使用its代替本句的主語(yǔ)the kangaroo,因?yàn)樗莿?dòng)物,所以使用it。
【10】is running考察時(shí)態(tài)。本句是一個(gè)直接引語(yǔ),所以使用現(xiàn)在進(jìn)行時(shí),表示正在進(jìn)行的事情。

Celebrating Sleep
World Sleep Day, observed on 21 March, was created to bring attention to the growing number of sleep problems worldwide. Sleep is a natural part of human life, but many people in the modern world ignore its importance. As a result, sleep problems are increasingly common. In 2002, scientists at the University of Athens in Greece conducted a survey of over 35,000 people in 10 countries around the world, including China, Belgium and South Africa. Of the people that responded to the survey, 24 percent said that they did not sleep well, and based on their responses, 31.6 percent were diagnosed with insomnia(失眠) and another 17.5 percent were diagnosed with borderline(邊界線) insomnia. In addition, 30.7 percent of survey respondents reported visiting a doctor for help with sleep problems and 11.6 percent said that they felt very sleepy during the day.
Overall, the survey found that many people suffer the effects of poor quality sleep, some examples of which are being unable to fall asleep and waking up in the middle of the night. The main factors causing these problems are pressure from school or work and a fast pace of life, but noise pollution and light pollution also interfere with sleep and contribute to poor quality sleep. The survey’s findings are particularly troubling because large numbers of people were found to have difficulty sleeping at night. The short-term effects of this are tiredness and trouble concentrating. If this happens for a long time, the risk of gaining weight and having a heart attack may increase.
There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. First, you should have regular sleep habits. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. You also need to make your bedroom a cool, dark, quiet place to sleep so that heat, light and noise do not disturb you. At night, you should also avoid things that contain caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee, tea and many soft drinks, as caffeine may keep you from sleeping.
Getting a good night’s sleep is important for everyone. By following the advice above, you can rest better at night and work better during the day.

【題目】Ever walked to the shops only to find, once there, you’ve completely forgotten what you went for? Or struggled to remember the name of an old friend? For years we’ve accepted that a forgetful brain is as much a part of aging as wrinkles and gray hair. But now a new book suggests that we’ve got it all wrong.
According to The Secret Life of the Grown-up Brain, by science writer Barbara Strauch, when it comes to the important things, our brains actually get better with age. In fact, she argues that some studies have found that our brain hits its peak between our 40s and 60s — much later than previously thought.
Furthermore, rather than losing many brain cells as we age, we keep them, and even produce new ones well into middle age. For years it’s been assumed that brain, much like the body, declines with age. But the longest, largest study into what happens to people as they age suggests otherwise.
This continuing research has followed 6,000 people since 1956, testing them every seven years. It has found that on average, participants performed better on cognitive (認(rèn)知的) tests in their 40s and 50s than they had done in their 20s. Specifically, older people did better on tests of vocabulary, verbal memory (how many words you can remember) and problem solving. Where they performed less well was number ability and perceptual speed — how fast you can push a button when ordered. However, with more complex tasks such as problem-solving and language, we are at our best at middle age and beyond. In short, researchers are now coming up with scientific proof that we do get wiser with age.
Neuroscientists are also finding that we are happier with aging. A recent US study found older people were much better at controlling and balancing their emotions. It is thought that when we’re younger we need to focus more on the negative aspects of life in order to learn about the possible dangers in the world, but as we get older we’ve learned our lessons and are aware that we have less time left in life: therefore, it becomes more important for us to be happy.
【1】Barbara Strauch probably agrees that ______.
A. people’s brains work best between their 40s and 60s
B. the young are better at handling important things
C. aging leads to the decline of the function of the brain
D. wrinkles and gray hair are the only symbols of aging
【2】The continuing research has found older people perform better on ______.
A. perceptual speed B. vocabulary tests
C. number ability D. body balance
【3】People are happier with aging because ______.
A. they know how to share feelings
B. they learn to value the time left
C. they cannot focus on negative aspects
D. they do not realize the possible dangers
【4】What is the main idea of the passage?
A. People get happier with age.
B. People get more self-aware with age.
C. People get wiser with age.
D. People get more forgetful with age.

