The Internet can be seen as a great source of information.

【答案】

The Internet can be seen as a great source of information. It offers us many options to acquire knowledge without stepping out of our houses. However, not all of the information is accurate and reliable. So we need to learn to tell true and untrue information apart.

First, if possible we can contact those who publish it to check. Or we can turn to teachers, parents or other professionals. We can also judge it by ourselves through experiments, reasoning, etc.

Do remember not to spread the information that hasn’t been proved or checked. As for true information, we should be cautious about spreading it to others, for it may be related to someone’s private life.

【解析】

【題目】The baby is just one day old and has not yet left hospital. She is quiet but alert (警覺). Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze(凝視) starts to lose its focus until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world?

Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise (同樣地) when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.

【1】The experiment described in Paragraph 1 is related to the baby’s__.

A. sense of hearing B. sense of sight

C. sense of touch D. sense of smell

2Babies are sensitive to the change in______.

A. the size of cards B. the colour of pictures

C. the shape of patterns D. the number of objects

3Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?

A. To reduce the difficulty of the experiment.

B. To see how babies recognize sounds.

C. To carry their experiment further.

D. To keep the babies’ interest.

4Where does this text probably come from?

A. Science fiction. B. Children’s literature.

C. An advertisement. D. A science report.

【題目】New York Wednesday, October fifteenth, is the first Global Hand Washing Day. Activities are planned in more than twenty countries to get millions of people in the developing world to wash their hands with soap.

Experts say people around the world wash their hands but very few use soap at so-called critical moments. These include after using the toilet, after cleaning a baby and before touching food.

Global Hand Washing Day is the idea of the Public-Private Partnership for Hand Washing with Soap. The goal, they say, is to create a culture of hand washing with soap. The organizers say all soaps are equally effective at removing disease-causing germs (病菌). They say the correct way to wash hands is to wet your hands with a small amount of water and cover them with soap. Rub it into all areas, including under the fingernails. Then, rinse well under running water. Finally, dry your hands with a clean cloth.

The Partnership says soap is important because it increases the time that people spend washing. Soap also helps to break up the dirt that holds most of the germs. And it usually leaves a pleasant smell, which increases the likelihood that people will wash again.

It also says washing with soap before eating and after using the toilet could save more lives than any medicine. It could help reduce cases of diarrhea (痢疾), which is the second leading cause of child deaths, killing more than one and a half million children a year, by almost half.

【1】The Partnership creates Global Hand Washing Day to _____.

A. call on people to wash hands

B. help the developing countries

C. make a culture of hand washing in the third world

D. promote the importance of soap in hand washing

【2】The following facts can explain why soap is important EXCEPT that _____.

A. soap gets people into the habit of washing hands

B. soap helps to get rid of more germs off hands

C. soap attracts people to do more hand washing

D. soap gives people a longer hand washing time

【3】 According to the last paragraph, diarrhea is a disease that _____.

A. kills half of the kids in developing countries

B. can be prevented by washing hands with soap

C. causes the greatest number of child deaths

D. makes soap stand out in hand washing

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning this fact. 1When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough opportunity to become strong. 2One of them exercises his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.If a friend complains that his arms are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky, and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak.3But all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means— practice.Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? 4It’s because those who cannot read or write have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a little notebook and they have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time 5.

A. What do you think of it?

B. Yet many people do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way.

C. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever.

D. So if you want a good memory, practice remembering.

E. Someone else says that he is poor in health.

F. Why is this?

G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.
