【題目】If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice: there are four skills in learning English. They are reading ,listening, speaking and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passage or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.

【解析】試題分析:文章講述的是給要成為流利的英語使用者的四個(gè)建議。
【1】A 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。題目中問的是作者認(rèn)為最應(yīng)該先提高哪種技能,定位到第一段最后一句The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.故選A,聽力和閱讀。
【2】A 詞意猜測(cè)題。unfamiliar words you come across與后面的the word you see 講的是同一內(nèi)容,那么come across和see應(yīng)該是差不多的意思,由此推斷是遇見的意思,結(jié)合前面的語境,應(yīng)該是你無意中遇見的意思,故選A。
【3】C 推理判斷題。根據(jù)文中第三段此句“You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. ”可推斷作者可能認(rèn)為擅長讀會(huì)對(duì)聽力的提高有幫助。
【4】D 主旨大意題。全文圍繞如何成為一個(gè)流利的英語使用者展開,文章第一句就是寫作的主旨。If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice。

【題目】Olympic gold medalist Morolake Akinosun walked through the halls of her high school in Illinois in the US, surprised at how little had changed at her old high school other than the green color on the walls.
Akinosun won her medal with the 400-meter relay team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer. Her return to her high school recently included a chance for the young woman to tell what she’s learned since running track for Wsubonsie more than fours year ago.
Her first piece of advice to the crowd of students was asking them to listen to their parents. “ They see things you can't see,” she said. “ In high school I thought I was on the top of the world.”
In Akinosun’s case, her parents encouraged her to consider going to the University of Illinois, which at the time had a team that was coached by Olympic medal winner Tonja Buford-Bailey. “ I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents,” she said.
Her parents saw Buford-Bailey as a good fit to coach their daughter, something Akinosun said she didn’t understand at the time. It didn’t take long, however, for her to see they were right and she ended up following Buford-Bailey to the University of Texas at Austin when the coach took a job there. Akinosun admitted it was three years before she told her parents they were right.
Becoming an excellent athlete who can take part in the Olympics needs serious dedication. She says her success came from viewing herself as an athlete-student instead of a student-athlete.
“I always put track and field first, and then comes school,” Akinosun said. A social life comes last.“It’s about sacrifices(犧牲). You can’t be on the track team unless you’re chosen,” she added.
Making athletics the most important thing in her life meant devoting her time and energy fully, no matter how she might feel on a given day. “ I never missed a training session (環(huán)節(jié)) in my four years in college,” she said. “It’s my job; it’s what I do. Think about that when you want to sleep in.”
【1】Which of the following statements is TRUE about Akinosun according to the article?
A. She was a big fan of Buford-Bailey in high school.
B. She make up her mind to win Olympic gold medals in high school.
C. She still doesn’t want to admit that her parents helped her a lot.
D. She is thankful to her parents for finding her the right coach.
【2】According to Akinosun, she became a successful athlete because ______.
A. she had great confidence in herself.
B. she always put training before anything else.
C. she was pushed by her coach to train hard.
D. she could keep a good balance between school and training.
【3】The underlined word “dedication” in Paragraph 6 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. a strong desire B. knowing oneself
C. a clear purpose D. devoting her time and energy fully
【4】What’s the best title of the passage?
A. How Akinosun spent her high school years.
B. The story of Akinosun’s success.
C. Being an athlete is not easy.
D. Akinosun’s advice to her schoolmates.

【題目】Icelanders have a beautiful tradition of giving books to each other on Christmas Eve and then spending the night reading. This custom is so deeply rooted in the culture that it is the reason for Christmas Book Flood, when the majority of books in Iceland are sold between September and December in preparation for Christmas giving.
“Books get attention here.” Says Baldur Bjarnason, a researcher who has written about the Icelandic book industry.
The small Nordic island, with a population of only 329,000 people, is extraordinarily literary (文學(xué)的). They love to read and write. According to a BBC article, “The country has more writers, more books published and more books read, per head, than anywhere else in the world… One in 10 Icelanders will publish a book.”
It seems there is more value placed on physical, paper books than in North America, where e-books have grown in popularity. One bookstore manager said, “The book in Iceland is such an enormous gift-you give a physical book. You don’t give e-books here.” The book industry is driven by the majority of people buying several books each year, rather than the North American pattern of a few people buying lots of books.
It sounds like a wonderful tradition, perfect for a winter evening. It is something that I would love to incorporate (吸收) into my own family’s celebration of Christmas.
【1】What do Icelanders do on Christmas Eve?
A. They give books to each other and read books.
B. They buy a lot of books to read.
C. They check the mailboxes and send cards to friends.
D. They get together and sing Christmas songs together.
【2】How many people in Iceland can be described as writers?
A. 329,000 B. 32,900
C. 3,290 D. 3,290,000
【3】What is the difference between Icelanders and North Americas on buying books?
A. People in Iceland never buy e-books.
B. People in North America never buy physical books.
C. A few people buy a large number of books in North America.
D. In Iceland, everyone buys a large number of books each year.

【題目】Most children are now working longer hours than their parents with some saving for over 46 hours a week, according to a new survey.
The research shows that parents are creating crazy schedules for their children with after school activities in addition to school tasks. This means children are actually working harder than the average parents who only work for 37.5 hours a week.
The average child already completes 30 hours and 50 minutes a week at school from Monday to Friday, as well as seven hours and 51 minutes of clubs and homework. Actively reading with parents daily takes a further five hours and 49 minutes a week. The Center Parcs study of 2,000 parents also found the average child also helps with housework for up to an hour and 37 minutes each week.
Colin Whaley, marketing director from Center Pares, said, “We made this report to further understand family life and what challenges parents and children are facing and overcoming, so we can always make sure we’re offering what they need. What has undoubtedly come out of this is the need for families—parents and children alike—to take time out to relax.”
In response to the findings, Center Parcs let child psychologist(心理學(xué)家)Dr Sam Wass to develop a Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for free time which needs three hours and 51 minutes every day. Last summer I did some fruit-picking. It is pretty hard work. I had to start in 7 am and pick for a good eight hour. But it was such cheerful that we had great fun. Some of we had guitars, so in the evenings we had barbecues and played a bit music together. I only got about $80 a week, but at the least they gave me all my meals, and the food was not that awfully. Basic accommodation was also supplying. Still, I’m afraid I won’t be going fruit-picking this summer, because I’ve got a temporary job in town what pays better.
