【題目】 There's been increased attention on this in recent weeks, with the unsettling spread of the coronavirus around the world. When a video of Naomi Campbell cleaning her airplane seat and wearing a mask and gloves was shared online last year, it made the rounds because her behavior seemed exaggerated. “ 1 And we know that germs can live on surfaces for a long time, so it doesn't hurt to clean it," said Aaron Milstone, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Here are some tips for cleaning your area of a plane and keeping healthy on a flight.

Keep your hands clean and stop touching your face

"Wiping down surfaces on a plane won't hurt, as long as it doesn't give you a false sense of security,” Andrew Mehle, associate professor of medical microbiology said, stressing that cleaning your space on a plane should be done in conjunction with washing hands and following other best practices. Good habits are not easily formed. 2 Doing so after touching a surface where droplets from when someone sneezed or coughed can lead to the virus being passed on.

3

A study from Emory University found that during flu season, the safest place to sit on a plane is by a window. Researchers studied passengers and crew members on 10 three-to-five-hour flights and observed that people sitting in window seats had less contact with potentially sick people.

Disinfect hard surfaces

When you get to your seat and your hands are clean, use disinfecting wipes to clean the hard surfaces at your seat like the head and arm rest, the seatbelt buckle(帶扣), the remote, screen, seat back pocket and the tray table. If the seat is hard and nonporous (無孔的)or leather, you can wipe that down too. 4In addition, pay attention to your disinfecting wipes, which would typically say on the packaging how long asurface needs to stay wet in order for them to work.5 In order for the wipes to work, you need to follow those time requirements.

A.Choose a window seat.

B.A window seat is the best option.

C.The airplane and airplane seat is a public space.

D.Good habits arc essential in this particular time.

E.That time can range from 30 seconds to a few minutes.

F.Most people tend to touch their faces more often than they realize.

G.However, using wipes on cushions could lead to a wet scat and spreading of germs.

【題目】Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

Each of us has a time of the day when we’re at our best. For some, it’s the morning, and for others, the afternoon or evening. These times relate to what scientists call our circadian clock (生物鐘). 1

The research is the work of two authors, Aaron Schirmer and Benjamin Smarr. The pair used data from a university computer system to study the rhythms and activities of 15,000 students at Northeastern Illinois University between 2014 and 2016. They studied the data to see if there was a connection between the students’ schedules, their natural circadian clocks and their school performance.

2 But if students’ clock doesn’t agree with the rest of their lives, their performance was likely to suffer.

According to the study, those students who suffered from a mismatch underwent a kind of “social jet lag(時差)”. For example, some students performed best at night and therefore chose to study in the evening. But if those students had an early morning class, they often felt tired from late night studying and didn’t get the most out of the class. They might then go on to get a lower grade for exams and coursework. 3

The authors say mismatches between a student’s schedule and circadian clock can have a harmful effect, and not just in terms of academic performance. Social jet lag can also be bad for students’ health.

The authors don’t claim their study proves anything, but they do say that it provides food for thought for school administrators, who might like to think about special ways to help students who suffer on account of their schedules. 4

A.In addition, the findings alerted parents to their children’s sleeping patterns.

B.The study found that the closer a student’s schedule and their circadian clock, the better their grades were.

C.All students in the study suffered some degree of social jet lag, but late-night studiers suffered the most.

D.The clock genes create circadian rhythms in the body, which help control the timing of a variety of biological changes.

E.The findings could also help everyone to be aware, and hopefully take advantage, of their own biological rhythms to lead a healthy life.

F.Now, a new study suggests that the relationship between students’ circadian clocks and their study schedules can have a big effect on their grades.

【題目】Green therapy: how gardening is helping to fight depression

A growing movement is promoting the role gardening can play in patient recovery.

Sydenham Garden feels out of step with its surroundings in urban south London. Surrounded by houses on most sides, with a school on its doorstep, it is hard to imagine that this small patch of green space is bringing a new life to people struggling with their mental health. The site, run by the Sydenham Garden charity trust, is just under an acre and has a well-being centre with gardens, a nature reserve and activity rooms. Therapeutic(治療的)gardening activities are held weekly, and are run by experienced staff, who are in turn supported by a team of volunteers.

Christine Dow, 63, was originally referred to the garden by her GP to help overcome her depression. After a year of "green" therapy, she became a volunteer, for the past decade she has spent a few hours every week supporting others referred to the project.

During 2017-2018, Sydenham Garden received 313 patient referrals(轉(zhuǎn)診)from health professionals. A typical referral will be between 6 and 12 months. Most people referred will score in the low well-being category-according to the Warwick-Edinburgh scale-when starting, but score in the moderate well-being category upon completion. It is part of a growing movement devoted to increasing the role that gardening and other forms of "green" therapy cam play in patient recovery. It is also one of the 1,500 organizations signed up to Growing Health, a national project set up by the charity Garden Organic and the membership organization Sustain.

"Gardening is not for everyone," says Maria Devereaux, a project officer at Sustain. "But,increasingly now, we've got evidence that even people who aren't gardeners are able to harvest the benefits of being outside working with nature and all the things that come with it." Evidence collected by Growing Health found simply viewing a green space trough a window could help people relax and reduce stress levels. Other evidence confirmed that the physical activity of gardening could improve mental wellbeing.

