Children today would rather toy with new technologies. The role of children has changed as well as that of teens. The world has truly evolved (進(jìn)化)throughout the years.
Today,a typical day in the life of a five year old is entirely different from what it once was. A few decades ago children used to work. They did the kind of work parents do today. Today there are shows on which children are putting pounds of makeup on and have flashing things all over their bodies. This makes a child want to paper over all of their imperfections. They think they have to look perfect all the time.
Teens have changed as well. My grandma got married when she was thirteen. Girls who had an arranged marriage had no time to play because they were expected to cook, clean, take care of the kids, and do housework every single day. Today,we go to school every morning, maybe participate in some after-school activities, and possibly go to work for extra cash. Then we go home and do homework, and eat. After all of this we have to find the time to socialize by texting, talking on the phone, or logging on to social networking sites. We enjoy ourselves a lot.
The generation before us complains about how they did not have the things we have now. They say we are not appreciative and do not value life or just do not care about our futures anymore. Let's make a change! The youth have the power to work on whatever they believe in and make a difference in the world. Take advantage of your resources. It is never too late to make a positive change in our world.

小題1:推斷題。從第一自然段及第三自然段可知,現(xiàn)在的孩子們和青少年與十年前的不一樣了,科學(xué)技術(shù)的發(fā)展及其廣泛的運(yùn)用是主要原因。故選A。
小題2:推斷題。Today there are shows on which children are putting pounds of makeup on and have flashing things all over their bodies. This makes a child want to paper over all of their imperfections.從這兩句可知,現(xiàn)在的孩子們花重金化妝,打扮,是為了掩蓋他們的缺陷。故選D。
小題3:推斷題。從第三自然段After all of this we have to find the time to socialize by texting, talking on the phone, or logging on to social networking sites. We enjoy ourselves a lot.可知,現(xiàn)在的青少年社交的方式更多了,通過短信、電話、網(wǎng)絡(luò)等等。故選B。

Humans aren't the only species on the planet with a penchant for electronic gadgets(小配件).Zookeepers across the US and Canada are discovering that apes also get excited about Apps.
As part of a program called"Apps for Apes",12 zoos across the two countries have been introducing iPads into the entertainment time for orangutans, the giant furry red primates native to Indonesia and Malaysia.
"We are finding that, similar to people, they like touching the tablet, watching short videos of David Attenborough for instance, and looking at other animals and orangutans," said Richard Zimmerman, founding director of Orangutan Outreach, the non-profit that runs the program.
Twice weekly, orangutans are provided with access to the tablets. The animals spend from 15 minutes to half an hour using different Apps depending on their attention span.Apps designed for children that stimulate activities such as painting, music and memory games are among the most popular Apps with the apes.
"It is a lot like when we're showing children pop-up books,"said Zimmerman, adding that the orangutans are among the most intelligent primates, with the intelligence level of a young child.
The program, which relies on donated iPads, will soon be expanding to zoos across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Europe.

Paula Radcliffe, chasing (角逐) a third London marathon title (馬拉松冠軍), says she has become a stronger person after her terrible experience at the 2004 Athens Games.
Radcliffe, who failed to complete the Olympic marathon and the 10,000m last August, said: “Athens made me a stronger person and it made me care less about criticism.”
“In the past I wanted to please everyone, but now I am going to listen even more to the people around me.”
She didn’t care about criticism made at the weekend by Liz McColgan, who felt Radcliffe should have rested and let her body recover after her failure in Athens.
“Liz is someone I look up to but she hasn’t spoken to me since last year and if she really cared for me, I'm sure she would have contacted me.”
Instead Radcliffe won the New York City marathon just 11 weeks after Athens.
“In New York I wasn’t in my best state but I did know I was good enough to win the race.”      Radcliffe insisted her only goal in Sunday’s race would be winning a third title and not chasing world records.
However, Radcliffe has not ruled out (排除) in the future chasing her "final" world record time and questioned sayings that marathon runners have the ability in their career to produce only four or five world-class times.
“I don't think that—although I can't put a number on it,” said Radcliffe. “That changes from person to person.”
Radcliffe is sure she can better her winning London 2003 performance at some point in the future. Following a successful three-month training period in the United States, the 31-year-old will chase a third title on Sunday after her first victory in 2002 and again 12 months later.
Radcliffe clocked a time of 2:18:56 in her first 42.2-kilometer race three years ago.
Afterwards she set a "mixed course" mark of 2:17:18 five months later in Chicago before lowering that to a time of 2:15:25 in the 2003 London event.
小題1:Radcliffe’s failure in Athens made her       .
A.develop respect for Liz.B.love people around her more.
C.rest for five months.D.face criticism calmly.
小題2:Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.Radcliffe broke the world record in the New York City marathon.
B.Radcliffe didn't fully recover before the New York City marathon.
C.Radcliffe won her first marathon title in the New York City marathon.
D.Radcliffe had a 3-month training before the New York City marathon.
小題3:By saying “I can't put a number on it,” Radcliffe means she’s not sure        .
A.if she has the ability to set a new world record.
B.if she can win another race though she has won many times.
C.how many times a marathon runner can set the world record.
D.if she has the ability to produce four or five world-class times.
小題4:What can we learn from Radcliffe's story?
A.Practice makes perfect.B.Well begun is half done.
C.A friend in need is a friend indeed.D.Where there is a will there is a way.
