【題目】British towns and cities have rich experience in providing accommodation (膳宿) for students and there are many cheap, comfortable and safe places to live.
You should always try to arrange your long-term accommodation before leaving home. Your school should be able to help you with it. When you are accepted by a school, you will usually receive a package of information including accommodation information. Complete the accommodation application form and return it before the deadline. If the school accommodation is not available, the accommodation advisory(顧問(wèn)的) office of your school can help you find private accommodation.
If you’re coming to the UK for the first time, accommodation provided by your school might be the most suitable choice. This is a choice taken by more than half of the international students. There are plenty of advantages of living in accommodation provided by the school: you can live close to where you are studying; you will get to know other students easily; and most importantly, you will be living in a safer environment. This kind of accommodation is also affordable: a room in a self-catering(自己做飯的) student apartment usually costs from 180 to 360 pounds per month. To live in a place where meals are included you are expected to pay from 320 to 400 pounds per month.
If you choose to rent accommodation in private houses, the choices are lodging, private hostels (招待所) and bedsits(臥室兼起居室). In a lodging, your landlord / landlady lives in the same house, possibly with his / her family, and prepares meals for you. For hostel accommodation and lodgings where meals are included, you can expect to pay from 300 to 400 pounds per month. For a bedsit, you would pay from 200 to 380 pounds per month.

I was playing at my cousin house. Since his family was rich than mine, he had more toys than I did. There was one on particular I’d always wanted. I put into my pocket when he wasn’t looking. I guessed, even at that age, I would never be able to enjoy to playing with the toy or faced my cousin again; I would always know I’d done something wrong. Late on, my aunt drove me home. When she dropped me off, I pulled out the toy slow and gave it back. She knows what had happened, but she thanked me and ever mentioned it again.

Among my peers, the most common reasons to sit in front are: poor vision, poor hearing, and harder to fall asleep (my main reason).
That’s about it. I’ve sat in the back and I’ve sat in the front, and I’ve seen no difference in how professors treat me. In fact, I sat in the front of my math class and still fell asleep a lot. I went to office hours for that class regularly and asked the professor if it bothered him and he said he understood completely. I put in the work outside the classroom and performed well on exams, and that’s what ends up on the transcript (成績(jī)單).
From my experience, going to office hours regularly, emailing questions that may be beyond the scope of class just out of your own curiosity, and reading ahead of time so you can ask good relevant questions are the best ways to give a professor a good impression. Where I’ve sat in the classroom hasn’t noticeably affected a professor’s opinion of me in the slightest.
Typically, sitting at the front indicates to me that you want to hear everything I say and want to have more one-on-one questioning with me. Sitting in the middle suggests that you want to fit in, and will be better at group work. Sitting in the back usually means that you want to play with your phone. The people in the front seats will often get the highest grades, dropping as the rows go back. Yes, of course, this is a tendency and
I have not noticed where to sit has any effect on attentiveness, participation and respectful behavior. I have noticed though, that students who sit in the back row are almost always disrespectful and inattentive. I have not observed any correlation between achievement and seat location, even though when I was a student myself, I usually preferred to sit in the front.
【1】According to the author, the best ways to impress professors do NOT include _____.
A. preparing for the class in advance B. asking questions through emailing
C. going to office hours regularly D. sitting in the front in every class
【2】What is the author’s opinion of students sitting in the front?
A. They may be better at group work.
B. They may want to stay awake in class.
C. They want to play with their phones.
D. Their grades are always the highest.
【3】What is the author’s purpose of writing the passage?
A. To persuade students to sit in the front.
B. To analyze the advantages of sitting in the back.
C. To show the effect of seating on study results.
D. To discuss different seat locations in the class.

【題目】Our room was on the second floor but you could still hear the roar of the ocean and see the stars at night. I used to take long walks along the water. The food in town was wonderful and the people were very friendly. The area was very quiet and peaceful, and fairly deserted.
The last evening of our vacation, however, we all heard strange footsteps following closely behind us as we were walking up to our room in the holiday centre. We turned around and noticed a fairly young man moving very rapidly across the beach and getting closer to us. He was tall and wore a baseball cap. We couldn’t see his face and he was approaching us very rapidly. The man’s actions made my dad very nervous. Dad warned us that we’d better try to make it to our hotel room as quickly as possible. I didn’t like my dad’s voice; I could hear fear in it. It was late and we were all alone. We didn’t have any cell phones on us. I never saw Dad as worried as he was then and I knew that something was terribly wrong. The sense of fear started to overwhelm Mom and me. We had had such a good time in town. Now, the night was rapidly turning into a dangerous situation.

The so-called intruder (侵入者) had moved nearer and nearer when all of a sudden, the nearby vending(自動(dòng)販賣(mài)) machine started going crazy and spitting out cans of soda! The noise actually scared the intruder and he ran out of sight. During this summer holiday, my parent and I climbed Mount Huang. The weather was such fine that the three of us could enjoy the sunrise. At 4:00 the next morning we were already on a top. While waited for the sunrise, we were all excited. First a bit of pale light appeared the east. Suddenly, the sun came out, was looking like a large ball, but the sky became red. Late on, the sunlight became so strong that we couldn't look at it directly. In the afternoon, they said goodbye to Mount Huang, that made a good impression on me.

In 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen attempted to cut off the head of Mike, a chicken, so his wife could cook it up for dinner. However, the bird didn’t die and lived another year and a half, making regular trips to the fair, where people paid a quarter to see the amazing headless bird.

Visitors can learn about rattlesnakes, take a bus tour of their natural habitat, participate in a rattlesnake eating contest and so on.
