【答案】
The revival of rarely used characters promoted by the contest seems ridiculous. Lookingat it in terms of practicability, the contest is reading the public in the wrong direction.
The development of a language can not be separated from its usage in reality. Throughout the course of history, outdated characters or words have inevitably been replaced by more modern and innovative versions. For one thing, many other simpler words can express the same meaning, why would people invest time in remembering the strokes(筆劃) of such complicated word? For another, the research of ancient Chinese characters should be undertaken by academics, rather than the general public.
For a TV programme, using traditional culture to attract audience is a great selling point, but we should be aware that the show has little power to bring those rarely used characters back to life.
【解析】題目要求用英語寫對目前漢字聽寫大賽的評論。寫作的要點已經(jīng)給出,按要求從漢字的使用等方面著手。用第一人稱進行寫作,評價盡量客觀。
范文注意使用for one thing, for another等來銜接段意和句意,做到了語意連貫;范文使用了一些重點語法知識,如:賓語從句that the show has little power to bring those rarely used characters back to life和v-ing形式做賓語remembering the strokes(筆劃) of such complicated word;范文還使用了較多的短語in terms of, bring back to life等,使作文顯得充實,有內(nèi)涵。

【題目】D
The baby is just one day old and has not yet left hospital. She is quiet but alert (警覺). Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze(凝視) starts to lose its focus — until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world?
Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise (同樣地)when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.
【1】Babies are sensitive to the change in______.
A. the size of cards
B. the colour of pictures
C. the shape of patterns
D. the number of objects
【2】Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?
A. To reduce the difficulty of the experiment.
B. To see how babies recognize sounds.
C. To carry their experiment further.
D. To keep the babies’ interest.
【3】Where does this text probably come from?
A. Science fiction.
B. Children’s literature.
C. An advertisement.
D. A science report.

【題目】We can achieve knowledge either actively or passively. We achieve it actively by direct experience, by testing and proving an idea, or by reasoning. We achieve knowledge passively by being told by someone else. Most of the learning that takes place in the classroom and the kind that happens when we watch TV or read newspapers or magazines is passive. Conditioned as we are to passive learning, it’s not surprising that we depend on it in our everyday communication with friends and co-workers.
Unfortunately, passive learning has a serious problem. It makes us tend to accept what we are told even when it is little more than hearsay and rumor.
Did you ever play the game Rumor? It begins when one person writes down a message but doesn’t show it to anyone. Then the person whispers it, word for word, to another person. That person, in turn, whispers it to still another, and so on, through all the people playing the game. The last person writes down the message word for word as he or she hears it. Then the two written statements are compared. Typically, the original message has changed.
That’s what happens in daily life. The simple fact that people repeat a story in their own words changes the story. Then, too, most people listen imperfectly. And many enjoy adding their own creative touch to a story, trying to improve on it, stamping it with their personal style. Yet those who hear it think they know.
This process is also found among scholars and authors: A statement of opinion by one writer may be re-stated as a fact by another, who mat in turn be quoted by yet another; and this process my continue, unless it occurs to someone to question the facts on which the original writer based his opinion or to challenge the interpretation he placed upon those facts.
【1】According to the passage, passive learning may occur in _________.
A. doing a medical experiment B. solving a math problem
C. visiting an exhibition D. doing scientific reasoning
【2】The underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to _________.
A. active learning B. knowledge C. communication D. passive learning
【3】The author mentions the game Rumor to show that _________.
A. a message may be changed when being passed on
B. a message should be delivered in different ways
C. people may have problems with their sense of hearing
D. people tend not to believe in what they know as rumor
【4】what can we infer from the passage?
A. Active learning is less important.
B. Passive learning may not be reliable
C. Active learning occurs more frequently.
D. Passive learning is not found among scholars.
