Everyday we go to school and listen to the teacher, and the teacher will ask us some questions. Sometimes, the classmates will ask your opinions of the work of the class. When you are telling others in the class what you have found out about these topics, remember that they must be able to hear what you are saying. You are not taking part in a family conversation or having a chat(閑談)with friends—you are in a slightly unnatural situation where a large group of people will remain silent, waiting to hear what you have to say. You must speak so that they can hear you—loudly enough and clearly enough but without trying to shout of appearing to force yourself.
Remember, too, that it is the same if you are called to an interview whether it is with a professor of your school or a government official who might meet you. The person you are seeing will try to put you at your ease(輕松)but the situation is somewhat(一點(diǎn)兒)different from that of an ordinary conversation. You must take special care that you can be heard.

A. You don’t track your progress
B. You don’t have a plan to reach your goal
C. Your goal is too difficult and not realistic
D. You don’t take action
E. Your goal is too general or too vague (不明確的)
F. You are not committed to your goal
How often do you set your goal and then fail to achieve it? Do you ever reflect on the reasons why you didn’t achieve your goal? There are a number of mistakes that people make when they set their goals at the start of the year. If one of these mistakes is made, then before even starting you are setting yourself up to fail. There are 5 key goal-setting mistakes that you need to avoid in 2013.
1.__________
If you have done any kind of goal-setting before, you’re bound to come across the SMART technique of goal-setting. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. If your goal is not specific and it is ambiguous in some way, how will you know when you have actually achieved your goal? How do you actually know if you’re heading in the right direction? You should be able to measure your goals and track your progress. If you can’t, then it’s probably not clear.
2.__________
The SMART principle once again comes into play here. All too often people set themselves goals that are far too stretching. When the goal is beyond reachable, negative thoughts enter the mind and disbelief kicks in. This is the opposite of what a good structured goal should do. Ensure your goal is achievable and realistic. Set small targets along the way so you can track your progress. If you feel you are falling behind, reset your goal to something that you can reach.
3. __________
Many people set certain goals in life because they feel they have to. However, on many occasions these are not the goals that the individual is actually passionate about. The goals set are not associated with their values nor are their own goals --- the goals are those that their parents or society wants them to have. If you are not fully committed to your goal upfront, then you’re doomed from the start. You will lack the motivation and desire to actually achieve the goal.
4._________
If your goal is to start an online business, that’s fantastic. However, how are you actually going to achieve it? You need to map your way towards your goal and with as much clarity as you can. Sometimes clarity can be cloudy as you may have a lack of knowledge or skill in what it is that you want to achieve. However, you can start to map the things that you can do to help you learn and grow and progress to where it is that you want to go. Besides, breaking your goals into smaller steps is essential for helping you track your progress and ensure that your goals are realistic and attainable.
5.__________
Without taking action you won’t get anywhere. Taking action is the most important part of any goal. Even if you take action and you find you’re not getting anywhere, you can learn from your experience. Taking action not only progresses you towards your goals, but it helps you learn from your mistakes. They are the keys to reaching your goals in 2013.

