8.Tech Breakthrough on Nib(筆尖) to Help China's Ballpoint Industry
With an annual production of 40billion ballpoint pens,Chinese ballpoint pen companies could finally end its total dependence on imports of high standard steel for pen nib as breakthrough technology on the part has been proven a success.
Beifa,a leading stationery brand in China,is testing out some pen refills (筆芯) made with"pen nib steel"for the sixth round.The refills have to be capable of writing 800 meters without a break under the same writing angle to pass the test.
Some other stationery brands like TrueColor have also started using the steel in their products.
The steel is likely to replace imported materials completely in two years.
Currently,more than 40billion ballpoint pens are produced in China annually by more than 3,000companies and 200,000workers.
The secret"pen nib steel"
A ballpoint is made up of a ball and a ball seat.The latter is the difficult part to produce,as the seat can only be made out of steel that is easy to cut but resistant to break while it is being made.
The core technique in producing such high-standard steel has been an industry secret only known to a small number of countries,including Japan and Switzerland.
China has to pay 15million US dollars every year to import more than 1,000tones of such steel for production.

Wang Huimian,a senior engineer with Taigang,said micro-elements are essential in turning raw steel into"pen nib steel"with perfect performance.To work out the right proportion of different elements,Wang said,Taigang's research team has conducted a massive number of experiments as they had no examples to follow or refer to.
After repeated failures,the company finally achieved success in a test in September 2016and later produced the first batch (批次) of pen nib steel with a diameter of 2.3mm.

63.What is the breaking news?B
A.40 billion ballpoint pens were produced last year.

4.Critical thinking is an important skill that can increase students'ability to learn in any situation.This can be applied to traditional education,or directly in a career related role.Many teachers find it such a valuable skill that they give their students a critical thinking question every day.Developing this ability can mean the difference between"just passing a course"and"understanding the material well enough"so that what students learn from it will follow them throughout their life.
Some characteristics of a critical thinker that teachers should encourage are;
-asking questions as a reaction to something read or discussed;
-determining the"deeper meaning"of a particular passage or topic;
-providing input and opinions to topics as a direct result of analysis and research;
-reasoning in an effort to develop an argument of your own opinion.
It is important for a student to understand more than definition(定義).One way to truly understand an idea is to have hands-on practice,and to apply concepts learned in a textbook.Such"mini-examples"will interest a student and improve their understanding of a topic.This is how life-long skills can be developed.
Teachers that use critical thinking practices in the classroom can"go above and beyond"by asking questions that promote a greater comprehension of the material.Instructors should be able to challenge students and create an environment where they are analyzing material and gaining a better understanding.This will make the classroom move in a direction for learning.It can also help students to stay interested in the course material,as they always have a new concept to consider.
At the same time,students benefit greatly from developing critical thinking skills.When learned early on,these skills can be used throughout their college education.Students can understand how to consider a topic,analyze it,and discuss it from different points of view.These are skills that will benefit them when they are part of the workforce as well.
52.Who are the intended readers of the passage?A
A.Teachers.B.Parents.
C.Examines.D.Headmasters.
53.Critical thinking can best be described asC.
A.a(chǎn) system to improve people's memory
B.a(chǎn) method to expand people's knowledge
C.a(chǎn) way to increase people's ability to understand
D.a(chǎn) process to make people more critical of others
54.The underlined word"it"in Paragraph 1refers toD.
A.the ability      B.the difference
C.the course       D.the material
55.The author thinks"mini-examples"are useful because theyB.
A.a(chǎn)ssist students to better remember definitions
B.give students hands-on practice
C.help to keep students interested
D.help students develop concepts.
