常的服務(wù)費用要高,如果維修人員在正常工作時間之外被要求服務(wù)的話。
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have others which vary from state to state 意為這個保修給予了你具體的合法權(quán)利,同時你也可能有其他的一些權(quán)利,這在不同的州情況有所不同,因此排除A項,A項意為間接損失在全美都不包括。 根據(jù)Product is improperly installed or applied意為不恰當(dāng)?shù)陌惭b和使用造成的損失是不保修的。

I travel a lot, and I find out different “styles” of directions every time I ask “How can I get to the post office?”

Foreign tourists are often confused in Japan because most streets there don’t have names. In Japan, people use landmarks(地標(biāo)) in their directions instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the corner. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop.”

In the countryside of the American Midwest, there are not usually many landmarks. There are no mountains, so the land is very flat; in many places there are no towns or buildings within miles. Instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distances. In Kansas or Iowa, for example, people will say, “Go north two miles. Turn east, and then go another mile.”

People in Los Angeles, California, have no idea of distance on the map. They measure distance in time, not miles. “How far away is the post office?” you ask. “Oh,” they answer, “it’s about five minutes from here.” You say, “Yes, but how many miles away is it?” They don’t know.

It’s true that a person doesn’t know the answer to your question sometimes. What happens in such a situation? A New Yorker might say, “Sorry, I have no idea.” But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers “I don’t know.” People in Yucatan believe that “I don’t know” is impolite. They usually give an answer, often a wrong one. A tourist can easily get lost in Yucatan! (268 words)

What is the place where people measure distance in time?

   A. New York.   B. Los Angeles.      C. Kansas.             D. Iowa.

People in Yucatan may give a tourist a wrong answer ______.

   A. in order to save time   B. to show the right way

   C. so as to be polite         D. for fun

What can we infer from the text?

   A. It’s important for travelers to understand cultural differences.

   B. It’s useful for travelers to know how to ask the way properly.

   C. People have similar understandings of politeness.

   D. New Yorkers are generally friendly to visitors.
