Never Put off until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today
We have been told never to put off until tomorrow what you can do today since childhood.However,there are still many people who like putting off the things that they should do today until tomorrow.They have no plans for their work and their time.As a result,they will not accomplish their goals in the end.
For example,one Sunday I felt so tired after having a football match that I did not finish my homework even at night.I thought I could get up earlier to go to school the next morning so that I could finish my homework before class.But the next morning,I was not able to get to school in time because of the traffic jam.I was punished by the teacher.It taught me a lesson.From then on I made a determination that I would never put off anything important until the next day.
Please remember:Work today,for you don't know how much you may be hindered tomorrow.Seize the present day,cherish every minute you have now and trust the tomorrow as little as possible.
(1)你讀了本篇文章后,有什么感想;
(2)談?wù)勀銓?duì)"今日事今日畢"的看法;
1)在作文中可以使用自己親身的經(jīng)歷或虛構(gòu)的故事,也可以參照閱讀材料的內(nèi)容但不得直接引用原文中的句子;

重要短語(yǔ):try to do (努力做某事),put off(推遲),be in a mess(混亂),shelf one's tasks (擱置某人的任務(wù)),face sth (面對(duì)某事),lengthen life (延長(zhǎng)生命),from one's point of view(某人認(rèn)為),be of great benefit(對(duì)…有利),develop a good habit of(培養(yǎng)一個(gè)好習(xí)慣),cherish time(珍重時(shí)間),be bound to do sth(一定會(huì)做某事),make a difference(產(chǎn)生影響),pay off(獲得成功),make full use of(充分利用),keep a balance between A and B(保持A與B平衡).
1.Many times,I shelved my tasks and went to bed without finishing them,just finding excuses for myself.
I shelved my tasks and went to bed without finishing them",主句的主語(yǔ)為"I"與動(dòng)詞"find"構(gòu)成邏輯上的主動(dòng)關(guān)系.
1.I believe that it's of great benefit for us to develop a good habit of cherishing time,from which we can make a sufficient preparation for tomorrow.
此處是由"介詞+關(guān)系代詞"構(gòu)成的非限制性定語(yǔ)從句,關(guān)系代詞"which"指代前面主句中的"a good habit".
3.Only by finishing what we should do today can we better master our study and life for tomorrow!
此處是部分倒裝結(jié)構(gòu),結(jié)構(gòu)為"Only+【狀語(yǔ)成分:介詞短語(yǔ)/when、if引導(dǎo)的從句/時(shí)間副詞】+一般疑問句形式".

解答 The author tries to tell us with his example that we should never put off until tomorrow what you can do today,as you never know what would happen tomorrow.(概括)
As the saying goes,"Time and tide wait for no man."If you put off what you should do today,your tomorrow would be in a mess.What a shame it is to think of myself in the past!Many times,I put things until tomorrow.Many times,I shelved my tasks and went to bed without finishing them,just finding excuses for myself.【高分句型一】And now,time flies.I have to face the examination!(感想)
To save time is to lengthen life.From my point of view,I believe that it's of great benefit for us to develop a good habit of cherishing time,from which we can make a sufficient preparation for tomorrow.【高分句型二】Such a good habit will be bound to give us more confidence to make greater difference in the future.(對(duì)"今日事今日畢"的看法)
We always have time enough,if we will but use it aright.With the help of my teacher,I made a plan almost every day for my study,and even asked my best friend to supervise me.Now my perseverance pays off:gradually I can make full use of my time and keep a good balance between study and rest.Only by finishing what we should do today can we better master our study and life for tomorrow!【高分句型三】(怎樣合理安排時(shí)間,及時(shí)完成老師布置的任務(wù)的)

2.Do I exist?
Obviously!
Until Descartes came along in the seventeenth century,everyone assumed that we exited.Obviously.The fact seemed so mind-blowingly obvious that it wasn't really discussed.We could see ourselves in the mirror,we could feel pain and pleasure,we could think thoughts for ourselves and,more importantly,perhaps,all the world's main religions assumed that we do exist.So we exist.

No you don't it!
You don't exist.That's because it's impossible to show once and for all that you do.There's no proof.You might think you exist-that you are sitting at a table reading this book,for instance-but how could you show with 100percent certainty that this is true?There's no experiment that could prove it.Although Descartes said just you could prove your own existence by the fact that you are able to think,this isn't actually,according to the British philosopher A.J.Ayer.Just because we know that we are thinking,this doesn't mean that there is a"you"doing the thinking.It just shows that the thoughts are happening,not that anyone is having them.Thoughts exists,"You"don't.

______!
What a waste of time this question is.Although you can argue until the end of time whether you exist or not,it doesn't get you anywhere.Unless you forget about this unanswerable question,you'll be stuck thinking about it forever,and that isn't of any use to anyone.Move on.Think about something more important!This very roughly,is the view of almost all philosophers,who prefer to answer other,apparently more useful,questions.

Yes,but…
You exist,but not in the way you might think.According to the great French philosopher Ren Descartes,you can't show that anything exists-apart from your own self.The existence of the entire world can be doubted in one way or another,but the facts you're having thoughts shows that there might be something (that's you) having them.This let Descartes to write the famous philosophical phrase,"I think before I am".

60.Which of the following can be the missing heading?D
A.Forget about it
B.What a ridiculous point
C.Think about it
D.What a pointless question
61.This passage is anything but a(n)A.
A.comment
B.discussion

D.It won't get you anywhere.

11.I am a thirty-year-old Asian woman and I work in my family's furniture business in Mombasa,Kenya.I have a disability caused by a spinal(脊柱的) injury.
I started school at the age of three but my physical activity was severely limited due to the nature of my disability.The word pity and the puzzle-horror look on people's faces as they stare at me have been my life's companion since those early days.
I had always dreamt of becoming a lawyer but I had to give up further education due to my health condition.But I still wanted to see whether there was some life out there beyond the narrow limits of my local community.Somehow I always hoped,still,I could find a means to overcome this limitedness.
However,I am very fortunate to have a positive family.They have also faced challenges having a disabled member in the family,but they have never made me feel different or treated me differently.
Having personally experienced a lot of discrimination,I decided that it was time to create awareness about disability in my community.I went to work at the Rotaract Club,an organization that assists the poor in society.However,I noticed that it runs on an easy charity model-food,clothes,sometimes cash.Even though this approach serves immediate needs,I knew that we needed to and could do more.
Being the only disabled member in the club made it difficult to express my views.So,as soon as I retired from the Rotaract Club I produced Dear Diary.It is a play which is based on my real life experiences as well as those with similar experiences.I insist that the Asian community need to look deeply into its beliefs towards persons with disabilities and establish structures of social support for them.Someone must teach them that an individual's inner self is even precious.
