【答案】

Dear David,

Im glad to receive your e-mail and happy to know that you are interested in learning Chinese. It is well known that Chinese is difficult to learn. One cant avoid making a mistake when learning a foreign language.

Here are some tips on how to learn Chinese. First, don't be afraid to make mistakes. Making mistakes is a good way to learn how to say things right. Second, if you know a Chinese friend, ask he or she to practise with you. Third, you should spend more time practising listening to and speaking Chinese frequently.

I wish you success in learning Chinese. I am expecting to hear from you. At last, I welcome you to come to China.

Yours,

【解析】

試題分析:本文結構緊湊,層次分明,而且使用了多種句式和結構。例如 spend sometime doing something, success in doing something, expect to do something這些都是固定搭配用的比較好。另外在書信的開頭用的定語從句較好。Im glad to receive your e-mail and happy to know that you are interested in learning Chinese. It is well known that Chinese is difficult to learn.

【題目】閱讀理解

I wasn’t surprised when I read that actress Helen Hunt recently stated that she would never allow her young daughter to become a child star. Ms Hunt is the daughter of a Hollywood technical director, and grew up in Hollywood. Now in her late 40s, she started acting and modeling when she was eight and has probably seen a lot over those years in show business.

She has had a successful career. She earned four Golden Globes and four Emmys. She also attained the top honor of her profession when she won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in the 1992 movie, As Good As It Gets. Given those accolades, Ms Hunt is successful. There is no doubt that her early experiences as a child star prepared her for what has been an outstanding adult career. Given those achievements, why would this star declare she’ll never allow her daughter, now at the age of six, to follow in her footsteps?

Everyone familiar with the entertainment scene is aware of the reasons for her attitude. Recent tabloid (小報) news headlines featuring the troubles of former child stars, among them Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and the late Gary Coleman, may answer the question. Although Ms Hunt managed to become a successful grown-up star, she apparently believes she’s an exception.

What Ms Hunt may be suggesting is that many very young stars go through unnatural childhoods on movie and TV sets. While they’re earning big incomes, they’re so pampered (縱容) by directors and praised by fans; they may get false impressions that their lives will always be that way. Then, within a few years, when faced with reality, they’re hurt and confused. After all the overwhelming affection, they find they can’t deal with the problems. That’s often when drugs and alcohol take over their lives.

Helen Hunt has some other reasons why she doesn’t want her daughter to be in the entertainment business. Many child stars can never make a successful transition to meaningful adulthood. However, as with many Hollywood movies, I believe there are both good and bad scenes about how it can be played out in real life.

【1】 According to the passage, Ms Hunt _________.

A. started acting and modeling when she was a little girl

B. has been acting for about 30 years

C. is the daughter of a famous actor

D. started singing when she was eight

【2】 The underlined word “accolades” in Paragraph 2 probably means “_________”.

A. difficulties B. awards

C. salaries D. opinions

【3】 The author thinks Helen Hunt’s success is mainly due to _________.

A. her hard work

B. the help of a technical director

C. her experiences as a child star

D. her talent and good luck

【題目】I am Henry Jekyll. I was born in the 1800s. I inherited(繼承) a large fortune, a healthy body and an excellent mind. I was naturally hard-working and soon I was very successful in my job. So the outside world saw a serious, hard-working, successful doctor. Behind this quiet character, however, was a wild, fun-loving, irresponsible young man. Both of them were me. They lived together in the same body.

“Was it possible,” I wondered, “to find a drug that could give each side of my character its own separate face and body?”

After much thought and careful study I believed I had found the answer. I had read many scientific books and spent many hours in my laboratory, searching for the right mixture of chemicals to make my drug. At last I got everything ready.

Late one night, I mixed everything together and prepared my drug. I watched the smoke rising from the liquid as its color changed from red to purple and at last to green. Then, bravely, I drank every bitter drop.

I felt a violent sickness in my stomach and a terrible pain in all my bones. The room seemed to turn round and round and I trembled with fear. Then the fear and pain disappeared and a strange, sweet feeling took its place. Wild thoughts danced through my mind—the wild passions of an evil and cruel stranger. But inside myself I felt younger, lighter, more carefree than ever before. “If this is pure evil,” I thought, “I like it.”

I stood there, enjoying these strange new thoughts and passions and suddenly realized that I was shorter. So I decided to go to my bedroom in my new body and take a look at myself in the mirror there. As I came into my room, I saw Edward Hyde for the first time.

At that time, the good side of my character was stronger than the evil side. Henry Jekyll had his faults, but he was mostly a good, kind man. I believe that is the reason why Edward Hyde was so much smaller than Henry Jekyll. But that was not the only difference between the two men. Henry Jekyll had a kind, open, honest face. But pure evil stared out of Edward Hyde’s eyes. I felt no dislike, however. Indeed, I welcomed him. Edward Hyde was me, young and strong and full of life.

1In others’ eyes, the writer was ______.

A. wild and successful B. fun-loving and responsible

C. quiet and irresponsible D. serious and hard-working

2The writer wanted to find a drug to ______.

A. discover the right mixture of chemicals

B. create separate bodies for both sides

C. observe the change of the chemicals

D. make himself smaller but stronger

3From the passage we can learn that the writer ______.

A. felt quite delighted right after taking the drug

B. preferred kind Henry to pure evil Edward

C. was very sick of the shorter Edward Hyde

D. was satisfied with both of his bodies[
