Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 AM. When I arrived to collect, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.
I walked to the door and knocked, "Just a minute," answered a weak, elderly voice.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.
I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the car.
She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing," I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated."
"Oh, you're such a good man." She said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?"
"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.
"Oh, I'm in no hurry," she said. "I'm on my way to a hospice(臨終醫(yī)院). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long."
I quietly reached over and shut off the meter(計(jì)價(jià)器).
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.
Sometimes she'd ask me to slow down in front of a particular building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
At dawn, she suddenly said,"I'm tired. Let's go now."
We drove in silence to the address she had given me.
"How much do I owe you?" she asked.
"Nothing." I said.
"You have to make a living," she answered. "Oh, there are other passengers," I answered.
Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held on to me tightly. Our hug ended with her remark, "You gave an old woman a little moment of joy."
【1】The old woman chose to ride through the city in order to ______.
A. show she was familiar with the city
B. see some places for the last time
C. let the driver earn more money
D. reach the destination on time
【2】The taxi driver did not charge the old woman because he ______.
A. wanted to do her a favor
B. shut off the meter by mistake
C. had received her payment in advance
D. was in a hurry to take other passengers
【3】What can we learn from the story?
A. Giving is always a pleasure.
B. People should respect each other.
C. An act of kindness can bring people great joy.
D. People should learn to appreciate others' concern.
【1】B
【2】A
【3】C
根據(jù)"Oh, I'm in no hurry," she said. "I'm on my way to a hospice(臨終醫(yī)院). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long."
【2】A
故選A.
【3】C
Our hug ended with her remark, "You gave an old woman a little moment of joy."

Social media and the mobile web have given rise to a strange phenomenon called the selfie(自拍). It refers to a picture of yourself, usually shared on any social networking website.
【1】Some selfies are extreme close-ups(特寫鏡頭), and others show part of an arm held straight outward. A few of them even feature the subject standing in front of a bathroom mirror.
Everyone takes selfies, but the younger crowd seems to be especially involved in the trend. Young people are relatively heavier digital users. They are interested in staying connected to their friends.【2】.
There are also kinds of psychological factors driving people to take a selfie and upload it to a social networking site.【3】 A quick and easy way to attract other's attention is to get "likes" and comments from friends. Secondly, it's human nature to show off your own great achievements. Attacking school fears
There are real fears and imagined ones. Most school dangers are imagined. 【1】 Many students have learned to fear teachers and classrooms, textbooks and tests. So first let’s determine what the fears are, and then attack them in a good problem-solving way.

B
One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem — inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the “Children's Room.” I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.
There on the book's cover was a beagle which looked identical to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very sl owly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated fr om his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together.
My mother's call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them.
I never told my mother about my “miraculous” (奇跡般地) experience that summer, but she saw a slow but remarkable improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and authored his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. The power of the words has held.
(1)The author's mother told him to borrow a book in order to _____.
A.help cure him of his reading problem
B.let him spend a meaningful summer
C.encourage him to do more walking
D.make him learn more about weapons
(2)The book caught the author's eye because _____.
A.it contained pretty pictures of animals
B.he found its title easy to understand
C.it reminded him of his own dog
D.he liked children’s stories very much
(3)Why could the author manage to read the book through?
A.He was forced by his mother to read it.
B.He identified with the story in the book.
C.The book told the story of his pet dog.
D.The happy ending of the story attracted him.
(4)What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author has had happy summers ever since.
B.The author's mother read the same book.
C.The author's mother rewarded him with books.
D.The author has become a successful writer.