How to Help a Teenager Make Good Decisions
Habitually poor decision making is actually common in teenagers. Naturally, such a habit makes parent-teen cooperation difficult, especially when a parent wants his teen to do what a " responsible adolescent" would do. A poor decision-making teenager can never run away from his responsibilities. 【1】
● Distinguish real problems from acts of pure "teenagerism". Teens often make poor decisions simply because they don-t have the experiences. By making small and harmless mistakes, like a recently- developed habit of careless consuming, a teen learns good decision-making skills on his own via self-correction.__ 【2】 Don't think the teen is making bad decisions just to challenge you. It's more likely it is out of a real inability to determine what's best for him.
● 【3】 Tell your teen you understand his decisions while simply emphasizing that you don't have to agree with his decisions or treat his views as valid. By not judging his opinions, tastes or style, you are opening the road for better communication and problem solving opportunities.
- Set clear expectations. 【4】 For example, if your teen refuses to study for his math final because "math is pointless," explain that you expect him to perform well in school, even in the "pointless" classes. Because you've already tolerated his opinion without trying to change his viewpoint, you two can easily agree that math isn't so useful, yet avoid saying "Let's just give up on math, then."
● Find a middle ground. Trade insignifican freedoms, such as clothing style for the promise that he'll live up to academic and family responsibilities. 【5】_ Not only does giving up a bit of control solve many conflicts, but the extra freedom you give him can also improve his decision-making.
A.Show tolerance.
B. Learn to solve problems.
C. Point out your expectations and his responsibilities.
D. If your teen could realize it, allow him to be himself.
E. A responsible adolescent must have role models to learn from.
F. Therefore, it’s important to guide them with problem-solving strategies.
G. Next time, he'll be more likely to think twice before making his buying decision.

【題目】“The first and best of victories for a man is to conquer himself; to be conquered by himself is, of all things, the most shameful,” says Plato. Self-control is at the root of all the advantages. Let a man give in to his impulses (沖動(dòng)) and feelings, and from that moment he gives up his moral freedom.
A single angry word has lost many friends. When Socrates found in himself any temper or anger, he would check it by speaking low in order to control himself. If you are conscious of being angry, keep your mouth shut so that you can hold back rising anger. Many a person has dropped dead in great anger. Fits of anger bring fits of disease. “Whoever the gods would destroy, they first make them mad.” “Keep cool,” says Webster, “anger is not argument.” “Be calm in arguing,” says George Herbert, “for fierceness (狂怒) makes error a fault.”
To be angry with a weak man is to prove that you are not strong yourself. “Anger,” says Pythagoras, “begins with foolishness and ends with regret.” You must measure the strength of a man by the power of the feelings he conquers, not by the power of those which conquer him.
Self-control is man’s last and greatest victory.
If a man lacks self-control he seems to lack everything. Without it he can have no patience, no power to govern himself; he can have no self-confidence, for he will always be controlled by his strongest feeling. If he lacks self-control, the very backbone and nerve of character are lacking too.
【1】What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Self- control is important for a man.
B. We should learn to be strong.
C. A man who keeps cool won’t lose any game.
D. The great heroes in history knew how to control themselves.
【2】What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. If you are mad, the gods will fail you.
B. If you lose your temper first, gods will fail you first.
C. If you can’t control yourself, you will be crazy.
D. If the gods want to fail you, they will make you mad first.
【3】Which of the following is NOT true, according to passage?
A. The first and best of victories for a man is to conquer himself.
B. You will make a small mistake serious if you don’t keep cool.
C. You must measure a man’s strength by the power of the feelings which conquer him.
D. Anger begins with foolishness and ends with regret.
【4】Which of the following can’t help you avoid anger, according to the passage?
A. Being calm in arguing.
B. Checking your temper or anger by speaking low.
C. Keeping your mouth shut.
D. Trying to make the other angry first.
