[1] High school is thought by many to be an exciting time when you make lasting friendships and look forward to college life. However, as all young people know, high school is full of pressures.

[2] Fitting in is not only a major part of middle school and high school, but it is also crucial throughout life. The dream of being one of the “in-crowd” isn’t a desire you can simply tell yourself not to have; it’s something you should try to avoid.

[3] Teachers and parents constantly tell us to be ourselves, but many of us have no idea who we really are. Those around us will always influence the choices and decisions we make.So how do you break the pattern? How can you pull away from the trends of today and make something that’s truly your own?

[4] First, you need to gather up some courage, because being different from everyone else can be a little nerve-racking(令人緊張的).

[5] Secondly, if you want to get anywhere, you must stop comparing yourself to others.Set aside any insecurity, because when it all comes down to it, you are who you are, and that’s all you will ever be.

[6] Others will always influence you, and that’s OK; it’s human nature. But don’t become a clone just so you can get to the top of the social pyramid.

[7] It will be tough at first, but if you show others that you are confident in yourself, I can tell you firsthand that they will become more accepting of the way you are.

[1]Perhaps you are an average student with average intelligence. However, you can receive better grades if you want. Yes, even students with average intelligence can be top students without additional work. Here's how:

[2]Plan your time carefully. Make a list of your weekly tasks. Then make a schedule of your time. Be sure to set aside enough time to complete your normal reading and work assignments. Of course, studying shouldn't occupy all of the free time on the schedule.

[3]Make good use of your time in class. Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Take notes to help you remember what the teacher says.

[4]Skim before you read. Look over a passage quickly before you begin to read it more carefully. As you preview the material, you get some idea of the content and how it is organized. Later when you begin to read you will recognize less important material and you may skip some of these portions. Skimming helps double your reading speed and improve your comprehension as well.

[5]          .Go over your notes as soon as you can after class. Review important points mentioned in class as well as points you remain confused. If you know what the teacher will discuss the next day, skim and read that material, too. If you review your notes and textbook regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer. Regular review leads to improved performance on tests.

[6]Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't worry excessively (過分地) about a single test.

[7]There are other techniques that might help you with your studying. Improving your studying habits will improve your grades.

Today, due to numerous medical and scientific advances, people are living longer than ever before. But you have to be good to your body, mind, and soul. The following tips are a good start for getting you on your way to living a long and healthy life. Eat a balanced diet -- one that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fiber and low in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol. A well-balanced diet can provide your body with the essential nutrients needed to achieve and maintain optimum (最佳的) health.

Be physically active -- try to incorporate 30 minutes of activity into your day, every day. The options are endless; start walking on the beach in the mornings, try jogging with a friend, or go for a bike ride in the afternoons. Make sure you choose activities that you enjoy, that way you'll be more likely to make them a habit. Get regular preventive check-ups --see your doctor regularly; remember your doctor is your partner in health care. By having regular check-ups, you may be able to catch small problems before they become big ones. Be safe -- use common sense and be streetsmart (適應(yīng)都市生活的). Don't put yourself in situations that are questionable. Always wear your seatbelt and bike helmet. Don't go for a run, walk, or jog at night by yourself. Keep your home well lit and free of things that could make you fall. Stay in touch with family and friends -- get to know your neighbors. Take the time to be involved with your community. By creating a strong social network, you will not only have friends to celebrate with when good things happen, but also a support system in difficult times. Keep a positive attitude -- studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude tend to live longer, and lead healthier and happier lives. Try to find the humor in life. And remember to laugh.

[1] If you read a newspaper or listen to a newscast(news report) recently, you may hear or read a strange word, “staycation.” Staycation is a new word the American press(newspapers, radio, and television) is using to describe a vacation very close to your own home, or simply staying at home during your vacation. It is a combination of the words “stay” and “vacation”.
