【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。
I just hope that our brains won’t crash(死機). Are you wo rking on your typing skills to make you a more efficient worker? That may be all for nothing as Intel believes that we’ll be able to control our computers with our brains by 2020.
Intel and its resear ch partners are study ing how brain acts when it thinks. For example, scientists have found that people’s brains react in a similar manner when asked to think of a bear.
Through sensors(感應(yīng)器)that can find this sort of brain activity, Intel thinks that it will be able to read and translate this into an input system thanks to a c hip in the brain.
“We’re trying to prove you can do interesting things with brain wav es. ”Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau told Computerworld. “Eventually people may be willing to be, more devoted to brain implants(植入物). Imagine being able to surf the Web with the Power of your thoughts. ”
Even if thin king about a bear isn’t enough to show that you want to copy and paste something. Intel still thinks that there’s a future in using your brain instead of the keyboard.
“If we can get to the point where you can accurately find specific words, you could mentally type, ”he added. “You could compose characters or words by thinking about letters flashing on the screen or typing whole words rather than their individual characters. ”
While this may all sound impractical for present time, Intel thinks that it’s possible and something we’ll all want.
“I think human beings are unusually adaptive(適應(yīng)的), ”said Andrew Chien, vice pre sident of research and director of future technologies research at Intel Labs. “If you told people 20 years ago that they would be carrying computers all the time, they would have said, ‘I don’t want that. I don’t need that. ’Now you can’t get them to stop carrying device s. There are a lot of things that have to be done first but I think implanting chips into human brains is well within the scope of possibility. ”
Make good use of your favorite mouse and keyboard set-up before they’re old-fashioned.
(1)What are Intel and its partners doing at present?
A.Controlling our computers with our brains.
B.Working on typing skills to improve efficiency.
C.Studying how the brain behaves when it thinks.
D.Finding how the brain reacts when it thinks of a bear.
(2)According to Dean Pomerleau, we can learn that.
A.brain implants will not be accepted
B.he holds negative attitude to the research
C.mentally typing will be possible in the future[來源:學(xué)_科_網(wǎng)]
D.people need a period of time to accept the new idea
(3)Computers were taken for example by Andrew Chien(in the last but one paragraph)to prove.
A.nothing is impossible
B.mankind has great power
C.society is always changing
D.human beings can adapt very well
(4)In the last paragraph, the author probably means that.
A.there will be no mouse or keyboard any more
B.new kinds of mouse and keyboard will appear
C.human brains will replace the present computers
D.the mouse and keyboard should be used to the full

【答案】

【題目】On a cold winter day, many years ago, a French art teacher named Pierre Chevalier got on a train in Lyon to go to Paris. When he started his journey, he didn’t know that it was the beginning of almost 40 years of accidents and near death experiences.

During the journey, the train fell into an icy river, killing 12 passengers. Chevalier managed to swim back to the river bank. He only had a broken leg.

Two years later, Chevalier was on a plane from Paris to Moscow when a door suddenly opened and he fell out. A few minutes later, the plane crashed(墜毀); 27 people were killed. Chevalier was so lucky that he landed in a haystack(干草堆).

A few years later, he was hit by a bus, but again had no serious injuries. Then a year after that, he was driving on a mountain road when he saw a truck coming straight at him. He drove the car off the road, jumped out, landed in a tree—and watched his car fall 100 metres down the mountain.

“There are two ways you can look at it,” Chevalier said. “I’m either the world’s unluckiest man, or the world’s luckiest.” When a reporter asked Chevalier what he thought, he chose the “l(fā)uckiest” one.

Two years ago, aged 71, Chevalier bought his first lottery ticket(彩票) in 50 years and won more than 2 million.

After this, a TV company in America said they wanted him to make an advertisement. At first he accepted, but then he changed his mind. Chevalier said he wouldn’t fly to Los Angeles for the filming, because he didn’t want to push his luck. Who knows? If he had accepted the invitation, maybe he would have had another accident. But Mr Chevalier is a lucky man. If he’d had another accident, he probably would have survived that too!

1In the train accident many years ago, Chevalier ________.

A. didn’t get injured at all

B. was lucky enough to be alive

C. was finally pulled out of the river

D. was the only passenger to survive

2Why did Chevalier refuse to make the advertisement?

A. Because he had won 2 million.

B. Because he didn’t want to leave home.

C. Because he didn’t want to risk his life.

D. Because he didn’t like the TV company.

3The text mainly talks about ________.

A. a man with nine lives

B. the unluckiest man in the world

C. a man who traveled around the world

D. a man who earned 2 million in a lottery

【題目】China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil-shortages, car makers have announced their plans to develop hybrid(混合燃料)cars for the Chinese market.Toyota’s hybrid car Prius will be ready to drive in China this week.Let’s have a look at the new car.

Any vehicle is a hybrid car when it combines two or more sources of power.Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engine. They run at 99 percent of their power when the car is going at a steady speed A specially designed battery motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra speed-up is needed

Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a traditional car.At this point, the car’s gasoline engine is at rest. The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 kilometers per hour.If you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used, and no waste gas gives off.

The computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two.If you go over 24 kilometers per hour, when you step on the gas, you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.

The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at a high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also charges the batteries.

Any time you use the brake, the electric motor will work like a generator(發(fā)電機)and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a result, the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.

【1】Which of the following pictures can show how the power system of Prius works correctly?(W—Wheel of the car, E.M—electric motor, G.E—gasoline engine, C—computer, B—batteries)

A.

B.

C.

D.

【2】What is the most important characteristic of hybrid cars?

A. They are powered by both a rechargeable battery and gasoline.

B. They have smaller engines than traditional gasoline ones.

C. They use only 99 percent of their power to run up hills.

D. They are much quieter than traditional cars.

【3】We can know from the report that ___________.

A. the batteries can be recharged at any time you want

B. using the brake suggests that the gasoline engine should work

C. the gasoline engine charges the batteries as well as powering the car

D. the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles without being recharged

【4】The author writes this passage mainly to ___________.

A. announce plans to develop hybrid cars for the Chinese market

B. let people know how to save their gasoline when driving a car

C. teach people how to drive a hybrid car

D. introduce a new kind of “green” car

Last summer, I went to work as a volunteer teacher in a small village, that is located in the south of our country. The children there were all from poor families, but they didn't have nice clothes to wear or food eat. They had to do much housework as our parents had gone to work in cities to make money. They had to take care for their little brothers or sisters. They live a hard life. But they were eager to learn less about the outside world. When asking about their dreams, they gave me the same answer. They said they hoped they could return to their small villages after graduating from college to make their hometown the more beautiful.
