【答案】

Students Like Associations

This term our school organized more than 10 associations, including music, arts, literature, manga, photography and so on. Students can choose what they are interested in freely. The students who join the same association hold activities in the same place. The activities will take place from 4:00-5:00 every Friday.

Students think highly of the associations. They say it is useful to develop their specialties and they have learned a lot that is not in textbooks and they have got a great deal of practice. However, students are not quite satisfied. They hope to see more associations and to get help from teachers. What is more, they suggest that they have chance to communicate with other schools.

如定語從句who join the same association,賓語從句what they are interested in freely.非謂語動(dòng)詞including的使用。如:including, and so on, think highly of, a great deal of, what is more等詞匯。

Any car accident is frightening, but an accident in which your vehicle is thrown into the water, with you trapped inside, is absolutely(絕對(duì)地) terrifying.

【1】 . However, most deaths result from fear, without a plan or understanding what is happening to the car in the water. By adopting a brace(支撐) position, acting decisively and getting out fast, you can save yourself from a sinking vehicle.

Brace yourself for impact (撞擊力). As soon as you're aware that you're going off th e road and into a body of water, adopt a brace position. The impact could set off the airbag system in your vehicle, so you should place both hands on the steering wheel(方向盤) in the "ten and two" position.

Undo your seatbelt. 2 . Release the children, starting with the oldest first. Forget the cell phone call. Your car isn't going to wait for you to make the call.

3 . Leave the door alone at this stage and concentrate on the window. A car's electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, so try the method of opening it electronically first. Many people don't think about the window as an escape choice either because of fear or misinformation about doors and sinking.

Break the window. If you aren't able to open the window, or it only opens halfway, you'll need to break it with an object or your foot. It may feel counter-intuitive (有悖常理的) to let water into the car. 4 .

Escape when the car has equalized. If it has reached the stage where the car has been filled with water and it has become balanced, you must move quickly and effectively to ensure your survival. 5 . While there is still air in the car, take slow, deep breaths and focus on what you're doing.

A. Open the window as soon as you hit the water.

B. This is the first thing to do, yet it often gets forgotten.

C. Surviving a sinking car is not as difficult as you think.

D. In short, if you know what to do in the water, you will be safe.

E. It takes 60 to 120 seconds for a car to be filled with water usually.

F. Such accidents are particularly dangerous to the risk of drowning(淹死).

G. But the sooner the window is open, the sooner you can escape directly through it.

【題目】The idea of being able to walk on water has long interested humans greatly. Sadly, biological facts prevent us ever accomplishing such a thing without artificial aid--we simply weigh too much, and all our mass pushes down through our relatively small feet, resulting in a lot of pressure that makes us sink.

However, several types of animals can walk on water. One of the most interesting is the common basilisk. Basilicus, a lizard (蜥蜴) native to Central and South America. It can run across water for a distance of several meters, avoiding getting wet by rapidly hitting the water's surface with its feet. The lizard will take as many as 20 steps per second to keep moving forward. For humans to do this, we'd need huge feet that we could bring up to our ears in order to create adequate "hitting.

But fortunately there is an alternative: cornflour. By adding enough of this common thickening agent to water (and it does take a lot), you can create a "non-Newtonian" liquid that doesn't behave like normal water. Now, if the surface of the water is hit hard enough, particles(微粒) in the water group together for a moment to make the surface hard. Move quickly enough and put enough force into each step, and you really can walk across the surface of an adequately thick liquid of cornflour.

Fun though all this may sound, it's still rather messy and better read about in theory than carried out in practice, if you must do it, then keep the water wings handy in case you start to sink--and take a shower afterward!

【1】Walking on water hasn't become a reality mainly because humans _______.

A. are not interested in it

B. have biological limitations

C. have not invented proper tools

D. are afraid to make an attempt

【2】What do we know about Basilicus from the passage?

A. It is light enough to walk on water.

B. Its huge feet enable it to stay above water.

C. It can run across water at a certain speed.

D. Its unique skin keeps it from getting wet in water

【3】 What is the function of the cornflour according to the passage?

A. To create a thick liquid.

B. To turn the water into solid.

C. To help the liquid behave normally.

D. To enable the water to move rapidly.

【4】What is the author's attitude toward the idea of humans' walking on water?

A. It is risky but beneficial.

B. It is interesting and worth trying.

C. It is crazy and cannot become a reality.

D. It is impractical though theoretically possible.
