Sure, we've all heard that we should get more sleep. The realities of life often make it become "we should get more sleep later." 1. The result is that you wake up the next day feeling like a role of The Walking Dead. Here are four ways you can adjust your biology in order to pay less for staying up.

● Move around.

Exercising before bed is a sure way to keep awake. That's why you shouldn't do it when you want to go to sleep, and it is also why hitting the gym, or even some fast push-ups can tell your body that it's not time for bed. Being physically exhausted isn't fun when you are trying to stay up late. 2.

● Eat more protein.

Few people think about the fact that the brain and body use a lot more energy when we're awake. If you are pulling an all-nighter, you're going to need a lot more food than you are used to eating. 3. To stay awake, plan to eat larger meals than normal and to eat them more frequently.

● Drink the right stuff.

It's tempting (誘人) to switch to sugary caffeine drinks like Red Bull, but the sugar will lead to a crash. Instead, if you want to use caffeine, drink early in the evening so it'll wear off by the time you want to sleep.

4. Don't make it worse by drinking sugar.

● 5.

Turn the lights down at night because bright lights keep you awake. For three or four hours after you're exposed to bright white light, your body won't make melatonin, a must for deep sleep. You will sleep better if you turn the lights a little bit down.

A. Turn the lights off.

B. Avoid bright lights.

C. Just do enough to get energetic.

D. And your body can never bear something like that.

E. Your brain can use up to 25 percent of your total calories.

F. When you stay up late, your blood sugar becomes abnormal.

G. There is either more work to be done, or more fun to be had, or both.

1.G

2.C

3.E

4.F

Compassion is a desire within us to help others. With effort, we can translate compassion into actions. An experience last weekend showed me this is true. I work part-time in a supermarket across from a building for the elderly. These old people are out main customers, and it’s not hard to lose patience over their slowness. But last Sunday, one aged gentleman appeared to teach me a valuable lesson. This untidy man walked up to my register(收款機(jī))with a box of biscuits. He said he was out of cash (現(xiàn)金), had just moved into his room, and had nothing in his cupboards. He asked if we could let him have the food on trust. He promised to repay me the next day.

I couldn’t help staring at him. I wondered what kind of person he had been ten or twenty years before, and what he would be like if luck had gone his way. I had a hurt in my heart for this kind of human soul, all alone in the world. I told him that I was sorry, but store rules didn’t allow me to do so. I felt stupid and unkind saying this, but I valued my job.

Just then, another man, standing behind the first, spoke up. If anything, he looked more pitiable. “Change it to me, ” was all he said.

What I had been feeling was pity. Pity is soft and safe and easy. Compassion, on the other hand, is caring in action. I thanked the second man but told him that was not allowed either. Then I reached into my pocket and paid for the biscuits myself. I reached into my pocket because these two men had reached into my heart and taught me compassion.

1.The aged gentleman who wanted to buy the biscuits_________ .

A.hoped to have the food first and pay later

B.promised to obey the store rules

C.forgot to take any money with him

D.could not afford anything more expensive

2.Which of the following best describes the old gentleman?

A.kind and lucky B.friendly and helpful

C.poor and lonely D.hurt and disappointed

3.The writer acted upon the store rules because_________ .

A.he felt no pity for the old gentleman

B.he considered the old man dishonest

C.he expected someone else to pay for the old man

D.he wanted to keep his present job

4.What does the writer learn from his experience?

A.Wealth is more important than anything else

B.Experience is better gained through practice

C.Obeying the rules means more than compassion.

D.Helping others is easier said than done

China’s first moon rover,Yutu,or Jade Rabbit, separated from the lander early on Sunday,December l5,2013,several hours after the Chang’e-3 probe (探測(cè)器) soft-landed on the lunar surface. The l 40 kg six-wheeled rover touched the lunar surface at 4:35 a.m.,leaving deep trace on the loose lunar soil. The process was recorded by the camera on the lander and the images were sent to the earth, according to the Beijing Aerospace Control Center.

