At the age of 5, I was fascinated by the beautiful sound of piano. Without hesitation, my father bought me one with his lifetime savings. Every day I would practice it over and over again as my father demanded. Before long , I had transferred my interest in the piano to some other things so I began to avoid practicing as much as I could. My father realized this. He encouraged me and was stricter with me than before. With his help, I went through the hardest time and devoted myself to the piano.

Here I sincerely express my gratitude to my father. Without him, I couldn’t have gained so much success. On the journey of life, our parents have kindled the light of hope for us. What they have done  enriches our mind and broaden our view. No one deserves bigger thanks than our parents.

Would you eat a ready meal from the fridge rather than cook by yourself? Have you been doing Internet shopping rather than going to the stores? What can't you be bothered to do?

A study into how lazy British people are has found more than half of the adults are so idle (懶散的) that they'd catch the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs.

Just over 2000 people were quizzed by independent researchers at Nuffield Health, Britain's largest health center. The results were extremely surprising.

About one in six people questioned said if their remote control was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.

More than one third of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus. Worryingly, of the 654 respondents with children, 64% said they were often too tired to play with them.

This led the report to conclude that it's no wonder that one in six children in the UK are classified as obese (very fat) before they start school.

Dr Sarah Dauncey, medical director of Nuffield Health, said, “People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of their families, friends and evidently their pets too.”

“If we don't start to take control of this problem, a whole generation will become too unfit to perform even the most fundamental tasks.”

And Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, was shamed as the most idle city in the UK, with 75% questioned admitting they do not get enough exercise, followed closely by Birmingham and Southampton, both with 67%.

The results bring serious challenges for the National Health Service, where obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been on a steady increase for the past 40 years and are costing billions of pounds every year.

60.How many people questioned don't play with their children?

       A.1280.    B.More than 333.      C.654.     D.About 420.

61.The study leads us to believe that      .

A.the pets in the UK will be in trouble if their owners keep their way of life

B.Glasgow people feel ashamed because they don't get enough exercise

C.British people are the laziest around the world

D.five sixths of the British children are healthy

62.How does the author convince the readers?

A.By presenting the results of a study.                  B.By providing answers to questions.

C.By interviewing some experts.                            D.By telling a story.

63.What is the passage mainly about?

A.A study of British people's laziness.                  B.A study of British people's lifestyles.

C.The health service in the UK.                       D.The obesity problem in the UK.

“Mummy, I don’t know what to play with. ” Steve interrupts his mother, who is talking to a friend, for the fourth time. “You’ve got a room full of toys!” his mother says, impatiently, In fact it is the jumble of toys which is to blame for four -year-old Steve's lack of interest in his dolls, cars and stuffed (packed)animals. Each morning he tips out three washing baskets of toys all over his floor, listlessly pulls out something and shortly after is standing at his mother’s desk or following her into the kitchen saying: “Mummy, I am bored.”

A family therapist(治療專家)explains why children lose interest when they have a whole “toy shop” at home : “According to their brain development, little children are not in a position to judge the quality of a variety of things at once. There is always just one favorite toy for the moment. All the rest is left lying about.” What can parents do to stop their children from being oversupplied with toys? Under no conditions simply make something disappear without the child’s knowledge. If he/she takes no more notice of a toy, a parent can ask if it can be stored or given away. Be warned though the child will help. Lyn is the mother of four-year-old Jessie, and holds the toys and books that are the current(at present)favorites. When it seems to her that her daughter is tired from a cupboard in another room. The box of “old” toys goes into the cupboard. When her child says she is “bored”, they also get something from her cupboard—it may be something she has had for some time but because she hasn’t seen it for a while it is almost like a new toy.

Some favorite toys stay out all the time, and there is collection of dolls which sits in the comer, but in this way Lyn has found that she has fewer toys to put away at the end of the day and her daughter always has something “fresh” to play with.

Do you have a sore throat, a running nose and a headache? Do you keep coughing and sneezing? If you do, the chances are that you have a cold or perhaps flu — but which one? Although both colds and flu are caused by viruses, they are very different illnesses.

Colds, which usually last about a week, affect the nose most. They commonly cause a running nose and sneezing. Sometimes, they cause a headache, a cough and slightly aching muscles.

Flu is a much more serious illness and is caused by different group of viruses. People with flu usually get all the symptoms described above. However, they also get a high fever, a dry cough and much worse aching. Fever is one of the characteristic symptoms of the flu for all ages. The symptoms also last much longer. Sometimes they don’t disappear for at least two weeks.

Flu can be a deadly disease. The elderly, who are weaker and less healthy than most younger people, can die from flu. This is one reason why old people are advised to have a flu injection (預(yù)防針) before the start of winter when flu is most common. This injection is inexpensive and definitely worth it.

If you have a cold or flu, you must always deal with used tissues (紙巾)carefully. Don’t leave dirty tissues on your desk or on the floor. Someone else has to pick these up and viruses could be passed on. And finally, remember to cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze! You don’t want to see the small drop of liquids blown out of your nose and mouth when you sneeze, do you? Disgusting, eh?