You’ve heard the saying: if you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there. Thousands of successful people attribute most of their success to goal setting. Knowing this, why don’t the majority of people set goals?
Goal setting starts within you. You have to believe it’s possible to do a thing before you will have a strong desire to write it down on paper and take steps to make it happen.
How do you possibly bring yourself to believe in your own success? After all, so many of you have been at this success thing for a while and it still hasn’t happened to you. Companies that you believed in and worked hard for having failed, your family and friends are waiting for you to “be realistic”, and life just keeps giving you one blow after another. But there is a small fire burning inside of you. You keep at it because all you know is you can’t continue to get up every morning, go to work for someone else and allow them to determine how much you’re worth each week which is far below your true value.
So where do you go from here? Where do you start today? The road to inner belief in your success begins with you telling yourself every day, throughout the day, that you can do what you set out to do, you can have what you set out to get, and you can be that successful person you know that lives inside you. Yes, obstacles will come, doubters will be around, but don’t you be one of them.
Treat yourself like the person you love and care about most. If you had children who had a paper route and they wanted to accomplish a goal but they kept running into obstacles, what would happen? They would soon become discouraged with so many people telling them no. I’m not interested in what you have to offer. What would you say to your child? I’m sure it won’t be the same thing you’ve been saying to yourself. Turn your words around. Speak those same words of encouragement you would speak to your discouraged child, to yourself, If you would never put a loved one down, especially when they are feeling discouraged why would you do that to yourself? You have the power within to stop it right now and turn it around.
Be committed(表示出明確意圖的)from this point forward, to speak words of encouragement to yourself. The mind is an amazing thing. You can convince yourself of anything over time. If you repeatedly tell yourself every day, throughout the day, how successful you are, how capable you are, you will not only start to believe it, you will start to live it.
1.What does the author mean by saying “Turn your words around?”
A.You should speak words of encouragement to your discouraged child.
B.You shouldn’t put a loved one down.
C.You should encourage yourself.
D.You should change the subject of the conversation.

A.Thousands of successful people owe most of their success to goal setting.
B.The majority of people set goals in order to succeed.
C.We can bring ourselves to believe in our own success.
D.We should say words of encouragement to ourselves.
3.According to the author, how should you treat yourself?
A.Treat yourself like an innocent child.
B.Treat yourself like a hero who can do everything.
C.Treat yourself like a fool who can’t achieve anything.
D.Treat yourself like the person you care and love most.
4.In the eyes of the author, is what you should do to set a goal.
A.being ambitious to do whatever you like to do.
B.telling yourself time and again that you can do it
C.treating yourself like the person you love and care about most

If you take it for granted that to study in university is the same as at middle school and high school, then you will be in for a surprise.
A change of attitude is involved in many ways when you go up to university. Although the process has been going on since you went to middle school, the biggest change is going to take place. Now, instead of taking several subjects, you have chosen one major subject because you find it interesting and worth exploring further. The choice was yours. You also have before you the goal of getting a degree. The degree, and the stages you have to pass through to achieve it, give you motivation, even though it may become weak from time to time, and not all parts of the course will be exciting; a sure way to lose interest is to do too little work. It is a law of diminishing returns---the less work you do, the less interest you will have and the more bored you will become. So regular work is needed to keep your interest as well as keep pace with new work.
Another change is in the relationship with those who teach you. This may well have changed during middle school and high school, but now the whole context is different. You are no longer forced to stay in school all day, and you organize your own time and place for studying. You are there to study actively rather than to be taught passively. Your teachers may or may not urge you, but they do want you to share their interest in the subject and they want you to succeed.
The teacher works as your coach or trainer. If you were becoming a professional tennis player or musician, you would expect your coach to look out for ways of improving your performance, and to criticize your work all the time; you would be silly to feel fed up about this---in fact you would sack your coach if he just said everything was fine. So if you get work back with a poorer mark than you expected and with various criticisms, don’t feel discouraged by this. If you don’t understand what is wrong and how to improve, then ask your teacher to explain and don’t be satisfied until you do understand.
41. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. You need to study just one subject in university.
B. The desire to get a degree is always strong throughout university days.
C. How hard-working the students are affects their interest in their study.
D. You needn’t be taught by teachers in university.
42. The teachers in university __________.
A. have to urge you to study hard
B. may instruct you how to improve your studies
C. never criticize your work
D. never help you if you fail to understand a difficult problem
43. In university, what you can do includes___________.
a. going shopping in the evening b. organizing your class time
c. doing homework in your dormitory d. staying in school all day
A. abc B. ac C. bd D. acd
44. The underlined word “sack” in the last paragraph probably means __________.
A. disbelieve B. like C. fire D. thank
45. The main idea of the passage is that _________.
A. students go to university to get a degree
B. going to university brings two major changes
C. students learn how to study in university
D. students learn to understand college life
