【題目】The world seems gloomy (陰沉的) and gray when you’re feeling blue. In fact, being down might even affect how you perceive (感知) the colour blue. A recent study about colour was published in the journal Psychological Science. It shows a direct connection between a person’s ability to perceive colour and their emotions.

Psychologists have long known that emotions can affect the way people perceive things. That’s in part because chemicals from your brain might affect how you process what you see. “Color is such an important part of our experience,” says lead author Christopher Thorstenson, a psychologist at the university of Rochester, in New York. There’s reason, he says, that sad people commonly describe the world as “colourless” and “gray”, and happy people use words like “bright” and “colorful”.

In the experiment, the researchers randomly assigned people to one of two groups. People in the sadness group watched a sad scene from The Lion King. Those in the “amusement” group watched a comedy.

Everyone was then asked to look at red, yellow, green, and blue patches (斑點) that had been changed to a grayish colour. “Some of the patches are pretty difficulty to make out,” Thorstenson admits he says it takes some time to figure out their shade. People were scored on how accurate their colour perception was. Then they completed an emotional evaluation.

The result? Sad people had a hard time seeing the difference between shades along the blue-yellow colour axis (色軸). But they did not have problems seeing colours in the red-green spectrum (光譜). Thorstenson says this could be the result of an evolutionary need to see red as a response to anger.

Thorstenson says these results highlight the possible important of dopamine in sight. Dopamine is a chemical that sends signals to the brain. Researchers are hoping to focus more on dopamine in the future. “We know dopamine affects how we see colours, too,” Thorstenson says “How we feel can really influence how we see the world around us” he says.

1According to paragraph 2, how people describe the world reflects ________.

C. their world view D. their language skills

2In the experiment, the participants were asked to watch different programs so as to ________.

A. check their feelings B. influence their moods

B. To make them hard to recognize

C. Because it changed the participants’ attitudes

D. Because it was good for the participants’ eyes

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項為多余選項。
It is necessary but difficult for English beginners to memorize new words, and long lists of words seem to make the mission impossible. They are puzzled why they try to memorize words with great efforts but forget them easily. That's why there are often inquiries about how to memorize new words.
Here are some tips to help.
We too often separate the process of new words memorization from pronunciation. In fact these two can be combined and each will enhance the other. Saying the word to ourselves helps activate aural(hearing) memory, which helps the memory. The more familiar we are with the word,
the greater chance we will have to keep it for the rest of our life.
Never memorize single English words. Relate the word to terms we already know, either as synonym or antonym. For example, the word "gargantuan" is similar in meaning to words "gigantic", ”huge" and "large". Make a sequence of words: "small, medium, large, gigantic, and gargantuan".
Create a mental image of the word that involves strong emotions. Think, "The gargantuan whale is going to swallow me whole".
Learning English words requires action. Complaining how difficult it is to memorize new words will be of little help. Have a try with ten words a day and you will see what a difference you will make in our English learning.
A. So take action right now.
B. Speak the word while memorizing it.
C. Memorizing new words is very important.
D. Actually, some have given up learning new words.
E. In fact, learning new words needn't be that difficult.
F. Make as many associations and connections as possible.
G. The sound of word helps us recall the spelling and familiarizes us with the word.

【題目】Something’s happening at the lowest point on our planet.

The Dead Sea, a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west, is shrinking(縮小) at an alarming rate-----about 3.3 feet per year, according to the environmentalist group EcoPeace Middle East. And human actions are largely to blame.

“It’s not just like one country is punishing the Dead Sea; it’s more like the whole area,” said photographer Mortize Kustner, who visited the area in February to work on his series “The Dying Dead Sea”.

The Dead Sea needs water from the other natural sources surrounding it, such as the Jordan River basin. But around the 1960s, some of the water sources it relied on were diverted(使改道).Israel, for instance, built a pipeline during that time so it could supply water throughout the country.

Mineral extraction(開采) industries are another main reason the water levels are falling, experts say. The Dead Sea’s minerals have been used as medicine and can often be found in cosmetics(化妝品) and other consumer products.

And then, of course, there’s the Middle East’s hot, dry climate, which makes it difficult for the lake to replenish itself.

Last year, Israel and Jordan signed a $900 million deal in an effort to keep the Dead Sea’s water levels stable(穩(wěn)定). It includes building a canal from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea which would be able to not only supply water to Israel and Jordan but also to pump water into the Dead Sea.

But for now, Kustner shows us that the Dead Sea remains very much a place of interest, with people from all over the world going there to swim in its salty waters.

The Dead Sea, known as the Salt Sea in the language of Hebrew, is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. And because of what has been happening over the years, the salt is only getting saltier.

1Which of the following is NOT a reason for the Dead Sea’s shrinking mentioned in the text?

A. Some of its water sources being diverted.

B. The extraction of the minerals in the sea.

C. Visitors from all over the world swimming in it.

D. The hot, dry climate in the Middle East.

2What can we learn about the Dead Sea’s minerals?

A. They have practical value.

B. They are controlled by Israel.

C. They can be extracted very easily.

D. They are mainly used in heavy industries.

3What does the underlined word “replenish” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?

A. To clean something. B. To improve something.

C. To fill something again. D. To find something again.

4What would be the best title for the text?

A. What we should do to save the Dead Sea

B. More people travel to the Dead Sea

C. Why the Dead Sea is salty

D. The Dead Sea is drying out.