After the separation, the rover and lander will take photos of each other and start their own scientific explorations. Engineers made final checks of the environment of the landing site, the situation of the probe and sent signals of separation to Chang’e-3.

Yutu, on the top of the probe, extended its solar panel and started to drive slowly to the transfer mechanism (機(jī)械裝置) at 3:10.The transfer mechanism unlocked at 4:06 with one side reaching the moon’s surface, allowing the rover to descend to the surface following a ladder mechanism.

Chang’e-3 landed on the moon’s Sinus Iridum,or the Bay of Rainbows,at 9:11 p.m.Saturday,making China the third country in the world to carry out such a rover mission after the United States and former Soviet Union.

In ancient Chinese mythology,Yutu was the white pet rabbit of the lunar goddess Chang’e.The name for the rover was selected following an online poll that collected several million votes from people around the world.

Are you a saver or a spender?

"A penny saved is a penny earned." This old saying calls attention to the wisdom of saving money. "_________________________" is another way to talk about saving for the future.

People who hate to spend money are known as "tightwads," while those who like to get the most value for their money are called "thrifty." A thrifty person is different from a "spendthrift." A spendthrift is someone who spends wastefully. People like that are often said to spend money "like a drunken sailor" or "like there's no tomorrow."

In the United States, people who want to start a savings account have different choices of where to put their money. These include banks and credit unions. Credit unions are cooperatives for people who have some kind of connection. For example, the members might work for a university or a government agency. Most credit unions are nonprofit organizations.

Credit unions, banks and other financial institutions pay interest on savings accounts. But the interest rates are low. Certificates of deposit(存款證) pay higher returns. With a certificate of deposit, or CD, a person agrees not to withdraw the money for a certain period of time. This term could be anywhere from a few months to several years. Longer terms, and larger amounts, pay higher interest. People can withdraw their money early but they have to pay a fine.

In a number of countries, people have been saving less over the years. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is a group of thirty-four countries. The OECD says in 1990, Americans had a household savings rate of seven percent. This year, that rate is expected to be a little more than four percent and many European countries have higher rates like the UK and France , but Americans save more than families in countries like Japan and South Korea.

What exactly is a Dream Career? I am sure it means different things to different people. You could presently be unsure about what your final job would be. If you have any doubts about what your dream career is, you may know which careers you definitely would not like to do. For example, if you have an interest in art, and do not like math, you most certainly would not like being a mechanical engineer. If you love art, and have no artistic talent, maybe you would like to be around art instead, as an art curator(館長(zhǎng)).

A career related to your passion, hobby, or special interest, is the path to follow in finding your dream job. Try thinking about what things you like to do in your spare time. Many are attracted toward turning what they love to do in their off work hours into a full time job. For example, if you like to put together model cars, maybe you would like opening your own hobby shop, or work for someone who owns one.

Once you find what you are interested in doing, you can then match this to a career which will be similar to what you are passionate about. What you consider a dream career has to center around what kind of person you actually are. This is called your Career Personality. What type of person do you consider yourself to be? People are naturally attracted to those things which reflect who they are as unique individuals. For example, if you are slightly on the shy side, maybe you would like a job where you work on your own, relatively unsupervised, behind a computer. If you are outgoing, maybe you would like to work with others, and be the supervisor.

All it may take to find our dream career is to know ourselves a little better, trust in our own judgment, and be realistic about what we can attain occupationally. This is how I found what I am doing now.

1.What’s the main purpose of the passage?

A. To explain what a dream career really is.

B. To offer tips on finding a dream career.

C. To tell us what Career Personality means.

D. To give examples of different personalities.

2.Which of the following about Career Personality is TRUE?

A. One should choose a dream career by his/her personality.

B. Choosing a dream career depends on a person’s ability.

C. One should choose a dream career according to the reality.

D. One should try different types of careers by his/her ability.

3.Which of the following is what we need to find a dream career?

a. Realizing our ability.

b. Believing in ourselves.

c. Having a better understanding of ourselves.

d. Considering the background of our family.

A. a, c, d B. a, b, c

C. b, c, d D. a, c, d

A. your hobby B. your special interest
