根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的七個(gè)選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

They Just Can't Help It

My theory is that the female brain is mainly built for empathy — the ability to understand other people — and that the male brain is mainly built for building systems. _1._ For example, women are more likely to read magazines on fashion and parenting, while men will choose magazines that feature computers and sport.

You may think that these preferences are influenced by the way people are taught to behave when they are growing up. However, this is not the case.

A new study carried out at Cambridge University shows that newborn girls look longer at a face, and newborn boys look longer at a mobile. _2.__ It has also been observed (that girls are better at noticing signs of changes in other people's feelings. Boys, however, seem to enjoy building toy towers and playing with toys which have clear functions. __3.__ People whose jobs are in the construction industries are almost male. Math and engineering, which require high levels of systems-thinking, are also male-chosen disciplines.

Why do men and women have the difference? Actually women have four times as many brain neurons (神經(jīng)) that connect the right and left part of their brains. Because of it, women have a better ability to multitask than men.

__4.__ Men tend to focus on a limited number of problems at a time. They will separate themselves from problems and view tasks as independent from one another.

Some people may worry that I am suggesting one gender (性別) is better than the other, but this is not the case. My theory says that males and females differ in the kinds of things that they find easy, but that both genders have their strengths and weaknesses. __5.__ It is not true. The study simply looks at males and females as two groups, and asks what differences exist, and why they are there.

A. Generally speaking, there are clear differences.

B. Their preference for building systems may change over time.

C. You can see the same kind of pattern in the adult workplace.

D. They will consider many sources of information at the same time.

E. It is important to stress that the female brain may be built more for empathy.

F. That suggests certain differences between male and female brains are biological.

G. Others may think the theory creates a belief of what a particular type of person is like.

Whatever one does, one should do it with confidence. Equipping with confidence, we can deal any challenges and difficulties until we succeed.

When I entered Senior 2, I found I had difficult learning English, and even failed in my English exam. As the result, I began to feel frustrating, losing confidence in myself. My parents were encouraged me, and my teachers gave me some valuable advice on my studies, told me to be confident. With his help, I regained my confidence and began to make steady progress.

As the saying go, “where there is a will, there is a way.” If we are to make a difference, we should build up our confidence, that is important if we want to overcome obstacles and finally achieve our goals.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2016屆寧夏回族自治區(qū)銀川市高三第二次模擬考試英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity. I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day's events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn't accumulating memories a way of preserving the past?

When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, well equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen...

At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary.

Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often only of objects I find really beautiful. I'm no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.

I don't want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won't have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I'll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don't live to make memories--I just live, and the memories form themselves.

1.Before the age of thirteen, the author regarded keeping a diary as a way of ________.

A. observing her school routine

B. expressing her satisfaction

C. impressing her classmates

D. preserving her history

2.What caused a change in the author's understanding of keeping a diary?

A. A dull night on the journey.

B. The beauty of the great valley.

C. A striking quotation from a book.

D. Her concerns for future generations.

3.What does the author put in her diary now?

A. Notes and beautiful pictures.

B. Special thoughts and feelings.

C. Detailed accounts of daily activities.

D. Descriptions of unforgettable events.

4.The author comes to realize that to live a meaningful life is ________.

A. to experience it

B. to live the present in the future

C. to make memories

D. to give accurate representations of it

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2016屆湖北武漢漢陽(yáng)一中高三2月調(diào)考模擬考試英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Yesterday I started the Year of Giving, my first day of a year-long journey into exploring the act of giving and the meaning of charity. I chose December 15 as the starting date, which marked three years since my mother died from heart disease. She was one of the most generous people that I have ever known. She always thought of others first and certainly serves as an inspiration to me.

I had a rather busy day yesterday, ironic(具有諷刺意義的) for someone who is unemployed right now. In the morning I went to the gym, and unsuccessfully got the phone call from the unemployment office for some job searching. Before I knew it, it was noon. I grabbed a quick lunch and rushed down to a meeting. On my way to Connecticut, I wondered if I would see someone that I would feel forced to give my first $10 to. I was running late and decided to do it afterwards.

After the meeting I had about half an hour to find the first person of my Year of Giving! I decided to check out Dupont Circle. I had met a guy there named Jerry once and thought he would willingly accept my first $10. He wasn’t there, but I did see a man sitting by himself who looked really lonely, so I approached him. Now I had to figure out what I was going to say. I think I said something like, “Hi, can I sit down here?” “I would like to know if I could give you $10?” He asked me to repeat what I had said. I did, then he looked at me funny, got up and left.

I then started walking south where I spotted a man standing by the bus stop on Connecticut Ave. He appeared to be in his 60s. I don’t know what drew me to him, but I thought I would make my second attempt. I was a bit nervous and asked him which bus came by that stop. Then I explained that I was starting a year-long project to give $10 to someone every day and that I wanted to give my $10 for today to him. The gentleman, I later found out that his name was Ed, responded without hesitation that he could not accept my offer and that there were many people more deserving the money than him. This was exactly one of the things that I hoped would happen. People would think of others before themselves!

1. The author set the starting date on December 15 to .

A. help the charity

B. remember his mother

C. make an exploration

D. fulfill a wish of his mum

2. In the author’s first attempt to give away the money, .

A. he was considered ridiculous

B. he hesitated for a long time

C. he was forced to donate the money

D. he had no time to take action

3.In the author’s second attempt, the gentleman refused his offer because .

A. he didn’t need others’ help

B. he thought more for others

C. he didn’t care about money

D. he wanted to get more money

4.We can infer that the author was inspired by .

A. true friendship B. his own kindness

C. generous donations D.human’s good nature
