11.Most 20-year-olds are still trying to figure out what they want to do in life.Boyan Slat is not like that.Ever-since he was 16 years old,the Dutch teenager has had one mission 一 to clean up the trillions of pieces of plastic that are polluting our oceans and killing precious marine life.What's amazing is that this young man who started with what sounded like a strange dream may actually be able to complete this huge task!
    Slat's first exposure to ocean garbage came during a diving vacation in Greece.The teenager was astonished to see that there was more plastic on the beaches than fishes in the sea.Upon completing high school,he stated to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an Aerospace Engineer.However,he could never remove the images of the plastic debris from his mind.
    So in 2013,Slat dropped out of college and established The Ocean Cleanup Foundation.Its mission was to create an environmentally friendly large-scale and efficient way to remove the plastic pollution from aquatic ecosystems (水生生態(tài)系統(tǒng)),while increasing awareness by communicating this process intensively.
    Within a year,the determined youngster and his team of 100 volunteer scientists and engineers from around the world managed to come up with a 530-page study that laid out the technology and the financial needs for such a concept to be practical.
    Called the"Ocean Cleanup Project",it did not require chasing after every piece of floating plastic.Instead,the plan focused on the five"garbage"patches that have been accumulated by ocean currents or gyres(渦流) in specific areas.According to experts,the five have about 5.25 trillion of the 8 trillion pieces of plastic estimated to be floating around the world's oceans today.
    Slat's team thought that if we create a stationary (固定的)collection area around each one,the plastic could be picked up in an economicaJ and efficient manner.The plan was convincing enough to help the team raise close to﹩2.2million in a crowdfunding campaign.

9.The Regional Director of the National Heritage Conservation Commission (國家遺產(chǎn)保護委員會) Kagosi Mwamulowe said the Barotse Plains is unique and it deserves to be on the list of the World Heritage Sites.
       Mr.Mwamulowe said the Barotse Plains deserves to be included on the World Heritage List because it has a rich cultural heritage which includes the burial sites of former kings.
       The Director said he hoped that the landscape would be declared as a heritage site next year in June.He also said it was important to protect Zambia's unique culture for education and entertainment.
       Chief Natural Heritage Officer Muyumbwa Ndiyoi said there will be a lot of benefits when the Barotse Landscape is declared a World Heritage Site because it will attract many tourists and business investments (投資) will increase.
       Mr.Ndiyoi said the site will also benefit young people as knowledge will be passed down from generation to generation.
       He was reacting to a question from Nalolo District Labour Officer Jason Ngoma who wanted to know how the people of Western Province will benefit once the Barotse Landscape is declared a World Heritage Site.
       And University of Zambia Lectur er Charles Namate said there is a need for the site to be included on the World Heritage List because 50 years after its independence Zambia only has one heritage site,which is the Victoria Falls.
       Lecturer Namate said the Barotse Landscape was facing a lot of environmental degradation (惡化),and that's why there is a need to recognize the value of its landscape and the memories of dead kings.
       The National Heritage Conservation Commission together with the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs are in Western Province to hold meetings with Heads of Government Departments.The Commission also held closed-door meetings with the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II of the Barotse Royal Establishment.