【題目】 Last summer, bird-watchers confirmed the discovery of a new species of bird in Cambodia(柬埔寨): the Combodian tailorbird. It was not an event of particular biological significance but it was striking for one reason: This species of tailorbird was discovered not in an unspoiled rain forest but within the limits of Combodia’s capital, Phnom Penh.

We don’t typically think of the city as a likely habitat for natural life except rats and pigeons(鴿子), let alone as a hiding place for an undiscovered species of bird. But a new paper, published last week in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, proves it incorrect. A team of 24 researchers has studied birds and plants in 147 cities, and found that cities much more closely resemble their native habitats than they resemble each other.

It’s also true that in the world of birds and plants, as in human society, there is such thing as a world species who feels equally at home in Francisco, Milan and Beijing. Four birds appear in more than 80 percent of the cities studied, and 11 plants in more than 90 percent of the cities. On the plant side, those include meadow grass, shepherd’s purse, weeds. In the air, it’s the usual species: the pigeon, the house sparrow and the European starling(驚鳥). They all have become completely adapted to urban life.

However, not all cities are equal protectors of plants and animals, though. City design plays an important role in greening a city. In fact, the amount of green space is a stronger predictor of the biodiversity than a city’s size.

In a world where architecture, food, language, fashion and commerce are increasingly globalized, a city’s native plants and animals are considered as a kind of city identity. Cities tend to become similar, but their natural environments stand differently apart.

1What does the author think of the discovery of the Cambodian tailorbird?

A.It is just an exception.

B.It is a wonder for the Cambodians.

C.It is an amazing biological event.

D.It is very common in the world.

2Weeds and sparrows are found in many cities. This seems to be a result of ________.

A.complete adaption

B.natural selection

C.good urban design

D.rapid globalization

3We can learn that while cities tend to become similar, their natural environments ________.

A.are becoming worse

B.remain diverse

C.are expanding in size

D.stay unchanged

4What would be the best title for the text?

A.The Discovery of New Species of Bird in Cambodia

B.The Similarity of the Habitats in Different Cities

C.City’s Native Plants and Animals—A Kind of City Identity

D.City—Protector of Native Plants and Animals

The helicopter carrying Bryant and the others crashed into a hilly area in foggy conditions, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Family members, friends and fans are mourning the death of the basketball great Kobe Bryant. Looking back to his whole life, Bryant was widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of his generation. Even after his retirement, Kobe Bryant is still a winner. The former Los Angeles Lakers star won an Oscar in the animated short category for "Dear Basketball,” a poem he wrote after ending his 20-year career on the court in 2016.

He’ll add it to an already jammed trophy collection that includes five NBA championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals, NBA Finals most valuable player awards, a league MVP award and four All-Star game MVP awards.

Since hanging up his basketball shoes, Bryant has thrown himself into business (a new Nike shoe) and various forms of storytelling.

“As basketball players, we're told to shut up and dribble(運球),” Bryant once said on stage. “I’m glad we did a little bit more than that.”

He thanked his wife, Vanessa, and his three daughters, naming each of them. He spoke a few words of Italian — a language he learned as a child growing up in Italy — and closed by telling them, “You arc my inspiration.'

He was just getting started. And now he's gone.

【題目】Team Building

Almost no one can get away from “teams” that are supposed to be able to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. There are five measures that need to be taken before you can get the most out of a team:

1

There must be a clear reason for the team to exist. And all the members should realize the value and significance of their functions. What they are hoping to achieve should be something achievable but at the same time tough and inspiring enough to attract the members and keep their motivation alive.

Open Communication

2 For example, they may discuss a sensitive topic. Should they keep their conclusion within the team or share it with other employees? In the case, any individual voice is by no means a sure thing. So an honest discussion is expected to make sure all the members agree on.

Respect to All Team Members

It is easy to think that a junior team member may have less to contribute than more experienced ones. 3 People that have nothing to contribute should not have been selected for the team in the first place. Since they have become members of your team, you need to make sure that each of them has an opportunity to add his or her thoughts to discussions.

Conflict Solving

Disagreements are natural and, in fact, heated debate should be encouraged. 4 Consequently, there should be rules on how lengthy disagreements should be handled. For example, team meetings may not be the most appropriate place for a dispute that involves only two people, so “under-the-table” method may be effective.

Leadership

5 A good organizer should be able to play to individuals’ strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses. He must be skilled in motivating people, sharing responsibility and providing constructive feedback on how the tasks went. Successful team working is marked by how confidently each of its members completes his or her assigned tasks with a sense of achievement and pride.

A.Measuring Progress against Goals.

B.Common Goals with Challenging Target.

C.Most high-performing teams are well organized.

D.This is not only discouraging, it also makes no sense.

E.A team made up only of “yes men” can make disastrous decisions.

F.Choose a role on the team that is best suited to your particular strengths.

G.Team members must be able to express their opinions freely without fear of being criticized.
